Hmmm... should I give JPL credit for crafting a cleverly nebulous suck-up/sarcasm line? It would be easier to buy if even one person had thrown out the sarcasm possibility. Maybe his "joke" just failed.

*BTW, why can't he write his own emails, and was that even an email from the REAL FF or just one of JPL's hopelessly devoted? I'm getting to the point where I won't believe any statement short of a Skype'd one.

Speculation at this point built on some pretty strong theories. The fact that Anne Sweeney apparently wanted GH gone as well, the fact that GH totally does not fit with the dynamic ABC Daytime is going forward with, its ratings are only a hair better than OLTL and AMC (and most likely will tank without their soap lead-ins).... and Errol said its unofficially official. Unless The Chew and The Revolution totally tank I don't see GH lasting beyond 2012.

When I first read it, I thought he had to have meant it sarcastically... because it was just a little too glowing of praise.

But one of the most important things a good publicist will coach celebrities on is to be careful about (or altogether refrain from) using sarcasm in any interview that's meant for publication... because sarcasm is really difficult to translate to print (sans emoticons!). If you are sarcastic, you're at least to advise the interviewer to be certain to specify that it was intended as such. Otherwise, they're sort of free to print it in an open context.

It's probably just something JPL wasn't thinking about at the time.

Err, Frons can't tell Oprah what to do lol. Oprah is a CBS Television Distribution show that is syndicated.

She decided to end her show as the 25th season coincides with the end of her contract with CBS Television Distribution.

It is my suspicion that she always planned it that way.

Season 25 would be the last, she would re-up with CTD until then and after that she would end and start something new (OWN)

Though it is by vast majority airing on ABC affiliates, Oprah's show is syndicated. It's actually ABC that took the news poorly about Oprah ending her series: Most of those affiliates depend on Oprah as a lead-in for their afternoon/evening news casts. As I understood it, the affiliates were lobbying the network to expand the Daytime line-up by an hour with something strong to replace Oprah (which is probably where "The View moving to after GH" rumor came from).

ETA: Sorry, Vizion - you and I responded simultaneously! :D

Jamey Giddens and others reported that Sweeney wanted to cancel all three shows. I think like NBC, ABC just wants out of the soap business. Even if she didn't want to cancel them, GH, just like all of the other soaps, is going to be gone in the next 1 to 5 years.

I must have been the only one who read JPL's comments as sarcasm. No one would say something like that four days after just learning they'd be losing their job in a few months. Also, I spoke with Farah Fath a few weeks ago about her "finger" comments from last year. We both joked about it and laughed it off. It wasn't meant to be serious.

For the record, I'm down with any soap star going absolutely bonkers and calling b!tches out. Working in television -- working in daytime, especially -- has to drive ANYONE out of their mind. And that's not a bad thing.

Robin Strasser/Victoria Rowell reality show? YES please.

Random, but why is SOD's new logo an ampersand?

I don't know...I don't think he was being sarcastic based on this SOD interview:

John-Paul Lavoisier Clarifies Statement

By SOD • Posted: Apr 18, 2011

Quotes posted earlier today from John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) to sod.com about OLTL/ABC's cancellation and ABC chief Brian Frons has set off a firestorm on the Internet. Here, the actor clarifies his statement: "The point wasn't to make anybody mad or anybody happy. The point was for everyone to interpret my comments in any way they want to, at least the last part of the quote. If you're not happy with my quote, think of it sarcastically. And if you're happy with my quote, take it literally. It's a neutral quote that can be taken in either way. But the rest of the quote can be taken literally. Farah [Fath, Gigi] and I are going to L.A. We are going to pound the pavement and I was very blessed to have worked on the final nine years and seven months of a long-running, great show that has a great family. As an actor, it gave me fun stuff to do. The first day that Brian Frons became president of ABC, he could have fired me right off the bat. I spent every day working for ABC under the possibility that Brian could have fired me. So I do thank Brian for not firing me during his reign. I thank him every day that he never made the decision to fire me and I do thank him for bringing on Farah. But everyone needs to understand that you can't bite the hand that feeds you. There is a lot of world left to live and a lot of jobs to still be had and you never know who's going to become the president of what. I don't want to burn future bridges with the professional people who will someday hire me for other jobs."

