Poor Iva. And she's in the cross position. How fitting.

I'm not used to Emma being so openly emotional.

Another sign of Steve's coming downfall.

Nice to see that even with Meg's selfishness, she does love her sister and her family.

Love seeing the moment where Lucinda confronts Barbara about Tonio. She took it better than I thought she would have. And the scene with Barbara and Dusty was also wonderful - so rare to see them interact by this point, and to see this motherly side to Barbara. As Duncan said, she has so many sides.

Here's my Chris Goutman story. Bear with me on this one, it's somewhat comvoluted but it has a good payoff:

In 2000 a friend called to tell me that he was dog sitting for a staff member of ATWT (no, it wasn't Goutman) and he asked me if I wouldn't mind doing it for him since he had too much going on at the time. He said this person had a lot of ATWT scripts just sitting around. I said OK and it turned out to be for quite a few weekends throughout that summer as well as the summer of 2001. I never met the ATWT staff member because my friend and I were very thorough about not making it known that I was actually doing the dog sitting, not him. There was no doorman, for starters, and the neighbors always kept to themselves.

I revealed a lot of the storylines I saw in those scripts on a website which I don't even remember the name of now. I only started going online in 2000 so I suppose I felt a bit "drunk with power" at possessing this info. One of the biggest storylines I leaked was Barbara being roasted like a kebab in that

gazebo. I posted under the same name as the one here. I can't say I felt terribly guilty about doing this, my only pangs came from the likelihood that some people on the show might be unfairly accused of doing it.

The spring of 2002 I was a judge for the Daytime Emmy Awards. The ATWT fan luncheon was being held the same day at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. I stopped by to say hello to someone I met via the website I'd posted on. We'd corresponded using the website's email. I had my picture taken with a few people at this luncheon. One of those people somehow found out I was the "leaker." They had also been told that I'd been a background actor on the show many years previously. This person was apparently friendly with Chris Goutman and promptly told him about me. And here's what Goutman did-

He put up a WANTED poster of me at the studio in Brooklyn. A friend of mine who had just started working part-time doing make-up told me he saw it on a bulletin board in a hallway. This was a few days after he'd heard Goutman bitching to another staffer about "that f**king leaker" and how Goutman wanted to handle it personally. On that WANTED poster was my headshot from the early 1980s (??!!), the photo of me from that fan luncheon, an old phone number and...much much worse...my Social Security number. When I was told this I wanted to throw up. My crew friend said he couldn't take a picture of it because it was too close to the production office. He really needed a job there full-time. He apologized profusely. I understood where he was coming from.

I knew one of the stage managers there-we were acquaintances during the late 1970s via a mutual friend, an actress. I knew she lived at the same apartment complex as a friend of mine because we'd bumped into each other a few times in the lobby. I wrote to her about the WANTED poster and how disclosing my Social Security number was a serious breach of privacy and most likely illegal. I wrote that if it wasn't taken down immediately I would consider legal action. I left the letter with her doorman. It must have been passed on to her because my friend the make-up artist informed me the WANTED poster was taken down a day later.

If I had not already been dealing with the impending death of a close friend as well as several other problems I might have gone ahead and tried to sue Goutman. It would have been a tough case to prosecute though, not to mention bizarre. Talk about something out of a soap. I would understand the lengths Goutman would take if I was actually an employee of the show but I wasn't! I did realize how stupid it was to do what I did with the leaking by not at least posting what I'd learned anonymously. The Datalounge site became good for that. Which leads me to....

Fast forward to 2010. ATWT was several months away from going off the air forever. Goutman was still in charge, of course. A friend of mine worked a location shoot up in Westchester County and he told me a major new character got hit by a train and was killed. He didn't actually see who the victim would be, he only knew what he knew by what he had heard on set. I put two and two together, however, and came up with Reid. I felt in my gut it was Reid. I posted my suspicion as fact on Datalounge. It caused something of an uproar there since DL's posters are predominantly gay. This then spilled over to other message boards like TWOP and perhaps this one, I presume. I called up my friend the make-up artist to wish him happy birthday soon afterward and he told me with glee in his voice that Goutman was really catching hell by CBS-they were apparently not at all happy with the enormously negative response by unhappy fans over the prospect of Reid getting killed off weeks before the show ended forever. The soap press was also bugging him about it. Goutman was, as a result, feeling under siege by the stupid decision to kill off Reid when he very likely thought it would be smooth sailing for him until the show's final fade-out. He was wrong. I got my revenge, sorta, didn't I? It took a while but I did.

Well, as my father often said, "Never f**k with the Irish." Or, even better, "What goes around, comes around."

In light of recent events in my own corner of my business I am reminded again just how small an industry this is.

I was on the DL back then, though I don't remember the ATWT threads at all. Thank you for your story and all your invaluable reminiscences.

TimWil,

That's horrible that he had a headshot of you with your social security on it posted in the open for everyone to see? What if it had truly went wrong and someone took your identity? That would've been effed up, and I'm sure Chris would've looked stupid had you pursued legal action. I don't see why you leaking a story is that bad if you don't work them. I'm sure it didn't hinder the ratings as World Turns was flourishing in the early '00s. I am just that you got your revenge in the end, and Goutman got much needed heat from it.

