Not "All My Shadows," but...

I gave up on Nuke about a year ago, i.e., not watching ATWT, just as I had been doing -- not doing? -- from ~1996 until whenever Van Hansis was hired. I started watching again on Reid's first day. I'd read months before that Luke and Noah's doctor were going to fall in love, so I was waiting eagerly for Reid to get to town.

Luckily, Reid has turned out to be his own little gaytime-in-the-daytime phenomenon, a gift from God for Luke Snyder. I just love every little scene he and Luke are in. So, for me, Luke and Noah together means Luke and Reid are not together, and that is not a state I enjoy.

The writing made Noah into a sucky, unsympathetic SASA (Straight Acting, Straight Appearing), so I never want Luke to go back to him. If I'd been watching on TV yesterday, I'd've thrown a sock at it when Luke told Noah he wanted to be with him (Noah). Unlike some, I don't blame Jake S. It's the writing that made Noah into the infinite sucking maw he became. (Kiss under the NYE clock, anyone?)

It becomes personal for me, too. I'm a lot like Luke, and I've had two Noahs in my life -- I'm talking MAJOR relationships -- both of whom changed my life in ways I wish I could go back and change. Since I can't do that, I'll settle for throwing socks at Luke Snyder when he tells Doucheous Noah that he loves him and wants to be with him, not Reid. I just want to smack some sense into him.

It's hard for me to conceive of anyone's not hating Nuke when Ruke is waiting in the wings.

Yup, Noah is like the mosquito you want to slap off your arm. His character has never matured. Luke is just as bad. Noah treats him like a doormat and Luke continues to grovel back to him.

Gawd..and Jake Silbermann acting never improved either. That is so sad.

LOL...I thought the singing and drunken riffs were funny. It was his "mushy talk" (rhapsodizing on Katie's awesome kissing technique) that grossed me out. C'mon...Chris bedded Molly and Emily (not to mention former Porn Queen Alison)...and Katie's kissing is somehow more awesome? GMAB.

Did I miss something? She and Katie were talking at WOAK. Now, why she was there, I'm a little stumped by too...but I didn't see her at Java.

My SOD says Nancy also talks to Casey and Alison, so I'm hoping Helen Wagner's on tomorrow as well.

She was at Java with Casey and Allison for a couple of scenes in the first half before she had her scenes with Bubbles in the second half. IIRC, all of the sources said that today was her last episode. When she died, they were saying that she was gonna be due in the studio the following week, so it kinda makes me sad to think that they were probably gonna start having on a little more leading up to the finale, but alas...she couldn't hold on that long. We miss you, Helen :(

Exactly what I said at the end of GUIDING LIGHT. ;-)

Seeing Helen Wagner on my TV screen for what will be the last time (save for old clips) literally brought tears to my eyes. I hope and pray God remains with her, her loved ones and colleagues.

For me, ATWT is the best it has been in ages. All of my fav characters have been seen: Lucinda, Paul, Emily, Barbara, Nancy, Reid, Luke, Emma. Lucinda has been on great the past few episodes and Emma is acting all mother hen like she did back in the 1980's. I even think the storylines are fairly good and like how so many of the characters are interacting. The show deserves better then the current ratings.

One detail: Henry made some remark about Babs drugging Emily to break her up and Paul but that is all wrong because the situation was about Hal like five years ago. The writers need to be a bit more carful. I am thrilled that the show have not been so CarJack/Janet focused. The overuse of Carly has really hurt the show over the years and did not allow for the development of other characters.

When is James due back? I am totally excited about it.

I'm not really feeling Katie and Chris, mainly because this particular Chris is such a doofus half the time. Does Katie *have* to have a man...? What ever happened to just being single for awhile?

YAY to Reid telling Luke to get out. MMMmmm it was nice watching him walk towards the front door from behind.

So NutMeg might be getting poisoned...I see. Well, I still think shes nuts irregardless.

If Katie wants to play the "honesty in all relationships" card, she should tell Vienna the ONLY reason she called her to come back to Oakdale in the first place was because she already knew about Henry's relationship with Babs, and didn't like it.

And how bad could any pic/videos that Silas has of Molly be? I mean, embarrassing, sure...but this is Molly. Not exactly a virgin, and certainly not ever thought of as "demure". Unless she's doing KING KONG or something, it hardly seems like anything she could be coerced with.

Exactly. There's a reason why t he "supercouple status" made the Noah and Luke pairing stagnant (for me) for the past 2 years (since after Ameera left and right before Brian Wheatley showed up). I used to LOVE the pairing, but then I got tired of fanwanking everything that wasn't shown on screen to death, in order to try and justify things that happened on screen: Noah constantly pushing Luke away. Luke continuing to take that treatment from Noah. Nobody in Luke's family seeing what was going on.

