Valene's return was just enough to piss me off. They should have scrapped it all together. I still don't see how JR's death caused them to cut back on Val and Gary's story. I know they were KL characters but still. I loved Val VS. Sue Ellen and Gary really did fit perfectly into the canvas.

Had they cut down on Drew and Emma they would have had enough time to fit a little more of Val and Gary's ending in there. I don't expect to see them again.

Its been amazing to have Cliff back and Ken is doing a fantastic job but that explosion was all out of character.

The scenes of Dallas are too rushed....they happen way too fast...unless they are showing boring Elena..or other boring stuff....they need to slow the scenes down...it was great seeing JVA again.

Valene and Lucy looked like sisters, not mother and daughter. Whats the history with her and Sue Ellen? Did they hate each other in the original series? Also what was up with the Sharon Newman hair?

I cant with the younger set. John Ross is turning into quite the man slut with no direction and Emma seems like she's ready to let loose now that she isn't under her father's control. I have no idea what they are doing with Rebecca now and Elena has always been boring as her brother has shaped up to be.

I think they were going more for Val/Abby, but Sue Ellen was a total and complete bitch the first 6 or 7 seasons of Dallas. Especially in those early years she treated everybody like garbage. Considering the evil things that JR did to both Gary AND Valene, it's not a stretch to think she wouldn't be fond of Sue Ellen. I found the scene believable as an extension of her hatred of JR. When they originally wrote the scene I bet it was written for Val/JR. My biggest problem is the lack of follow through. They finally try and develop the old characters and nothing comes of it. This show is really horrific. I'm sorry, but it's terrible.

I vaguely remember Val saying either on Knots or some Dallas cameo years ago that Sue-Ellen was just as bad as JR. I don't remember the circumstances but the scene where she called Sue-Ellen a bitch did not seem out of the blue to me. If anything did it was the forceful personality they gave Val, not how she felt about Sue-Ellen.

You know, at least each GH vet gets episodes to showcase themselves. Maybe not full storylines, but they've each at least gotten one big episode. With nuDallas they have these characters standing in the background like Under 5's and when they DO say something it makes little sense. We know absolutely nothing about what they've been doing the past 20 years. Charlene Tilton said she doesn't even know if Lucy lives in Dallas. She was very harsh in her new Ultimate Dallas interview.

It was also odd that Val made no mention of J.R.'s death. If you're going to do something, do it full out and right. Characters like Val and Gary have a WEALTH of background, they aren't random ranch hand extras from 1983 where you can just flash their faces and satisfy the audience. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see them period, but you can't half step a Gary or a Val. I realize that we are watching them in Dallas terms rather than Knots terms, but, c'mon.

I hope that the AMC and OLTL reboots will somehow spark a reinterest in classic soaps across the board. I think hulu, Netflix and the like are perfect places to do reunion movies/miniseries. Seeing Val and Gary just makes me want an eight episode Back to the Cul-de-Sac II, but only if written by the best in the biz.

I think it's like has been said all along, the vets are there just as window dressing, they want to focus on the younger characters.

I know people on twitter were saying Monday that this eppy had way too much Christopher. I don't see the show lasting much longer if this keeps up. I think its done anyways without LH

Dear God, Joan Van Ark looks like a corpse. Stop with the plastic surgery already, and someone PLEASE put some color on that woman's lips.

JR was a bit of a man-slut himself, so I don't mind John Ross doing the same thing. John Ross is actually growing on me as this season progresses. Josh Henderson feels less awkward in the role to me, and seems to be stepping it up a bit. Jesse Metcalfe is still just horrible, and I cringe whenever he's on the screen. I actually like John Ross and Pamela as a couple, but seeing them roll around in bed while she's visibly pregnant with his cousin's twins would be awkward, so I understand why they're not really together at the moment.

Cliff letting the rig explode with his pregnant daughter on it felt over the top to me, even for him.

I was just a child when Dallas originally aired, so while I watched it with my family, I don't have the same distinct memories of the show that some of you do. I absolutely love the reboot. I don't miss an episode. Yes, it's faster-paced than I'm used to with daytime, but the writing is good. There are a lot of twists that I didn't entirely see coming. I don't mind the brevity of Gary and Val's appearance - I don't want a whole show devoted to their backstory and their relationships. I don't care about Knots Landing - this is Dallas. I don't mind seeing very little of Lucy either. I got a bit bored with Ann and her whole trial, but I don't mind Emma.

