One Life to Live Tribute Thread

I have a vague memory of an SOD photo, one of those wacky/cute/outtake photos they did, and Chris McKenna is maybe at a locker and holding a Valentine of Dorian. This was probably Valentine's 1994. Realistically there was no way they could have done that story with Chris' Joey and Dorian, but I wonder if they were thinking of it.

I wish they'd brought him back as Joey for the end of the show and had him end up with Dorian, rather than the odd choice to keep Joey the same age for 10 years and cast immature looking actors in the part which somehow led us to a world where Dorian had had a passionate affair with a Nickelodeon host.

Thanks for this treasure @MissPalmer and thank you to @Vee for the tag.

I know that one tiny fragment with Viki and Victor was around but I had never seen the rest. I sure as hell had never seen Jim Storm as Larry!

I'd seen that one fragment without sound, as I think most of us have. Clearly someone recorded that off a TV at the Paley Center - I think it's one of their episodes.

That makes sense.

Who was the nurse? Was it a character we knew?

Pretty sure it's Niki Flacks as the first "Karen (Martin) Wolek," a scheming nurse who got involved with Larry IIRC, married him and was swiftly dispatched after a while. She was a spoiler for him and Meredith.

Yes! In the description of the video in Youtube, it says it's Niki Flacks!! I wish one day we can see this complete episode from Paley. These scenes come from someone who taped the complete episode with a phone.

Clips from 1968!!!!! Episode 76
(28th October 1968)

Omg thanks for posting! That's my Victoria, my Victor, my Larry, and my Vinnie, talking about my Meredith! (I started watching OLTL about 8 months after this aired). But it's not my Jim Craig! I don't if I ever saw this one before.

I loved Larry and Meredith together.

Cool to see Jim Storm's Larry there! in a sense, Jim Storm and his brother Michael Storm literally felt like the same Larry to my 11-year-old self with no soap magazines or internet to learn about the recasting. I saw them both on broadcast TV, thinking they were the same actor. Michael Storm is of course the Larry I really know but I hadn't realized that he was originally portrayed by the brother until many years later, probably reading it on "amcpages.com"(soapcentral) or on one of the Pine Valley fan sites. I don't think I was watching on whatever day Larry was recast if they had one of those "the part of Larry Wolek will now be played by... " voiceovers -- I don't remember that.

I didn't recognize the nurse, yet she seems familiar. Thanks for the youtube's description explaining that she's character Karen Martin, I name I don't remember. But then reading what @Vee said "the first "Karen (Martin) Wolek," a scheming nurse who got involved with Larry IIRC, married him and was swiftly dispatched after a while. She was a spoiler for him and Meredith." So then I found something about her on the Larry Wolek wikipedia page.

This explains SO MUCH. I of course saw the "1970s Karen" (with both castings including Judith Light) but I probably thought she was the original (maybe?) . . . Perhaps I was confused by there being two Karens marrying Larry!!! One the other hand, I strongly remember Karen and Jenny Wolek's arrival in mid-1970s as sisters who were COUSINS of the brothers Larry and Vince (distant cousins, thus making Karen's romance with Larry accepted).

It's likely that I had completely forgotten that
the * other * Karen character (Karen Martin from this video) ever existed, although I followed the OG Meredith/Larry romance closely.

I am so glad I happened to pop by this thread today to see that 1968 clip!

Most of what's discussed on this thread in recent months has been 1990s OLTL which I never saw. I saw things occasionally when visiting a friend, but very rarely. In the late 1990s and in the 2000s I read stuff on soapcentral but didn't pay close attention. I may have seen some episodes on soapnet, so I had some idea of what was going on but I couldn't relate to a lot of it. It was so different from the soap I remembered. Seriously I often have no idea what's being discussed on this thread when it's about the 1990s, even though I know most of the names.

I was watching live the day Viki turned into Tommy, screamed at Dorian that she was an ugly bitch and threw her down the stairs. I was maybe 13 and I had no idea what was happening, because at that time I had no idea Viki had ever had multiple personalities. I thought she had just totally lost her mind and I was terrified. But I was not surprised (or disappointed) by the Victor reveal.

Fascinating because I was 11 or 12 years old watching live when Viki started splitting into Niki Smith, going out and having fun and flirting with Vinnie. My older sister explained that Viki had a "split personality" and the little that was known at that time -- there was no internet for me to research on. This was when there was a storyline about Victor disapproving of the Larry/Meredith romance, and somehow that stressed out Viki? That didn't make sense but that's why they said Viki was stressed, that her father was so controlling of Meredith, or something like that, and then also Meredith got sick. Lots of family stress impacting Viki who loved her sister Meredith. Or at least that's how my sister understood it, that Viki was worried about Merry (Meredith). I didn't know anything about multiple personalities (and it wasn't "multiple" then, only one alter on the show at that time) . . . so I just accepted the explanations given by the dialogue and my sister.

And in the 1970s I knew that Nancy Pinkerton's Dorian let Victor die. It was clear she was guilty of causing his death. I was at a friend's house watching the day that aired.

In the late 1990s or early 2000s, I tried to learn what I had missed. I was stunned to learn of the whole Victor molesting Viki backstory and that Viki had multiple alters. That seemed so very far away from the Ernest Graves' portrayal of Victor Lord that I remembered. I just couldn't accept it. Maybe that's why I didn't dive back into watching OLTL?

Robin Strasser has credited herself for going to Erika, talking about the roots of DID lying in abuse, and then claims they went as a duo to Michael Malone to pitch the Victor reveal, which Robin later regretted because she felt it was best that Dorian be the one who killed Victor. Robin was back in early '93, so assuming she's accurate and not getting her facts fuzzy (which can happen) the timeline would be then.

This is fascinating! And I just found that Strasser interview from TVGuide quoted in the "seed of doubt" section of the Victor Lord wikipedia page

Very very interesting!

Edit to add, I appreciated reading what Robin said there. The whole Victor/Viki retcon makes more sense to me now.
