I have been thinking the last few days about bringing in a son for Evan Walsh, for little to no reason, and then killing him off. Didn't he blow himself up or something? Did they ever say anything about why they brought him on? Did he ever even have any background?

Didn't they also bring on a son for Emily at this time and do nothing with him?

The kid who played Evan Walsh IV had won one contests (like I wanna be a soap star) didn't he? The writers by then didn't care about the history he could've brought up.

That stupid son of Emily's wasn't on for long. He was such a dweeb and had some almost awkward romance story with Alexandra Chando's character.

Thanks.

I'd forgotten that contest. Was it Return or something...

It was In Turn. It's cast is on page 188 after Our Private World. It's the last segment o The ATWT cast in the Cast List Thread.

You summed it up perfectly! Especially the dweeb comment.😂

Someone put this up a month ago. I looked and couldn't find this episode online, although I may have missed it. A few little bits are familiar but that may just be down to usual soap repetition. There's a fun short scene at about 6 minutes where John winds Lisa up over Lucinda dating Ralph Mitchell (or as John describes him to Lisa, "a relative of some ex-husband, some marriage you can't even remember"). Lisa blows her top.

This episode (Bob and Kim's vow renewal) is up, in parts, and has been for many years, but the opening, with Andy reading, is new!

Going through this I am shocked by the ending, which has various Oakdale couples in bed or on the floor, some just talking, some...not talking. Compare that to soaps now, where most love scenes feel like an afterthought, however few there are. ATWT had a reputation for stodginess for a long time (which is probably one of the reasons for the disastrous choice to turn the show into soft porn in the mid '90s), but as you see here, the show did have a sensuality and sexuality, it just wasn't one they clubbed viewers with.

I found Rex Smith so hot back n the day.

I thought he was attractive too (presumably the writers did too considering how many women Daryl bagged).

Aw, I loved Hunter! The dweebiness was a plus in my book because the show was so terrible at writing young people with any kinds of distinguishing personality traits. I thought he had great chemistry with Emily, and I enjoyed his little awkward romance with Maddie for as long as it lasted (which wasn't long). But as was typical in those days, the show had no idea what to do with new characters, so just threw him away after a few months.

Great scene...John was upset that his old sparring partner wasn't up for it! Who WAS Ralph related to (I love that Lucy said the same thing...God I hate that Marland had to puss out and break up John and Lucy making mischief all over town) Ralph was so damn boring he made Whit the wig look good.

That dialogue was so much better then  Larry's "Well, he finds my wife as attractive as I do.." Okay, Lar..we still think your gay..

I never understood why Marland broke up Lucinda and John.  I get why Marland injected trouble and divorce into their storyline (soaps are all about drama), but he never brought them back together.  After the divorce, there was never even a hint that Marland felt that they eventually belonged together.  They were such a fun, dynamic couple -- was perhaps the permanent break because the actors had difficulties with each other?  And TPTB decided to relieve the stress behind the scenes?

I think that they had a little too much zest to them and he had to sacrifice John to the altar of Snyder.  He never was good at writing grey characters his villains were either cartoons or they reformed due to "twu love" and the need for "honesty" I have no idea how Lucinda survived all those years..but John got watered down..look at others..poor Lisa was strapped with "Earl" who despite being an agent was bland as hell....Tom and Margo lost all their sauce and became morose...

Wasn't Ralph Mitchell one of Joyce Coleman's ex's?  Or maybe she just had an affair with him.  And he had a son (Teddy?) with someone -- maybe Joyce or possibly the woman Don Hughes ended up with.  And if I'm not mistaken, Teddy returned years later as a young adult, using a different name (Ryder Hughes, maybe??).  And I think he lived for a while with Bob and Kim.  Can anyone explain more about Ralph Mitchell's history on the show, before Marland brought him back??  And if any of my details are incorrect, please correct me.

Ralph was on for a few years in the late 70's. Was a lover of Joyce when she was involved with Don and then Mary, who he stepped aside for so she could be with Don.

He was an old flame of Valerie and may have been used as a date for Sandy,Susan etc.

ATWT had a bunch of unattached characters in that age group and played musical chairs with them.

As I recall, he was never involved with Lisa so it was puzzling he was brought back at all.