    • She did. It was during a party at Amanda's. She didn't literally throw herself at him, but she was subtly coming on to him and he quickly shut her down. Yes, I remember she not only made a pass at Justin, she convinced Jackie that he was harassing her sexually. She also tried to convince Sara that he was pestering her. Everyone banged Josh back then, LOL. Whoa. I must have missed a good chunk of this first time around because I don't remember Reva going to India.  What I recall is Harley being a nanny to the kids and then Reva driving off the bridge. Then they kind of toyed with the idea of Josh and Harley getting together but I don't think that ever happened. Yes, that all happens but I don't recall the tumor. Maybe that's coming up soon with the videos being uploaded to Spauldingfield. The last one I watched, she was planning to vamp Kyle while taking care of the pregnant Maeve.
    • I am a little disappointed that the show will be writing Jenn as in the wrong for her not liking Cat, when she's actually in the right.  Maybe if Cat was played by a competent actress and had a purpose, I would be more behind this propping of the character. And I can't wait for the funeral for John Black to be over and then we can proceed and move on.
    • I'm not sure if the boy Carrie 2 seduced (I think his name was Ron) was still in high school or in college, but I remember he was very shy. I don't recall her making a pass at Alan, but she did make one at Justin, and she ended up banging Josh. I think there was an out of town business man too. Reva thought Josh and Vanessa were having an affair. Vanessa had just been fired by Roger, and when Reva took off to India, Van started helping Josh with the children. He then hired Van to work at Lewis. She would hear him on a business call with Van and think they were arranging a tryst. Or they sat too close together on the couch, so of course they were hiding an affair from her. It was very weird and blew up really quick.  It culminated at the party Reva was throwing at the club to introduce Dylan to Justin. Reva imagined everyone whispering about her and then she dumped a tray of drinks on Vanessa. When Vanessa hauled her into the ladies room to ask WTF, Reva accuses them of having an affair, asks if Van's pregnant, and then knocks her to the floor. I do think Claire had a tumor. I know around Valentine's day, Claire is making passes at a young businessman (or maybe even someone college age), and Ross (Van kinda pushed her at him because she's not keen on Calla). There's also a young intern played by Burke Moses that I think she sleeps with.

If the standard of play in the women's final yesterday wasn't of the highest caliber, that is not something you could say about today's final. It was absolutely fantastic tennis.
    • When Barbara's letter was read (partly in Barbara's voice), there was commenting upthread that Barbara's voice is similar to the voice of Naomi's unhoused client June.  It did sound like her.  June is played by Jasmine Burke.  Per closing credits, Barbara was voiced by Sherita Bolden.  Still possible that they are connected. From our discussion on the May thread:  Looks and/or voices similar between June, Haley, and Tracy.   Tracy looks like Debbi Morgan. LOL so June might be connected to Haley, Tracy, or Barbara; and/or Samantha&Tyrell. I love that we don't know!
    • In the 1987 episodes, Mary has wonderful conversations with MJ and Cheryl. This is a realistic family with believable dynamics. Mary's ambivalence towards Vince is played nicely. Denise Alexander is so good here. I don't know what happened that the writers or producers just decided to chuck it all away. I don't FF these scenes. The show had a strong family that could have had years of storyline and they did nothing with them. I really don't get it.
    • I can't speak for Sonni, but I thought Annie came off as neurotic from very early on. That's just how Cynthia Watros plays her parts, and the writing went along. I don't think Claire was mentally ill - they claimed she had a brain tumor, didn't they? I am never sure just why they made the effort given that she was leaving anyway.
    • @DeeVee Claire is a perfect example. So many women came to Springfield as competent, smart, and talented professionals. Then they’d attract a so-called “good guy,” get dumped, and spiral into complete chaos. What always strikes me is how clearly it plays like a male fantasy—yet it was written and sold to a female audience.  I'm not a content expert, but I don't think cis gendered women fantasize about losing control of their mental faculties in response to an orgasm. Similar to Holly's story, it seems repulsive, because I don't believe women fantasize about becoming more vulnerable and appealing to men after they've been assaulted.
    • I just watched some parts of an episode of GL where Roger has just been shot by Holly. Rita then admits to Hillary that Roger raped her. Kasdorf is such a fantastic actress. I wish there were more of her work available.
