GH: August Discussion Thread

I bet Guza, Korte and the outline writers were salivating to get to this moment, because I agree, the Niz Family Reunion was incredibly anti-climactic. Liz was all, "OMG! You found my keys!!" <_<

LOL. And +1

God forbid they give Claire Labine, Wendy Riche and their writing and production teams the credit they deserve.

But these aren't Labine episodes, are they?

I can never tell the transition years between Labine and Guza... well, until Click-Boom, that is. Harumph. I guess it makes sense that the Gooz would never let that woman's Brenda stuff air while he's around.

You know, I like Brenda and all, but I miss that AMC isn't on. It has been a pretty great watch lately. Although I haven't seen yesterday's Kendall episode yet (somebody whose absence is NOT missed on my part) so... famous last words.

I like the credits/chryon plastered before the main titles.

On the bright side for you AMS, does that mean that The Kids will no longer be a day behind on your ABC affiliate?!

I like the titles on the screen too, but I was kinda hoping they'd leave it alone and play the full screen credits just so I can hear a snippet of FOTH. And when I say plastered on the screen, I really mean it, too! For a few seconds, half of the screen was covered in writers' names.

I'm pretty sure they'll just repeat this GH episode again tomorrow. At least I hope so. I watch AMC on the New Orleans station, but if I miss it, I catch the day-behind on the Baton Rouge station.

God forbid they give Claire Labine, Wendy Riche and their writing and production teams the credit they deserve.

They were the appropriate credits (Riche was credited as EP), but just formatted in the way the current credits are. The HWs were Richard Culliton and Karen Harris.

This episode is decent. I was looking forward to it because I loved the Christmas episode SOAPnet showed a few years ago, but this one isn't as good as that one was. It's still all right, though. I think I like this era of GH. It does a body good to see Anna Lee sitting there all refined in her wheelchair. She's too cute trying to ad lib small talk with John Ingle while they wait for the wedding to start.

Just give me a f'n AMC marathon soon, and I'll be all right. And don't be afraid to show some old school Erica.

Alan and Monica :( Never really cared for them but they were GH icons. Its criminal what was done to them

Seeing Lucy makes he realizes how much the show is missing not having her around. It needs her quirky sense of humor and energy

Bobbie and Tony were married 8 years? Thats an eternity in soap years and unheard of today

Real Carly. I miss her

  • Member

Wow RealEmily and RealCarly on the same show. Nice to see a Carly that isn't smug and smirky 24/7, and a actress playing Carly that can act her ass off

Bobbie, Ned, Alan and more. This is GH.

So was this before Emily spent all her time screaming at people about the glory and power of Jason?

  • Member

Yep and it's even more squicky when you realize Sonny had sex with her too

I know I'm talking to myself for now, but I have to ask, who is the annoying girl who found Brenda and Jax in Jax's room? She's awful!

You mean Amber Tamblyn's Emily?

Chirs Whitesell was HW? How was his tenure perceived at GH? This era of GH always intrigues me because it existed between two (alleged) golden ages of GH, Labine and Guza's. Makes one wonder what would have happened if either writer (Culliton or Whitesell) was given more time to write for the show.

Chris Whitsell is underrated, IMO. He is a jobbing HW for transition periods, kind of like Beth Millstein and Carolyn Culliton. However, he has done solid work (I thought) for longer periods at Sunset Beach and Days. Of course, he really cut his teeth over at AW, during a golden era of the late-80s-early 90s. A good foundation.

Whitesell and Icabuzio (?) were fill-ins while the show was waiting for the iconic Luza to return. Their work was judged harshly during that period, especially the Tin Man story, and I can see why, but it was better than pretty much anything Guza has done since.

Culliton was also frequently derided for not being able to compare to Guza. The idea was that Guza would return to the show and it would be a paradise again.

Can longtime GH fans fill me in on something...was the 2PM EST episode exactly the way it played out when it originally aired or did ABC add in clips, generic music and completely butcher the episode?

I have a hard time believing Stefan and Katherine were the only other story that day and only having three scenes too?!

I also have a difficult time believing Wendy Riche would ever approve such dreadful background music for those flashbacks.