It may be farfetched but because of you spilling the Reid tea and the following backlash, maybe that is the reason why Goutman has been inflicted on another CBS soap.

Thank you. :P

Leaking pertinent storyline details online might not have been the wisest decision, especially as it wasn't done anonymously. Nevertheless, posting a "WANTED" sign in the studio (with your SSN, no less) was OTT even for Goutman. He would have been better off contacting you and asking you politely not to leak any more information about the show.

I love classic episodes.

The show had no focus at this point and Janice and her tea...lol...but even back then the show was miles better than what Goutman and Pissy did to it later on.

Eh...I didn't care. I do know there were a whole contingent of fans that got up on the cross like they were the only ones suffering at the time. I'm sure they would have been happier had Helen Wagner simply died earlier, so Goutman could use Nancy's death to fulfill his wrap-it-up vision.

Exactly, Khan. It wasn't wise of me at all to do what I did. And OTT is definitely how I'd describe Goutman's "plan of action" against me. He obviously got my Social Security number and old phone number from the casting files from when I did background work on it in 1983. Yes, they do have files that go that far back.

NothinButAttitude, I was terrified that someone could steal my identity by usiing my Social Security number-in 2002 we started hearing a lot about identity fraud. Putting it on that bizarre WANTED poster had to have been illegal. That alone made me think about looking into prosecution.

Soapsuds-hah. Just...hah.

Forgot to add something-just a month ago I worked on Saturday Night Live and I was told by a background actor that he, along with 9 other of his felllow regular ATWT background actors, was actually made a member of NATAS and it was paid for by, you guessed it, Goutman at ATWT. This was so they would be eligible to vote for the Daytime Emmy Awards. Not much of a surprise, huh?

Yup...I remember fans of the show saying this better not be true...it got to the point where Goutman had to make a statement about it and basically denied the whole thing...until later on when the end of the show was near...he made some lame excuse that Reid and Luke would have been the end game had the show not been canceled ...yeah right...whatever.

Too bad none of those files contained information on previous storylines; and if they did, too bad no one on the writing staff bothered to consult them. Who knows? It might have prevented the writers from making so many continuity and historical mistakes in the last years.

    • Well...unexpected wiggle room is still wiggle room.   I went back and finally rewatched Friday's episode (along with Thursday's). And God, how those episodes flowed. It did help that Zimmerman did the breakdowns for both so the plot threads were cohesive. I do wonder if she did it today as well. Martin and Tate also of course did good scripts. And I might have to take back my earlier comment about the crowd. While it was not like Nicole's Award Event where I felt there were more extras (and was in the minority on that), I felt this one did not have enough (also in the minority). But on a rewatch, I did like that Production actually did a fairly decent job of covering it up so kudos.    I also wanted to take the moment to say the majority of the week before last (and this past week) were full of cliffhangers. Perhaps not what is used to, but they were there. And I loved that since the majority of said cliffhangers were connected to Silk Press Sheila, it gave an intensity and build to the last week leading to this superb episode that gave us not only an old school soap reveal (complete with moments to let the scenes breathe, but annoyed in how other scenes which were also good did not compare...another sign of knowing when a reveal is great) but, THREE cliffhangers!!! Well-done, Cliffhanger Friday!!!   Ms. Mann and Ms. Michelle were clearly the stars. I've said it once someone mentioned it and I'll say it again...Ambyr just gives so much SMG's version of Kendall on AMC in Eva, and I love that. And that reveal on Silk Press Sheila...WOW. Great to have confirmation that BILL was the lawyer. Even better to see Silk Press interacting with all of the Duprees and not being a bit scared. And yes, I caught that she was preggers at the same time as Nicole. I also caught in the Martin vs Ted scene when he was talking about the timeline was another clue...since we discussed the timeline during Kat's birthday party episodes and how odd it was that Silk Press Sheila would celebrate Eva's birthday if the weeks were off. UNLESS...they're not. I just feel they would not be mentioning it unless SilkPress has a 90s DAYS Sami Trump card incoming. And 90s DAYS Sami Brady ALWAYS had a trump card. So...looking forward to today. lol.    I'm also going to be in the minority about the next thought. I thought Maurice did a good job as Ted in the reveal scenes. Though I do agree that compared to everyone else...even his FOINE doctor friend...he was the weak leak. DD was giving and she was in the background reacting. The Avengers...I mean...the Duprees closing ranks...was great and also showed how in sync the actors were. Naomi being sure Chels was not filming THIS time was a hoot. And I lived for Kat's shade among the mess. I'm happy that we are here at this reveal with OriginalTed since the rumor (marking preemptions) we are a little under two weeks to go before he's out.   I liked the layers. One thing that I like about this show. We usually mention something here and then the show writers have it mentioned either in episode or immediately in the next. The SilkPress/Eva picture last week. Where is Naomi/Vanessa this week of episodes. And they got to it. Well-played. I also like the reveal that Martin knew SilkPress as a kid, calling back to that weird scene with the brownie. I mentioned the Bill-as-Lawyer scene, calling back to Bill/Vernon's first alone scene. The reveal of all of SilkPress's many names. The fact that Andre and Dani continue to grow closer and closer and had a near-miss...something this show knows how to do extremely well for me. Their near-misses built up the drama and story, and I see how much I'm invested when we have them. The whole Silk Press Sheila story being the best example.    I see from a few of the comments some of you all are already thinking about those consequences toward Bill that I was thinking about on Friday.

