They won't ever cancel The Young and the Restless. It is number one in HH, Total Viewers, and all of the key demos. It may cost more to make, but they have got to be earning that back in profits, if it is on top all of the time.

I still stand by the fact that I dont think B&B is going anywhere. It is supposedly one of the world's biggest soaps, so it has got to be turning a big profit.

However, OLTL did beat B&B in the key demos this week, and if that keeps up, I suppose worrying about B&B would be understandable..I just don't think that CBS is cancel happy enough to cancel ANOTHER soap.

Ah, but Y&R has a huge french following in France and Quebec, plus they're quite often in the Canadian Top 30 ratings (not that that really makes a HUGE difference, 'oh yay 800,000 people watch Y&R, big whoop'), but it counts for something. I know that with the popularity both shows have overseas, CBS likely won't want to ditch either show for awhile, but even if B&B left CBS, I could see the international backers push for it to remain on the air there and they COULD syndicate to US stations rather easily, a la post-NBC Baywatch.

CBS doesn't make money off the B&B foreign sales. Bell said himself in a recent interview that CBS doesn't care since they aren't the ones making the profit. It's the same with Days, Sony have the distribution rights for DAYS in other countries, not NBC.

Exactly right. The only people who are happy with the foreign sales of B&B, Y&R and DAYS are the Bells, Corday and Sony. The networks have nothing to do with those profits and let me say, those profits are substantial, especially for B&B which doesn't even have a production partner like Y&R and DAYS do with Sony...B&B is strictly Bell owned and operated, so every dime that show makes is money in the bank for Lee, Bill Jr, Brad and Lauralee. A bit of trivia, the syndication arm of B&B is called BBL, named for Bill, Brad and Lauralee.

I think B&B will die with Y&R, their deals expire at the exact same time. I do not see them wanting to surrender a half hour to the affiliates since Y&R and B&B make a formidable team. But we'll see.

7. ATWT 586,000 (-41,000/-95,000) (-357,000)

I just realised that DAYS and Y&R are the least soaps that didn't lose any viewers and ABC soaps lost a massive amount of viewers and especially Women 18-49.

Am I the only one who didnt realize how shitty B&B tends to do in the demos?!

And I agree, I think even if B&B was cancelled by CBS, it could continue production as an online soap in America (distributed by SONY), so that way Sony could still distriubute it to TV around the world and make a profit.
