So I figured out why I got confused with Lezlie Dalton being a temp replacement for JLB, turns out she did replace her during the winter of 77. I am just not sure when exactly. Honestly would have been odd if it was during Lance and Lorie's honeymoon. JLB was out sick

Just came across a CBS pilot 'Boston and Kilbride', one of several pilots Tom Selleck was cast in before making it with Magnum.

Included in the cast was Jaime Lyn Bauer (as a pilot!)

So Lorie and Jed were re-united!

The show aired in March 79, so maybe one of the temp replacements was because Jaime needed time off to film the show.

That's awesome. The three temps for Lorie that I know of were winter 77 (Lezlie Dalton) when JLB was ill, March - Apr 78 (Victoria Thompson) when JLB had her first baby and Jul - Aug 1980 (Wesley Ann Pfenning) when she had her second baby.

Maybe there was a fourth in 1979 when she did the pilot since pilot season was traditionally in January. She may have need a couple days off.

Maybe Lorie was just offscreen for a couple of weeks or Jamie pretaped some scenes.

I guess it depends on how heavily she was featured in the pilot. It may have only been a few days and she could fit it around her Y&R taping schedule.

Although it aired in March 79, it may have been a leftover from the previous season. I'll do some checking to see.

EDIT

It was in contention for the 79/80 season.

Oh right. Yeah could have been that too. If it was January, Lorie was pretty busy since this was around the time she found out Leslie was pregnant with Lance's baby.

It does sound like it was part of the "third season" or basically "spring season" that was becoming more common back then

I wouldn't mind trying to track the episode down. I wonder if it is floating around online

Here it is. This was called The Chinese Typewriter but is Boston & Kilbride and has JLB in it

Cool find!

Boy that was a slog and I was just skimming.

It must have had a released on the back of Magnum, The pilot was aired 10-11pm Sat night so they obviously added extra footage to pad out the running time.

JLB got to go on location (it was supposed to be Cosat Rica)and had quite a big part.

Funny that she was so magnetic on Y&R but didn't make much of an impression her IMO.

Just proves, like so many other 'soapers' that success in daytime doesn't always translate.

Lol, yeah I skimmed through too. Was pretty awful. Honestly feels like a patchwork of scenes thrown together.

It is interesting how natural and at home Selleck seems here, while Jaime-Lyn seems a bit out of her element.

Thank you so much @BoldRestlessfor uploading the Keesha Jan ’96 clips! I have finally reached 1996 in my chronological viewings, and I had never seen these before.

I have to say that overall this is not a great timeframe of the show, from my perspective… lots of stories I’m not a fan of. But these scenes are really incredible! What great acting and writing.  The plotting was set up so well, because when Liv tells Keesha she’s positive, there are so many layers, and so many things racing through Keesha’s mind.  I was totally engrossed.

The only thing about this story that is not working for me, is that Nathan as played by Nathan Purdee would have never cheated on Liv in such a way!  The only way my brain can process it, is that I am pretending that Nathan as played as Nathan Purdee passed away, and then Liv married some other lesser dude who then cheated on her with Keesha.

Today Nick was giving a massage to Phyllis and wearing a blonde wig and named Sven ? Is it common or are they remembering Sven from years before?

I doubt it…unless one of the writers randomly stumbled upon one of the 1986 scenes with Jill and Sven…I feel those stupid scenes had Morrows handiwork all over it…

That was my criticism at the time. There was no background to the affair. It was a cop out to me. They went from A- E and left out the steps in between.

If anything the story showcased how talented Tonya Lee Williams was! Her work was so overlooked for an Emmy that year.

It's a stereotype in US television.  Massage is associated with Swedish massage and they think all Swedes are named "Sven."