And while I did not like the Vanessa/Doug scenes at first view...though I love they followed up on her food poisoning phone call on Thursday...I liked it on second watch. Partly because it gave another hint that Doug has some idea of what Vanessa is doing...if not who.  Partly because I had assumed that Doug got poisoned, too. Seeing it was just Vanessa confused me since I thought they were out at dinner pre-party. That said...I go back to my original thought in that moment. Has Vanessa being having all this sex without protection and we are going to get a WTD with Doug, Diego, and whoever else she has been with? Uh oh?    And I continue to also love how flashbacks are used. Rare do they show a flashback to a prior episode unless it's important so those are well done. And then you have the flashbacks like the one with Bill/Dani that informs the audience. And I loved that green dress. But tbf, I loved the feistiness of her red dress. Andre was not alone in taking her in.    And someone mentioned it the other day and I wanted to echo it. One thing I like about this show that I don't see much in the other soaps to this degree has been that several of the characters have their own personal style for sure, but the men's style really have stood out for me since its started. Ted being a clear example with his turtlenecks and general...for lack of better word at the moment manly...to him. I like that about the men where other men styles on other soaps just blend together.    Looking forward to Kat v Eva, Anita vs Silk Press Sheila, and Nicole vs Ted today.    Did I mention I was happy Clifton was back?
    • I’ll take a pass on the lecture, because you've overestimated my concern with your feedback, but thanks for the enthusiasm.
    • I guess it's because the stories on "Hotel" tended to be very...melodramatic, lol?  I mean, it seems like every episode had long-lost lovers reuniting or people finding out someone they knew and/or loved was dying.  And then there was the time Anne Baxter was strung out on dope, lol. Brandon Stoddard must've envied what the other Brandon (Tartikoff) was doing at NBC.
    • Given some of the things that have been said I am going to quote the preface to an analysis I researched & posted about the desired demos when JFP was EP of AW. And, that is more than enough about that, from me.
    • The thing that I am stuck on is that the in studio scenes in Egypt started airing in mid-October. It seems very strange that they would have planned to have a couple of weeks of studio scenes airing before they started showing location footage. Normally even though some scenes in a remote-infused storyline are in studio, they would start airing a mixture of studio and location footage at the same time. I suspect they had put Arizona in their back pocket well before the Achille Lauro (hence Hawk arriving in September) and possibly moved up the Egypt in-studio action so that the remote Arizona piece unfolded during November. The Achille Lauro may have been the final straw but I would bet it was not the first time they considered the risk. I have found one somewhat contemporaneous reference published on October 19th but pinned to an October 7th* "diary entry" mentioning that the location shoot in Egypt had been changed to Arizona. "International terrorism has its effect on daytime drama, too. Another World producers had scheduled an elaborate and expensive location shoot in Egypt this fall, But with the serious military attacks and hijackings going on, they decided to play it safe. They are going to Arizona instead. The cast members involved were disappointed but understood the decision." *Undated, but specified as the Monday before Melody Thomas's wedding to Ed Scott. But of course it's possible that the first draft referred to Egypt and was revised after October 7th to mention the cancellation before it went to press. But even making the decision the week of October 7th seems tight to get the Egypt scenes to air on the 17th/18th. I would love to find something from a daily news cycle that would be clearer about the dates.
    • So, Maxim, at this moment in time Evan is under the (mistaken) impression that, for no good reason, Rachel murdered his mother, in cold blood, and his ulterior motive for coming to Bay City is to get vengeance for this wrong that was done to his family & him.  Now, Rachel never murdered anyone. Janice had the knife on her & she pulled the knife on Rachel in the fight they were having. The reason they were fighting was because Janice had been poisoning Mac. So, this sets out the difference between the Frame family version of events & reality as the rest of us know it to be. Also no one in Bay City knows Evan is Janice's son. He goes by Evan Bates, not Frame.

Janice Frame is Evan's mother. Janice & Mac were together. Janice was up to no good. Mitch was helping her. She was slowly, little by little, every day, POISONING Mac. She was almost successful. In St. Croix, Rachel & Janice began what was literally a physical fight. They fell into the resort swimming pool, continuing to fight each other. Somehow, I guess Janice had it on her, there was a knife in play but Rachel kept Janice from stabbing her & got it away from her & they continued to struggle until Rachel stabbed Janice, which was a death blow. Mitch did a 180 & helped Rachel get Mac to the hospital. He was so weakened by the poison he could not even stand unassisted. It took both of them together to walk him to the hospital but it did save his life.  The St. Croix remote was SO beautiful, but so dangerous & scary. Also action-packed. Hooray! Maxim's backSo, I just got home & this is what I found waiting for me. I wrote this several hours ago. I guess I neglected to hit send.
