I’m thankful for two things:

 

1. Katie being on the cast trip for Potomac. I’m hoping that means she’ll have a good presence on the new season. If so this can be a really strong season. 

 

2. I’m thankful Tamra is finally feeling some heat next week! It feels like everybody has been going easy on her the past couple years. She used to always get called out for her shyt stiring, but now she gets a total pass. I hope Shannon annihilates her once she finds out.

So, the hubby & I are 3 episodes behind on OC and in no rush to catch up... this pretty much sums up our opinion of the Housewives franchises currently: 

 

1. NYC and Potomac - can't WAIT for them return and hope their Spring return is soon! 

2. ATL and BH - sure, let's see what they offer, but I'm not excited like I'd used to be come Nov/Dec. 

3. OC and NJ - hasn't held my interest in a while now (especially NJ). watching out of loyalty in hopes it'll improve. 

 

Basically, if we compare the "genre " of Housewives to the soap opera genre, I feel like we've entered the late 1990's phase of Housewives mania where there's a mixture of losing steam, lack of compelling storyline, holding onto veterans that need to be phased out, and contrived plotlines.

      JFP was only as strong as her writers, which is why her output got worse and worse when she decided she was the only writer anyone needed. They could have easily had a decent short-term story with Lando - maybe cast him as a terminal patient at Cedars, or a long-lost Bauer or Reardon who would leave town after his story is done and possibly return at a later date with a recast. Maybe he could have been tied to Maureen's death, somehow - maybe we'd learn, after he ingratiated himself to everyone in Springfield, that he accidentally ran Maureen off the road during the storm. And when he realizes this he would, in shame, leave town, maybe leaving some Springfield lady devastated if they were about to get married (this could have worked with a better Mindy recast, or maybe a brand new character).

There may be further S18 episodes to replace in English if there are any further skips on YouTube, as many episodes from this season are just in German in the vault, and if they skip those, then we probably have to wait for an eventual Netherlands airing unless someone currently has them in English (currently the German ones needing to replace to full English for S18 are: 4477, 4485, 4486, 4492, 4493, 4494, 4497, 4514, 4515, 4518, 4520, 4522, 4523, 4524, 4526, 4531, 4538, 4541, 4575, 4612 - hopefully YouTube will not skip these, and they won't be a problem to fix). Also, jumping ahead a bit to future seasons, but does anyone have full English speaking copies of any of 4852, 4897, 5275, 5308, 5590, 5591, 5594 (as these are not in full or at all in English in the vault as far as I can tell)?       I found the reference in the AWHP synopses -- it was 1995 but not directly related to the loanshark.

      One of the dumbest situations (Lando) ever. What audience member is going to invest in a storyline with a recast they don't like and a triangle where one character is short-term? It bombed as it should have done. So much of JFP's tenure just reeks of desperation. I don't get how someone could produce SB (which did have flaws but was often brilliant) but make so many terrible mistakes at GL.   I still think JFP would have worked better as a director and music supervisor. Her music work at SB was top notch.  It just seems that Rea was minimized during JFP's tenure because I can't imagine her okaying so many of these casting choices.

      We see the same with GH, where Mark Teschner, the casting director, reportedly has less say since Frank Valentini took over. Some producers want to take over every aspect of their shows.  I think Lando may have been a CBS push.

      No idea but she won Emmys & she was the Casting Director at the same time for both ATWT & GL. She hired Lisa Brown with no job for her. Then Marland made Brown his muse so he created both Iva & Nola for her. But, I think we know that Jill does what Jill wants.
