Is ABC Preparing to Cancel AMC and OLTL?

She never called it the biggest train wreck.

]But I just had to see the start of the Jesse and Angie story unfold, just to gauge exactly how much of a trainwreck it is going to be. And maybe I am grading on one hell of a curve, because compared to the rest of the show it was some downright Emmy-worthy writing

I really don't get it--I feel like I'm alone in this LOL. With ALL of the AWFUL detrimental storylines AMC has had, how can this Angie/Jesse story be refered to as the biggest trainwreck in AMC history?

ITA Eric. I think as long as they continue to play all the emotional beats, it could be a winner. They've done far worse storylines than this. I still have nightmares about Libidizone, Madden buried alive, the unabortion, and poison pancakes and cringe at anything Fusion- or Cambias-related, and am still waiting for someone to explain Proteus to me.

Shapiro at least *largely* creatively left the shows alone--she didn't become EP of every single show. Instead she focused more on Shop the Soaps, lol. I wonder how close Behr actually came to getting the job when Frons got it. Sigh

In 98, Shapiro unleashed JFP on OLTL and cheerled her total destruction there for two years.

Shapiro then sided with Guza over Riche in their war for control and promoted JFP from OLTL to GH to assist Guza's destruction of GH.

Lucci still had a lot of power left in those days, so she tried protect AMC from Shapiro's worst crap.

She never called it the biggest train wreck.

This stuff reminds me of a McTavish quote in Soap Opera Weekly, circa 1999, that I will never, EVER, forget:

"I've always wanted to do a train wreck!"

My immediate thoughts were, "Honey, you've already been doing train wrecks better than anyone else in the industry!"

Lucci mentioned on HSN that her and Shapiro are good friends to this day. She was telling the story of how she won the Emmy and the following Monday, Angela gave her a watch with a note saying, "It's about time." Lucci was selling a similar piece on HSN.

In the late 90s the WWE was the best soap on TV. My favorite story was when Vince McMahaon and his trashy girlfriend Trish were drugging Linda McMahon so they could carry on an affair, but then when Vince turned on Trish and sided with his evil daughter Stephanie, Trish secretly stopped giving Linda the drugs. The wedding you talk of was a classic. They asked if anyone knew why the wedding of Stephanie and Edge could not take place and HHH barges in with proof he is in fact married to Stephanie. You gotta love it.

No, not Edge ... Andrew Martin, a.k.a 'TEST'! The best for me was whenever Stephanie McMahon got to slap the complete and utter sh!t out of someone. Especially the moment where she called Linda McMahon, her mother, a manipulative conniving bitch, then bam, Linda dies. (Exaggeration, of course) LoL. She was and is the best slapper in the history of mankind!

Those were the days when ABCD was called the girls club. All 3 EPs were women and the shows except for GH were written by women. Guza was the lone male voice back then. While Howarth, Benard, Geary, etc were big Shapiro pets, females like Lucci, Marcil and Dano had big pull with her, too.

And yet the girls club leveled some real destruction too.

Oh god, what's this? a WWE fan  I blame my gal pal for getting me into that. I remember how pissed I was that Jericho and Trish ended in classic soap twist w/ Christian at WrestleMania. Although I gotta say even now WWE is starting to go back to that. And how awesome is that jerk The Miz  I wanna kill him and hug him at the same time.

Vince McMahon should run ABC daytime, I'm not joking either.

Some of the best soap I've ever seen was on WWE.

I don't really watch anymore because they got away from the schmucky stories that I loved so. I remember there was another story where The Big Show's father died, but at the funeral someone stole his father's body. He was out for revenge but then the villain forced his mother to reveal the truth: he was never the real father! I think the villain actually was. I think the last story I watched when they had a whodunit and I forget what happened, someone ran someone down in a hit and run, and I think Stone Cold got framed for the crime. He set out to prove himself innocent.

Oh child, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED! Stone Cold Steve Austin got run over by a car. Through investiagtion we learn someone with blonde hair did the crime. Getting proof, we find out Rakesi did the deed. BUT WAIT! HE WAS PAID! Only after Stone Cold puts Raskesi out of commission, does the real culprit, who stood to benefit the most from Stone Cold being out of commission, admit to everything. That person? TRIPLE H! DUN DUN DUN!

Stephanie slapping her poor, sweet, matriarchal mother, Linda! Too bad the quality ain't all that great. :(

You're not alone. I can easily name stories that were far bigger trainwrecks: unabortion, Doc-in-a-Box, Satin Slayer, Ryan's fake death, etc... So much of the hatred of this story seems to be based on future beliefs of what people are expecting to happen. That Darnell's acting will turn cartoonish, Jesse will become so focused on the lie that he appears unsympathetic, Angie looks stupid, etc.. (Personally I don't see any of that happening.) This is far from the worst trainwreck on the show but its a standard trainwreck inflicted on characters many think deserve better. Crap writing for Ryan is business as usual. Crap writing for Angie is an affront. JMHO.

I believe AMC and OLTL will go off months apart, not together like the article suggests. Then we'll hear of more cripping budget cuts at GH to accomodate Disney's new very lean daytime budget. GH will stagger to a finale too and Disney suits will have their decades-long wish -> A daytime lineup filled with cheaply produced shows.

Frons is a genius. ;)

He seems pretty sure. Toups, heard anything?

Either way, hopefully ABC will finally make an actual statement about the situation on Monday instead of skirting around the issues.