Again, I agree with you. If Noah Mayer was Noelle Mayer, her character would have been kicked to the curb a long time ago. Does anyone else remember Sophie? Noah survived because he was a gay character and the only damn gay in the village of Oakdale who WASN'T related to Luke.

I remember that period. Folks had created icons and screen banners and webpages on 2 to 3 press images alone. Van and Jake went to the 2007 GLAAD Awards a whole month BEFORE Jake's first airdate.

ESS and Dr. Reid Oliver ARE gifts to this industry. Dr. Reid Oliver's a breathe a fresh damn air, a character that doesn't need to be biologically connected/related to anyone else on the canvas and that IF the show writers take the time to think outside the box and let a character grow and develop while letting the audience SEE it on screen, you can establish a storyline in which not everything can be predicted from the first moment. They had folks questioning if he was straight and if he was going to be Katie's new love interest for months.

That's why I want Luke to experience something, hell ANYTHING with Reid for however long the show deems fit. Luke's never been with anybody else. All that he knows is Noah and that's not a good thing, especially in regards to how dysfunctional their relationship has been for a very long time. Luke should NEVER be someone's doormat, especially for a character that has been so shabbily written for the past 3 years.

Don't get me wrong, I think Jake's a sweetie, who's gorgeous, but for awhile, especially in the beginning I wanted him to use his time off-screen by taking some more acting classes.

Don't get me wrong; I'm totally pro-ATWT discussion. It just sucks that most of this thread has been taken over by Nuke fans saying how much they love Nuke, and anti-Nuke fans saying how much they despise Nuke. I get the passion; I do. But there are tons of other storylines and characters to talk about. But don't shoot me; that's just my own personal opinion. One of the main reasons I've been absent as of late is the sudden increase in posters' lack of openmindedness when it comes to others' opinions.

Nancy's final line went something like this:

"Don't push yourself too hard, dear. Just know that it takes time to be ready to fall in love again, and I don't think you are".

In Java, Nancy said she was meeting Kim there later. I was clinging to hope that Kim would appear and Nancy would get a decent scene. Nothing against Katie, and I know the situation is out of everyone's control, but I was hoping for somewhat of a Hughes-y final scene for Nancy.

Helen's absence is already greatly felt. :(

This show of over a half-decade is ending in three months and all anyone can bitch about is Nuke? If the show was going on another 5 years, who knows if they'd even be with the same people, or that any of them (Luke, Noah or Reid) would still be on the show. As it is, in 5 years it won't even matter anyway, because RIP ATWT.

At this point, we aren't even talking about legacy... because those multi-generational legacy characters/stories are soon going to be relegated to memory.

So, to the Lures and the Nukes... all you're nattering is about bragging rights over the ending of a dead show. Considering who is writing and producing it, there's a huge chance you'll be disappointed anyway - just like the majority of viewers. For all the thought and effort and creativity that these hacks want to expend, they will most likely flip a coin.

So, if your couple ends up being the ones together on the last episode, you can, in the words of Leland from Citizen Kane

, "Take all your power to a deserted island and lord it over the monkeys".

Please stop talking about sh!t that is totally unimportant. Let's talk about matters of consequence, the 50+ legacy of this show, and of the late Mrs. Helen Wagner.

I'm failing to see how discussing As the World Turns in a thread titled "ATWT: June 2010 Discussion" is a bad thing...? And how characters and storylines currently playing out on the show are "unimportant?" But maybe it's just me, I don't know. I don't see where anyone was told that they can't discuss other characters and storylines. But I digress.

Today's show was totally hot and cold for me. I loved the stuff at Lily's house. Stuff like that, I always like, with storylines mingling together under the same roof. And it felt like a real party, too! I'm not sold on Gabe, yet, though, so we shall see.

Lily's "Oh, Noah, but the kids love you!" talk had me cracking up. Come on, now. How often have we ever seen those poor kids with Lunkhead? The writing for this triangle is getting very repetitive. Reid and Luke get close, Luke goes to Noah, Reid gets annoyed and starts cracking jokes, Luke "sees the light" and stands up to the big bad doctor, Noah treats Luke like a spoiled ham sandwich, Reid and Luke get close, etc. And Reid threw away a perfectly good TV dinner.

The stuff with Molly and Silas. Jeez. I haven't even been following this storyline, and I love Lesli Kay, but man...that was some bad acting she had going on, from the beginning to the show to the very last preview.

Got to say I don't miss the days of the usual suspects dominating the ATWT thread. ATWT is being cancelled is the best thing that ever happened to this thread.

You clearly don't even read what has been posted about Reid and Luke here because just about no one here thinks that they are ending up together so there is no such thing as "bragging rights" going on here. How about you post what you want to post about and let the rest of us do the same? Don't know why you are so riled up over what people post about dead show anyway.

