AMC and OLTL Canceled!

Former Soap Producer of cancelled soap speaks out:

http://michaelfairma..._medium=twitter

Who could this be? I'm thinking Chris Goutman. He was at AW & ATWT until they were cancelled. He's all I can think of...

Thinking it's him, I did rolleyes.gif a little bit at some of the things he said. But I did love this quote

Do you think the genre has evolved itself enough to do certain things to save themselves?

PRODUCER: One of the things that still frustrated me in this genre is the inability to evolve in terms of staff, and people and writers. For example: I think some of GH's darkest hours were the Megan McTavish years, and I think some of GL's were the Megan McTavish years, and I think some of AMC darkest hours were the Megan McTavish years. Then I read somewhere that Brian Frons was courting Megan McTavish to come back, and I thought, really?

What a [!@#$%^&*] coward! If you don't have the courage to speak using your actual identity, don't speak at all!

Every one needs to stop the negative press. It has bothered me for years. I have spoken my mind about it before to everyone at my former show. I had such frustration with the soap press about the constant criticism of the genre.

Why should the soap press (or the soap fans, for that matter) stop being critical of the genre just b/c they're only four soaps left and the soaps are their proverbial bread and butter? If the criticism is "constant," maybe that's b/c the product TPTB keep handing us does not warrant praise. Just a thought.

They put those actors on Dancing with the Stars, they did fan events, and they brought in movie stars, and that whole list of things that fans said they wanted and clamored for… they did them, and in the end it did not make a hill of a difference.

Who said we were clamoring for those things? All we ever really clamored for, by my estimation, was good story. If TPTB think we wanted all that other [!@#$%^&*], then they must've received some bad information.

I have always thought that for soaps, because the way we live our lives now, an hour a day is just too much.

Probably. But that's presuming viewers sit down and watch the entire hour, including commercials, when we all know that isn't the case anymore. Thanks to DVR's and such, people can skip them, along with other things; and we know that the average episode of a soap runs no more than 40 minutes, if that. So, IOW, here's yet one more person from the industry who keeps saying "Soaps are dying, b/c the world is changing!," and yet is ignorant at the same time about how it's changing.

I'm so tired of hearing how knowing what I want to see and asking for it makes me a bad viewer. Kiss my ass.

That McTavish quote can probably apply to the f!cker who said it, too. He lost me when he told me told me that I was clamoring for Rebecca Budig to do Skating with the Stars. No I wasn't.

I haven't the time to properly respond to that interview, but it's coming. Trust me.

McTavish's GH was nothing compared to Guza/Pratt or Guza alone - whoever did the interview probably just didn't want to badmouth a current headwriter.

Where is all this "constant criticism"? The soap press has become far more sycophantic in the last ten years. Where did it get soaps? Right down the craphole.

Did anyone beg for movie stars to come to Soaps? I've never really cared to see the two mixed.

McTavish was at GH from 2001-2002, give or take. Her run wasn't good but was ten times anything since.

I laughed at the "begged for movie stars" line. That's an example, yet another example, of how out of touch the industry is. THEY wanted movie stars, because THEY are ashamed of soaps. Viewers did not. That's why the supposed "movie star" Franco brought a ratings drop to GH.

In the 90's? I know she was behind the Sonny & Alexis sleeping together which IMO damaged the character of Alexis ALOT

That had been built up for years.
