"What's even sillier about this is. I grew up watching soaps. When I was a teen they didn't do stuff like this to draw my attention. I watched for the stories of the adult characters."

This is what I've never understood. When I was 12 years old, I was entranced by the stories of Rachel, Mac and Iris on AW and Doug & Julie on DOOL. I had no interest whatsoever in Jamie, Dennis, Michael, Marianne or any other teens. Why today, when teens grow up much, much faster than 30 years ago, does daytime try to appeal to the youth audience with juvenalia?

another Rachel lover. She was awesome wasn't she? God, I miss AW.

I agree, and I think that may have a lot to do with the fact that I got into the soaps by watching them with my grandparents. I've always found the stories about the older folks more fascinating. Even Dynasty, characters upwards of 40/50/60. And I'd add that as a kid, All My Children for example did a much better job at incorporating its teen summer storylines. They felt seamless and the characters were endearing with interesting storylines that weren't flashy or pandering.

Ok so basically this is what happened with the opening

There are two openings that are 30 seconds long and the old opening song is 40 seconds long so they combined the two openings for these three days. That's why it looks so choppy. I would guess an updated opening on Wednesday since they cut all the old characters out for this musical version. :)

The character order is Starr, Cole, Marty, John, Natalie, Blair, Todd, Tea, Dorian, Clint, Nora, Matthew, Bo, Greg, Rex, Gigi, Brody, Jessica, Langston, Markko, Layla, Cristian, Charlie, Viki

Yeah. Amc's teen stuff was usually great. Even when they had them sing it was tolerable. Like when Jesse McCartney played JR and they started Dreamstreet on there.

I want the theme to stay with Kassie DePavia's version, with some new shots and better editing, I could see it being their new theme without having to do 2 versions.

I really like the actual Starr X'ed Lovers number. That was easily better than anything in the first musical.

I don't have an objection to a musical show if it is a) well put together and B) is in the service of solid, well-told stories. That wasn't the case in 2007 and right now it looks like we may have A but not B. I was really annoyed with the shortchanging of Matthew for Nate the anonymous punk. I like young Darren but the problem both times they've done a musical is they shove these newbies in (Nate, Darren, other chick) at the last minute to create a teen ensemble around the core kids. Unlike last time, however, they're now trying to sell me on 2-minute Nate.

Also, AMC's teen stories, at least in the last decade, were largely awful. The Ecstacy-popping gazebo crowd of JR and dayplayers? Hell no.

Ugh. Also another thing. Anyone who posts over at soapcentral as well should notice how they deleted most of the posts of the people who didn't like the musical. That place is so sensitive compared to here.

SOC isn't so much "sensitive" as it is "precious." They're still in the denial phase. Let them stay there.

Did/Do you post there? Just wanting to know so if I see you over there I can say hi. :)

But, seriously. I lost like 30 posts earlier just because I was talking about how bad the show was. They deleted about 3/4's of one thread and about 4 others about how much the thing sucked.

I'm like 'Free speech my arse' Seriously.

I like it here better. Over on the dark side.

I just need to make a 100x100 version of my awesome Tad/Todd avatar and I'm good to go.

What I don't understand is why the musical has to be three days, why can't it just be one day? I really don't want to watch two more days of this

I know. They should have just wrapped it up today.

Then, if my instincts are correct. They will probably show today's episode again as the Memorial Day rerun.

Haha. And, then ABC is having KA and BB do a commentary episode of this crap online too. Wow, they really just keep pushing it don't they.

Even Greenlee is appalled.

I saw that avatar of her and I was like 'This was the face I made while watching OLTL today' perfect.

Same here. I never had much patience for the younger characters on soaps. AMC's Greg, Jenny, Jesse, Angie, Liza, Tad and Alfred were exceptions, but only b/c, those were each well-defined, played by terrific actors, and not the focus of the show.

Those scenes where Jenny prays for strength and where she tells Mary that she's going to be leaving with Katrina still make me tear up a bit.

Brynn Thayer was robbed - robbed, I say - of an Emmy that year. Her performance in the denouement of the baby switch storyline was as good, if not better than, Karen's confession on the witness stand.

The Wolek sisters are so very missed on this show. And seriously, it would be so damn easy to bring them back. It grates on me.