Back to the show. Reid rocks. ESS is so talented. Too bad Reid hasn't figured out that he is too good for Luke as yet. At least, I like that he is so dismissive about Luke's drama. I hope that Reid grabbed some good food on the way out.

Lily is so pathetic. You would think Noah just got a death sentence from the way she was acting. She will never change no matter who is playing the role.

    • What a wonderful photo! It really is a shame that Peacock will not show those early years. I know I'd love to see them!
    • With the death of Days and GH actress, Denise Alexander, someone posted this in the Days thread, a '60s-era photo of some of the cast, which lists the names. In the upper left, is a young Susan Flannery, who obviously ended up playing Stephanie Forrester on B&B, who was one of a few actresses to play Dr. Laura Horton [mother to Mike and Jennifer Horton] on Days. • Sorry, there must have been a error, while creating the file. I redone it and it has audio
    • Tamara Tunie was on a local CBS affiliate in Baltimore the other day talking about a few things she had going on, BTG amongst them: "Beyond the Gates" star Tamara Tunie is in Baltimore for the Reginald F. Lewis Museum's 20th anniversary
    • Kobe/Long had their own template and pretty much gutted the cast. As soon as contracts were up established characters were dropped. They needed to free the budget for the new characters. Going back to Ann,I wonder why the Dobsons renewed her contract around 78? After her initial story she became supporting and they didn't seem to want to pursue a romance with Mike. Maybe the feedback was that viewers blamed her indirectly for Leslie's death. If Mike hadn't taken on her case etc. Did she decide not to disrupt her son's life? Seems odd after everything she didn't claim him back. 1976 continues... Joe Werner is just not bouncing back after his recovery as he should, and Sarah, concerned about his sometimes morbid-seeming depression, consults Justin Marler. They agree that Joe is becoming a “cardiac cripple,” and know this kind of overcompensation for illness and overprecaution can not only be a permanently depressed condition but can actually cause a setback for him physically.  Marler releases Joe into Sarah’s care, but it’s soon apparent that just being out of the hospital hasn’t done anything to boost Joe’s spirits about his return to a normal existence. Marler finally lays it out to Joe—the choice has to be his. He can choose to lead a normal, productive life as a doctor and as a husband to the best wife he could have, or he can choose to become an invalid and live on the outside looking in for the rest of his days, sentencing Sarah to the same fate. Realizing the selfishness of what he’s doing to —Sarah as well as the narrowness of the confinement he’s set for himself, Joe begins to see his preoccupation with his illness as the self-pity it really is and decides he’s ready to return to the hospital for a one hour shift each day. Sarah is overjoyed by his turnabout, but full happiness is hers on the day she overhears Joe telling a fearful patient that the world is beautiful and worth any. effort to get back into it. Steve and Adam are thrilled to learn that Cedars has been the recipient of the Levy Grant for expansion of hospital property. But they have learned, as they report to Ed, that the land they were hoping to build the new research facility on, the land immediately adjacent to the hospital, has been purchased by Dr. Justin Marler. Both Adam and Steve feel that Justin is expanding a power base at Cedars and the land purchase is just one more block in Justin’s power play. When Ed asks Marler why he purchased this particular parcel of land, Marler explains that he bought it with the express intention of someday building his own offices and facilities convenient to the major facilities of Cedars. When the subject of the hospital’s needing the land arises, Marler meets with Adam, and they agree that he should realize a fair profit from his property and that an unbiased assessor should be engaged to evaluate the market value of the land so they can agree on a selling price. When Sarah comments on the fact that Marler is to realize a profit on the land, he bitterly replies that no matter what he’s done since coming to Cedars to prove that he has changed. since she last knew him, she refuses to see him as anything but what he was all those years ago. Sarah insists this isn’t true. But Marler then calls Adam for a meeting and informs him that the land is not for sale at any price. As Adam begins to grow alarmed, Marler continues that the site for the new building will be his personal donation to the hospital. As Adam expresses profuse thanks and appreciation, Marler wryly notes that the tax deductions he’ll realize on this contribution to a charitable institution will benefit himself almost as much as Cedars. When Steve Jackson learns that Marler is to be elected head of the research wing that will be built on his property, he expresses the conviction that this was the exact intention of the gift. Adam, however, assures Steve that the donation wasn’t a factor in the hospital  board’s decision, they were concerned only with Dr. Marler’s reputation as a doctor. | After lengthy consultations and meetings. with the hospital  staff, Ed assured by the head nurse that her nurses performed commendably despite the added pressure of the train wreck, presents his findings to the hospital review board. Steve arrives at two possible explanations for the facts. Either Grainger, more active than usual due to the previously delayed medication, reached for the writing pad and inadvertently disconnected the breathing tubes, or he was in a state of