Did Maura and Scott relocate to LA when she got Y&R? If so, it's a shame they gave up their lives in NYC, though I guess her best chance, probably her only chance, for work, is in LA, whether it be soaps or prime time. Of course, GH will probably be off the air by Sept 2012, so not sure if that would be a good move for her.

No, in interviews, Maura's said she and Scott decided to move to LA after ATWT was canceled. That's where the work is. I guess she considered trying to fly out for auditions, but talking with Lesli Kay convinced her it would be too hard with her small children.

Maura would be good on one of the crime procedurals - she reminds me of Marg Helgenberger in some ways anyway.

The initial sex with Jack was to get Diane in the door at Jabot.

The rest of their affair she had genuine feelings for him & she cheated on Andy BECAUSE she still had feelings for Jack (despite loving Andy too) so nobody is "throwing out segments of her history because it was long ago".

Also the difference between Diane then & Maura's Diane is that Diane (outside of that one initial instance) only used sex as a last resort. Not so much with Maura's Diane.

I'll be totally honest here and tell you that for me, Maura's Diane doesn't come across as savvy and intelligent because of her voice, looks, and pattern of speech (the blonde hair doens't help). Alex Donnely had a voice and pattern of speech that reminds one of an anchorwoman, she spoke in a way that made you KNOW she wasn't dumb in any way. I do think Maura is wickedly talented, but again, not quite right for this role. Susan Walters was FINE as Diane as well, the way she spoke and carried herself was believeable.

She was fine because she was flat out imitating Alex Donnelly, plain and simple. It was a pretty damn good imitation though, as she made her voice even seem eerily similar to Donnelly's.

To Maura's credit, she didn't try to imitate anybody- she simply put her own stamp on the role.

And that's what I want. I want someone to imitate Donnely. I'm of the opinion that you only put your own stamp on a role if you originate it.

To me Walters always seemed more like an angry cheerleader than Alex Donnelly.

Walters was to Donnelly what Brenda Epperson was to Eileen Davidson.

I liked Walters as Diane.Ive seen her get hate from the online community simply bc she wasnt Donely but I thought she did just fine and was beleviable as Diane. Id rather they had brought her back considering she played Diane earlier last year

I agree. Walters was great in the role. I was always surprised she didn't get snagged up elsewhere. Obviously, in most cases, the original is best. But Walters >West.

And PLEASE, don't ever begin another post with Brenda Epperson being "boring" as Ashley. Epperson was luminous, talented, beautiful, mesmerizing- she was anything but boring. She will always be THE definitive Ashley for me. I'd take her back over Davidson in a nanosecond.
