Janice Lynde & William Gray Espy make their second week long appearances on Tattletales (1975). They mention they won the last time they were on. Espy is completely different than what I expected. He seems to have a great sense of humor and laughs a lot. The dropping the book question in the first episode was hilarious.

Frankly, I thought pairing Victor and Christine was a mistake even then.  It just didn't seem right for Christine, who always has been independent and self-reliant, to hook up with an alpha male like Victor.

To me, Victor always has been someone who wanted a wife or girlfriend whom he could pet and pamper and spoil.  He had that to one degree or another with Lorie, Julia, DEFINITELY Nikki, Hope, Sabrina and even Ashley, who probably was the most independent mate he'd had up to that point.  If Victor and Christine had become a full-fledged couple, you know it would've imploded the minute Christine put her career as an attorney over Victor's demands.

When I saw them hinting at Victor/Christine, I threw up a little in my mouth.

The man was old enough to be her father-how would she find him attractive on any level? The women who went with Victor were pretty much  either weak or scheming.

And both Victor and Christine could both be extremely annoying so them together would have been too much.

When I watched 1996 in real time and Bill Bell was alluding to Victor/Christine, I was like "Bill Bell what are you thinking? That's your daughter, and she's half EB age."

When I rewatched some of 1995 and 1996, I get why Bill Bell alluded to Victor/Christine. I think Bill Bell original plan was Victor/Nikki/Brad/Ashley quad but since Shari Shattuck did not pass the chemistry tests w/ either EB or Don Diamont, Bill Bell replaced Ashley w/ Christine in the quad. He even dusted off some of the original Victor/Ashley storyline to use w/ Victor/Christine.

Thankfully there was very little physical contact between Victor and Christine. If they had gone past a hug I probably would have lost my lunch.

The mid 90's was also when they introduced Leigh J. McCloskey's Kurt Costner to pair with Shattuck's Ashley....that character turned out to be a nothing burger. They also had Grant Cramer come back as a new character Adam Hunter to pair with her and he disappeared after about 3 episodes.

    • I sometimes wonder if he’s even breathing.
    • I hit the Google Machine, and can't find Alex Alegria's (Tomas) age anywhere. Wow, I really disagree with this. I like that Bill plays against the typical bad guy. I think Maurice Johnson has been just fine -- except for that swaying. I cannot believe someone -- anyone -- on that set didn't give him a note. He should have been called out on that in week one. The swaying and swiveling never stops unless he sits down. I understand the need for product placement and the reason for it. However, it does feel wrong during emotional scenes. Yes, we're talking about the products, but it takes us out of those emotional moments, and GATES shouldn't be happy about that. They need to do better. Maxim said it better than I did. I agree. The writers have absolutely failed Ashley and Derek. I've abused both of them here, but I do place more of the blame on the writing. Compare what A & D have been given with the dialogue Ambyr Michelle is getting as Eva. We're not even in the same universe. Ambyr is getting writing that plays to her (many) strengths. She takes good dialogue and knocks it out of the park. Ashley and Derek are given garbage to play and garbage to say.
    • The Eva / Tomas scenes at the end -- to see a good actress having to play a scene with someone giving her less than nothing -- that was painful.
    • I thought the story had it’s moments, I much preferred the story once Greg was meddling, trying to keep her away from Tom Ryan. I loved them together!   And there was a story they could have developed from this. Laura stopped having a lot of scenes with the ensemble. She's the only one missing during the big finales of seasons 5&6, and I would have been cool to play on that! For one, Laura being a more cutthroat business executive just made sense to me. Also, the point I was trying to make regarding Mary Robeson was that I wish they had focused on a story from her family /background beforehand. You could play the Vin artist from many angles.
    • Nielsen Ratings for this same week 39 years ago May 5-11 1986. North & South Book II mini-series pre-empted a number of ABC shows. What the heck was NBC’s Fast Copy about?

    • I think the arrival of the Spauldings (Alan/Elizabeth/Phillip) caused the erosion of Sara's character on the show since Elizabeth took over Sara's place in the whole Justin/Jackie story.  Sara's brief marriage to another deceptive man sounded like it paled in comparison to the previous deceptive man story that she had played the decade beforehand.. and it was probably done because of the whole Alan/Jackie/Mike/Elizabeth cluster that took off story wise.   I know the show had introduced Brandy, the woman Justin cheated on Jackie with... but I don't believe she lasted more than a year.. and didn't make much of an impression. While the Dobson's were good at writing/juggling multiple characters/stories.. they weren't perfect though they did manage to make use of characters not in the front burner like Sara, Ann, etc. I do know that Sara/Adam looked to be starting up at the end of the Dobson era with a jealous/regretful Barbara looking on.. which played out during the Roger/Holly rape story and Hollys prison story.   I don't know if Marland was as inspired by that story when he took over
    • If you ever make it to the Paley Center in NYC (fka Museum of TV and Radio), in their viewing room, you can watch Days 1/1/73 featuring Denise Alexander as Susan. It’s her last month on the show before switching to GH.
    • Overall I was impressed with this week and fall out from the revealation.  I am looking forward to seeing the Nicole/Dana showdown next week.  I do wonder if June is going to be tied to Hayley.
