Right, and I can't fully blame them (especially the actors who were still relatively new to the soap.) You have so much to focus on and it takes so much of your own time, why WOULD you be aware of what was happening to the other characters and storylines (and certainly much of the cast probably would have no idea that, say, Carla started off on the show as one of the key players.)
By all reports with the troubled history of Loving (even the initial history--the plan for it to be a co-creation with novelist, James at 15 and AMC uber fan Dan Wakefield, who then backed down leaving Nixon to do the initial bible, then at the last minute becoming a Marland collaboration, etc) Nixon was keen to bring Joe Stuart on as EP. We can question that choice, but I think she saw him as a man who knew how to run a successful soap. I don't think Nixon had much say with the hiring of Rauch (on the Museum of TV and Radio 20th anniversary of OLTL presentation that briefly was on as a video file on Agnes Nixon's website, she flat out says that she no longer has ANY control over OLTL and can't talk--when asked--about its recent state. We know from the 1976 OLTL disertation about how OLTL was written that at the time there was still a clause stating that if OLTL dipped below a certain ratings point, Nixon would take over, and that she was getting calls for suggestions from Russell but that was 10 years+ earlier.)
