Members danfling
BKuzak, the impregnation of Jessica by her step-brother was extremely "icky" and distasteful. Her father and his mother were married to one another. Does it really matter to you how long the marriage lasted or was to last? I doubt it or that you would want such carrying-ons in your own family. I could be wrong, but I think that, under those circumstances, you would feel objection. And the fact that liquor was involved brings to light the dangers of under-age drinking. That it happened was truly regretful.
Members Khan
It was icky (and IMO, OOC on Jessica's part) but it wasn't the first time something so incestuous, or even semi-incestuous, had occurred on a soap opera. Not by a long shot.
Members Vee
I personally chose to believe - since, given the ages of Matthew, Dani and both Matthew and Natalie's sons, the new show seemed to have contracted the timeline a bit to be a year or two after it had left ABC - that Jessica had left town to be with Brody Lovett, and that they had likely married and were raising her kids. (I also chose to believe Ryder was actually Brody's son, not Robert Ford's.) The finale on ABC had implied a reunion for Jess and Brody, and I always loved them together. Had Jessica ever returned, I don't think she should have done it as another typical heroine. I think Natalie had supplanted her role as Viki's heir and rightly so, with a lot more fire. I would've liked to see a plagiarism/falsified journalism story play out with Jessica at the Banner. Edited August 23, 2014 by Vee
Members BKuzak
That would have been fun...Viki grooming Jessica for The Banner. It would have been a full circle since the show started with Victor grooming Viki for The Banner. I am glad that they did bring Banner business back onto the show since it was so lacked in the show last several years. The Banner had been the centeral focuss on the show for decades but then around the early 2000's they fazed it out. Occasionally they would have a scene of Viiki working there but then even that became very rare. I remember in the late 1990's, a lot of the stories came out of The Banner. Kevin worked there with Cassie. Mel Hayes worked there. Later Rae Cummings worked there. Viki and Ben sent ads to each other in The Banner when they first met. I was sad that they lacked storylines in the last years. Edited August 24, 2014 by BKuzak
Members amybrickwallace
Plus, they could have done a story with The Banner being in trouble like the rest of the newspapers in real life - and doing what they had to do to stay afloat. I'd take a story like that any day over DID.
Members Vee
Well, they did do that story on the new show. And it started out very good IMO, but they kind of dropped it - Clint bailed Viki out on the money she had lost in a hedge fund while trying to save the paper, and then the problem seemed to dissipate, with the exception of Viki dumping him for violating her trust. Of course, that was only a few episodes before the end. They might well have just been resting the storyline and then brought it back in again had they returned - Jeffrey was still the very busy star reporter at the Banner, Destiny worked nights there as well, and Dorian had sent the LPD after Viki on suspicion of insider trading. But it didn't go as deep as it could have at the time. They should've had Viki actually lose the money, go bankrupt, have to put Llanfair up on the docket as she had planned, and then get busted for Dorian's frame-up. Members MissLlanviewPA
That episode, Babes Behind Bars, is actually from 2002. Trading Places is from 2001. Jessica switched places with Jen in that episode. I truly wish Erin was more remembered as a kid lifer in soap history. She may not have been the best, but she was there for many years, and deserves to be remembered as much as any other kid lifer on soaps.
Members MissLlanviewPA
It was Atlantic City. To this day, that scene has never been posted to YouTube, so I have yet to actually see it. But I can't help but wonder if any onscreen chemistry they had back in 1994 had to do with the fact that they were secretly attracted to each other in real life, despite the fact that they were both married to other people (Kassie to her first husband, and James to his second wife--Misty Rowe, of Hee Haw fame--who is also the mother of his daughter, Dreama, who was only around two years old when that scene would have aired). I always suspected that that love scene, despite never having seen it myself before, was hotter than it otherwise might have been because James and Kassie were giving into their real life feelings without "technically" cheating on their RL spouses as it was Max & Blair giving into each other onscreen. I'll never forget an interview the two of them did in SOD a few months before OLTL left ABC. They talked about this scene, and how when Phil Carey saw it on the monitors at the studio, he claimed it was straight up pornography. It makes me wonder if that's when their spouses finally decided their marriages were over (okay, it's not funny, but still). I know it's none of my business, but I've always been curious as to when and how that relationship actually began. Add into the fact that Kassie grew up in Kentucky loving country music, and it's entirely possible she grew up watching Misty on Hee Haw, having no idea she would wind up marrying her husband. Also, when she first performed at the Grand Ole Opry at 18, one of the songs she performed was Loretta Lynn's "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man." Okay, okay, I'll stop now. But seriously, as fans of both of them as actors, the story of their relationship has always fascinated me. Members BKuzak
I still remember how hot that scene was. They were just tearing the room apart....going at it. Maybe when the camera's stopped rolling, they just "finished up." I'm suprised youtube hasn't aired it. I beleive they have the GH Carly Jason sex sessoins of ther 1990's and those were very hot. Maybe just nobody posted it yet.
Members MissLlanviewPA
Yeah, I think it's just that nobody has posted it yet. There's a lot of Max & Gabrielle that hasn't been posted yet either--stuff I remember from the old Fiona Fest site, even. The scene I want to see again the most is from 1990, when he was recovering from being shot by the Wymans (the Lord Love the Children couple) after they tried to kidnap Al, and as he is finally ready to love and be with Gabrielle, tells her while she's visiting him that she's never looked more beautiful than at that very moment. And of course, Gabrielle, who promised God she would become a nun if He saved Max, is trying all she can to resist him. Well, that, and the love scene from 1988 while Steve was in a coma (and Gabrielle was still married to him). Members amybrickwallace
Speaking of Steve Holden, do you all think he should have stayed on rather than being killed off? Do you think he was a viable enough character to stay on and was he played by a decent actor?
Members MissLlanviewPA
I don't see why not. From what I've seen of Steve, he would have been a good counterpoint to his wilder older brother, and if he and Brenda had stayed together and remained married (and still had Steven), I could see them being a good counterpoint to Max & Gabrielle--a more stable, potential tentpole couple compared to the latter's more volatile relationship (although, ironically enough, I think M&G, given how much more mature and healthy their relationship, even though it was just platonic, was by 2003, I think they would made a good tentpole couple themselves, along with their best friends Cord & Tina). Also, I am always amazed at how Russ Anderson and James DePaiva look SO much like RL brothers. VERY good casting there. Members amybrickwallace
Yes, they really did look like brothers!
Members BKuzak
Speaking of Tina, I think it would have been nice if they kept Karen Witter until they could lure Andrea back. I thought she was a really good Tina. I don't think she could have pulled off the whole "Sleeping wityh my brother" storyline but i thought they really matured Tina when she was playing her. But she was still Tina, being torn between Cord and Cain and maiking mistakes because of it. I actually liked her and Cain. Don't even get me started on her replacement, Krista. She almost ruined Tina. I'm sure she was just playing the role the way the producers wanted her to but she played her as such a bubble head. She had maybe a few rare good scenes but mostly she was useless. and the writers knew that because they bascially just fazed her out.
Members cassadine1991
Did Witter quit?? I wonder if they wanted to make Krista's Tina like GL's Mindy Lewis. I remember hearing that if Evans didn't have that stalker she would've stayed on OLTL I do wonder about those rumors of bringing Tina back in 2003
