If they were going to kill her off they should have done it long ago when it would have been emotionally palpable, now the reaction is just fan anger. They can always just say Evangeline isn't actually dead, they can say Eli spirited her away, or that her mother faked Evangeline's death and is taking care of her elsewhere. No one on a soap is dead.