The marathon has just started here for me, WOW this is better than I thought it would be. Was to young to watch this episode of GH, so this is pure awesome seeing how it used to be. I love Brenda/Jax! Everything was so different back then!! Jax used to have a little English accent, what happened to it LOL??

Here's the recap for the 2 PM episode.

http://www.soapcentral.com/gh/recaps/1997/970922.php#wed

Katherine wakes up alone in Stefan's bed. She goes downstairs looking for him and she bumps into Alexis who is curious as to what she is doing there. Katherine tells her she assumes she wants an explanation but will have to ask Stefan. Alexis questions her on the comfort of the guest room; her motive, trying to find out if the two slept together. Katherine tells her they are both free agents and she doesn't want to discuss this with her. She does however ask Alexis if she knows where he is because when she woke up he wasn't on his side of the bed.

Jax wakes up to find V. on the couch sketching. She tells him she couldn't sleep and he looks at the work she's been doing. From looking at her sketches he creates a story, telling her there's more to them than meets the eye. She doesn't think he should read so much into them, she just drew some figures she had seen on the beach.

Brenda wakes up and finds Jason still outside her door. She asks him to get rid of all the stuff inside her room. As he's picking up the gifts and other wedding stuff, he sees the diamond bracelet and anklet Sonny gave her. Jason looks at her and she tells him he can give them to Sonny and tell him to stay gone. Brenda also lets him know she does not want to see him around the hotel. Once he's gone starts thinking back to all the times she's spent with Sonny; From the first time they met at the docks, their first kiss, the first time they made love, their adventures in Puerto Rico, the first time he told her he loved her, the time she was shot at in the shower, the day he found the wire on her and threw her out, when he called her a whore for sleeping with Miguel, Sonny telling her she wasn't allowed in his club, when they kissed outside Luke's after being apart for so long, and when he left her standing in the rain after telling her Lily was pregnant. She questions herself out loud as to why she didn't let go and tells herself Sonny was the drug.

-Alexis goes to Stefan and asks him if he's gotten some new information that she doesn't know about. She also asks if he slept with Katherine and this question causes him to fly off the handle. He tells her that things will end today and that they didn't make love. He goes back to Wyndemere where Katherine is waiting for him. He apologizes for not being there when she woke up and she tells him he could have left her a note. Katherine tells him she feels something is off between them and knows something has changed ever since they were free to see each other. She wants him to tell her and Stefan says he won't deny it, he is there to tell her everything.

V. thanks Jax for taking an interest in her work, not many people have. He tells her to pack her bags they're heading back to PC.

Brenda continues to have memories of Sonny, now they are of the present. She thinks back to when Rivera was holding them hostage and the two times Sonny asked her to marry him, the last night they spent in the penthouse, there hug before she left for the church, dressing for the wedding, walking down the aisle, and then Jason breaking the news to her. She cries and all she says is, Sonny you weren't there.

Sonny sits in his limo and Jason gets in. He asks where Brenda is and he tells him at the hotel bridal suite. Sonny asks what happened at the church and Jason tells him everything, from how she walked up the aisle alone, how she turned around and smiled when she heard the church door open thinking it was him and how this all happened in front of everyone. Jason explains what happened when everyone left them alone and tells him she believed him. Sonny asks Jason if Brenda hates him and Jason takes the bracelets out of his pocket and gives them to Sonny. He says it's better this way and Jason tells him she also hates him; Sonny says he doesn't care, just take care of her. Jason asks where he's going and Sonny tells him to Puerto Rico to check some things out. Then he schedules a flight back to PC but he won't be on it. Jason informs him of the money he switched over for him but Sonny tells him he doesn't want it because it really is Jason's. They tell each other not to die and then Sonny tells him to let the pilot know he's ready. Jason gets out of the limo and Sonny just sits there staring ahead.

As I suspected, they really butchered this. Why even leave the Stefan/Katherine stuff in at all? They should have just gotten rid of that and V/Jax stuff completely and re-edited full Sonny/Brenda clipshow.

The re-edit didn't bother me nearly as bad as the shiteous, generic music(aside from the S&B Theme). Awful!

Wow...I don't remember Steve Burton being that thin in 2002.

Oh [!@#$%^&*], there's Courtney Matthews. This is the height of the Drab 4's takeover of GH. The opening even ended with the four of them dancing and kissing. Vomit.