Here is Phyllis doing an accent when giving Danny a massage in 1995:

You're welcome!  I have so many random clips I saved from YouTube over the years, but it's hard figuring out the dates. I'm grateful to the person who posted all those 1996 German episodes and to the person who uploaded those "Who Shot Victor" clips, which are almost complete as far as the Newman family scenes. It makes it easier to figure out the dates. I like to watch in order to, so its kind of an art watching trying to figure out the date without really getting into the clips! I have more from that storyline that are not dated yet. If you want I can upload them in a batch and maybe you or anyone else who wants to pitch in could help date them? PM or email me if you want

That's the thing, when we look back at the 90s "lulls" in the show, there usually is at least one excellent storyline and the rest of the stories are solid. That storyline was as good as it gets. Olivia was always a difficult person, not a saint, but you felt so much for her because the stakes were so high. I never really liked Nathan, I thought he was pretty mean to her in a tough love kind of way when she was sick (like in the 1994 primetime ep). But to be fair I've not watched 1988-1992 yet and that's probably when he was at his best.

The other issue is, I seem to remember it being a mid-life crises affair, despite the fact that they cast a younger actor in the role and just gave him the Mr. Sheffield grey hair special. Made even less sense. Why they de-aged Nathan is beyond me. Nathan Purdee and Randy Brooks were both born in 1950 and Adam Lazzare-White was born in 1969.

    • Don't do it. They take your money, keep you hanging for weeks and then block you.  I learnt the hard way when I had to try and reclaim a lot of money back.  I reported them over and over but FB won't take the page down.
    • I really like that cast photo: Kay holding tight onto Brock like he is her lover whereas Jill and Phillip Sr oose so much swinging seventies...
    • These assessments heavily rely on when you STARTED watching (or stopped LOL) because of the sheer length of B&B's timeline by now: Due to Caroline's death, the whole relationship has the perfect romance status - forever. Even though the last time we have seen Caroline was her ghostly visit in January 2021. Ridge had to FIGHT for Caroline and he had the chance to GRIEVE for Caroline. (Something that has rarely happened since because pacing nowadays is soooo different!). For me Taylor was always Ridge's second perfect love. Now that I've seen 1990-1992 it is a little harder to fall this assumption because I had no idea hoq quick the shift  of commitment happened in 1992. However, from 1993-2002 there was zero possibility for that Ridge actually loved Brooke. She was a caniving h* who always used her children for her own benefit and desperate need to cling onto Ridge.  Ever since the show shifted to Nick/Brooke/Ridge and Bill/Brooke/Ridge we have entered a whole new aera in the traingel business which made Brooke much more liekable for me, but the perfect romance never involved Ridge.
    • I am watching early 1991 right now and to me it is obvious that Ridge is attracted to Taylor but more emotionally involved with Brooke, although he has given up on her because she's marrying his dad (kind of like he tried to give up Caroline after she married Thorne and dated Brooke instead). Another thing that is obvious is how Brooke is clearly more in love with Ridge than with Eric, and that that marriage was doomed before it began (Brooke dreaming about marrying Ridge on her wedding day to Eric).  I agree that after Thorne, Grant was Macy's best pairing. He was very good with her and cared very deeply about her happiness. I think Macy as a character was very sensitive to OOC writing and it showed in the storylines the months before both her deaths. Because she was usually so decent and sweet, she didn't have a lot of leeway, so anytime she broke that pattern it made you go "whoa..." and it didn't always ring true. Usually it was her interactions with Brooke that pulled her out of character because Macy was shown to truly hate Brooke and it wasn't really in her nature to be hateful, bitter or vindictive (she usually ended up on friendly or at least civil terms with all her rivals - even becoming best friends with Karen). Also, she was more aggressive with Brooke than I'd say was believable for Macy (it was more in character for Macy to turn that destructiveness inward). But it went both ways - Brooke also showed her absolute worst side in her interactions with Macy to the point where it was almost OOC (I never really knew Brooke to be quite as gleefully sadistic with anyone else as she was with Macy - like when she sent her a drink, or when she casually suggested that Macy's mother was dead just to see Macy's reaction).
    • That has definitely been around for a while. Don't think it is photoshopped. I have seen it in 70's mags, just much smaller and B&W  Also there is a different shot of Jeanne, Brenda and Donnelly from this same shoot. All in same clothes but just the three of them and grouped differently. Here it is from a 70's mag but can't remember which one.      Please register in order to view this content Now I look, the B&W one is slightly different. Bill Espy has crossed arms and Brenda is looking more straight on to the camera.  Oh the one with Brenda, Jeanne and Donnelly is definitely a composite from the above cast shot. Just realised that, haha
