For 1977 that seemed a very forthright article.

Pat Falken Smith had in another interview talked about how they deliberately kept David and Val from touching/kissing so as not to offend audiences and they hoped that by the time it happened viewers would be supportive of the couple.

She was furious that they kissed at Doug and Julie's wedding which was a big episode.

Have read elsewhere that the David/Trish pregnancy was a quick rewrite to break up David and Val.

What was the point of the Sharon story?

I get the feeling Smith and Bill Bell (at Y&R) wanted to test the waters, and perhaps felt their shows had progressive audiences, only to learn just the opposite.

Only Agnes Nixon, and later Doug Marland, seemed to know how to weave in this type of material.

Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes at the 1976 Daytime Emmys. They were nominees for Best Actor/Best Actress.

And Susan with Betty Corday and Denise Alexander (who was then on GH). Denise was also a Best Actress nominee (Denise and Susan lost to Helen Gallagher).

This is an interview (of sorts) with Sheri Anderson when she was a script writer for Days that appeared in various newspapers in August 1976. Funny that Bill Bell is referred to as "a story editor in Chicago."