extreme upset because of the delayed medication and.in the excitement a surge of adrenalin within his system caused his brain aneurism to start hemorrhaging. " Upon learning that the review board has ruled out negligence in Grainger’s death, Ed tells Rita, who takes her first free breath in a long time. But Ed hasn’t thought to tell Rita that he’s been in touch with Grainger’s attorney, Mr. Schafer, who, knowing that a woman was at the base of Grainger’s investigation, is coming to Springfield to try to find out who the woman - was who walked out on Grainger when he collapsed —in the restaurant. Peggy, learning that Rita’s “forgetting” to deliver Holly’s message was instrumental in their divorce ‘being finalized, tells Ed that Holly wanted to reach him to stop the divorce. Immediately after, Peggy is torn by doubts, wondering if she did the right thing. She confides in Barbara, who then discusses the situation with Ed. He tells her he and Holly have discovered a new closeness now that they are building their separate lives. Barbara quickly contradicts him: Holly is not building a new life. Barbara gently cautions Ed, saying, “People change, feelings change, and what seems right now may not be right a year from now. No decision is irrevocable.” Ed agrees with this. Now that Ben has declared his love for her, Hope finds herself apprehensive, fearing that she might be making a mistake, as she did a few years ago, when she was sure she was in love with her college professor. Explaining that she doesn’t want to make another mistake, she asks Ben to be patient, and he agrees. When Mike expresses his disapproval of Ben’s overstated independence, his need to be beholden to no one, Hope quickly jumps to Ben’s defense, and Mike apologizes. But Ben, surprisingly, accepts Mike’s assessment as constructive criticism. Later Hope, examining her feelings and desires, tells Ben she does love him and wants to belong to him. Later that evening, after they’ve made love, Ben asks Hope to marry him. And, delighted, she replies that she will. At Hope’s instigation, Bert has a family dinner to which Ben is invited, and Hope announces their intention to marry over glasses of wine. Mike politely offers best wishes while Bert thrills the couple with her offer to' make a Christmas wedding for them. Bert later tells Mike he must accept this engagement with good spirits for Hope, and later, seeing the joy she’s feeling, he gives his daughter his approval. But Ben finds another problem on his very own doorstep: his brother Jerry, who announces he’s left home after several bad fights with their parents. He refuses to tell Ben what they were fighting about. As Ben is showering, Jerry borrows his car and goes out for an hour. The phone rings, but Ben can’t hear it. Shortly after, two uniformed officers visit Mike at home to tell him that his late wife’s car has been involved in a delicatessen robbery earlier in the evening. Since Ben bought Leslie’s car, Mike accompanies the officers to Ben’s apartment. Ben curtly informs the police that he had nothing to do with the robbery and makes it clear that he feels they wouldn’t be there if he didn’t have a record and that his exoneration doesn’t prevent his being hassled like any ex-con,as they tell him he has to go to the police station for questioning. Hope tells Ben she called him earlier, and when he replies that he must have been in the shower, she accepts his word unhesitatingly.Jerry finally returns to Ben’s place and under questioning from Ben admits that he robbed the store, explaining that he has debts. Ben is now in a quandary,as he feels he must protect his brother but doesn’t want to be unfair to Hope. He tries to ease the situation by withdrawing $185 from the joint checking account he opened with Hope and repaying the delicatessen owner. He then sends Jerry out of town to stay with a friend. His relief at having solved the problem is short-lived, however, when Mike informs him that, despite the reparations, the robbery was a felony and the police will continue to investigate. Hope is badly upset to learn while making a deposit that Ben withdrew’a sum which Mike tells her is equal to the amount stolen. This shakes her belief that he _was really home when she called, and she goes to him, asking for an answer to put her mind at rest. Ben can’t betray Jerry and asks Hope to trust him, promising she will have the whole story eventually. But Hope can’t accept this; she needs complete honesty and openness in her relationship and without it cannot goon. She painfully tells her father that the wedding is off despite her love for Ben, and tells Bert to stop preparations. Mike goes to Ben, reminding him that half the money in the account is Hope’s and she has the right to an answer. But Ben won’t say any more and refuses Mike’s offer to represent him legally, again stating that he doesn’t need a lawyer, because he’s done nothing wrong.
    • And not since. I recall it was quite small for a house that size. And I don't know why you would walk down a narrow corridor to get to the main living area. I hate when the sets on soaps don't have a logical layout! As for Andre his clothing is fashion forward and suitable for his character. He ain't gonna wear no blazer!
    • The last I remember seeing Ben, he was divorcing Amanda. He came to tell Evie that he still loved her, but was leaving town so that Amanda wouldn't blame Evie for his divorcing her. I'm not exactly sure when, but Evie doesn't leave town until sometime after Nola and Quint's engagement ball. I'm not sure if she leaves before or after Justin leaves in Sept(?) of '83. I grew to like Helena when she became friends with Vanessa, once she's edging her way out of Quint's life.