Classy lady that should definitely be approached to be somehow involved in AMC's swansong.

Not saying you are wrong Errol, I am sure she played it up huge that they weren't meant to be taken seriously She may have been saying the comments sarcastically, but she had to have known the controversy she'd set off with them. And she kept fanning the flames from what I recall. She knew what she was doing.

    • We're getting an actual personality and flaws for Ashley... so it's a good start.  I'm guessing that Derek is her first serious relationship and I think she's falling out of love with Derek.. just hasn't accepted that realization as of yet. I agree that the show was diving headfirst into an Andre/Ashley pairing in the first handful of episodes, but they backed off of it and I have two theories: - Andre/Dani had a rapport/chemistry.  Probably more so than MVJ or the writers anticipated so the show is probably exploring that avenue. - Based on the character template that Ashley was created from... having her stray with Andre would have been out of character and caused the audience to hate her so the show is now weaving in reasons why Ashley might be looking Andres way (i.e. grass is greener on the other side, inexperience, Derek being too basic/vanilla).
    • Has anyone watched the Texas reunion interview? I haven't gotten to it yet although it'll probably mean more to the people who watched the show at the time.
    • Or, they could have recast the role and written the character better. Maybe too much to expect, but it was a choice. Surprised they never did. Was Raines ever popular? Wait. Wait. WAIT! THEY RETCONNED THAT AGAIN????
    • Hope you're feeling better @slick jones Came across another entry for House Jameson.  Unknown role on Guiding Light, 1958.
    • Greece, France and Luxembourg were my three clear favourites. I think Greece especially had a phenomenal staging. So beautiful. And Klavdia sang fantastic.

France also had beautiful staging and Louane sang her heart out. Finally Luxembourg, who had a vastly improved stage show compared to the national final, and I loved the nod to France Gall on the little tv screen in the dollhouse.
    • LOL - literally just added an edit to my post, because as I'm watching live right now, Dahlia is swimming in the pool alone and there is Marcus.  So annoying. And Phillip just revealed himself to Rick. I have to stop watching now, but curious to see how those interactions go!
    •   LOL.  I realized this week's Lope montage also omitted the Paris remote Lope scenes with Kim Matula. I mean, they repeat stuff over and over and over. I have unintentionally memorized B&B scenes that I barely watched --- because it was repeated in dialogue and immediate flashbacks in following episodes over and over and over.  Yet somehow Brad thinks viewers (even casual views like myself) wouldn't notice the glaring omissions in the montage?  or as dragonflies said, the montage using Lope scenes that happened during the Steam marriage?
    • Well, you wont be happy at all because I think Marcus of all people shows up..you know they have to have a scene were Dahlia is swimming and Marcus joins her..despite the fact that he is a decade older then her. You could tell they were trying to make them the next big thing but then, just dropped it.  The whole wedding was also one of the reason McLaibey was so short term.
    • I would have bought it if Ed/Rick/Michelle were all there, but 1) Ed said he couldn't go because he had to work, to which even someone highlighted that he's chief of staff and could easily go if he wanted; 2) Michelle got on the plane with Rick to go, but J showed up and the Spaulding's kicked him off because why would they want another random teenager to go, so Michelle ran off the plane after him and Rick just let her go (haha, it was kind of dumb); and 3) Rick and A-M have barely said 2 words to each other in the 15 months I've been watching so far, so it was weird he's now just by himself with the Spauldings/Coopers.   But I know now why they're doing this, Rick is clearly there because Phillip has shown up. Very plot-driven, but at least I’m getting old flashbacks of Rick/Phillip during this.  Slight correction - Ed never showed up on the plane, just Rick and Michelle.  Ed had already made the decision he wasn't going. Once 'Slutchelle' (haha!) ran off, I thought it was so weird that Rick either didn't run off after her, or didn't call from the plane to tell Ed. It was only when Blake called Rick, who happened to be with Ed at the hospital, that he happened to tell Ed, in midair, "oh hey, you may want to go find Michelle, she ran off" hahaha. Yeah, I get that being a location shoot, they had to minimize the number of people, but to have Dahlia there over Bridget still irks me. I get it, at this point, Bridget wouldn't have any connections to any of the people there outside of Lucy, just still hurts. ETA: Ugh, and now Marcus shows up!
