Soapnet may suck but they've gained viewers while Lifetime had bled them. But I do think Carl is correct. Soapnet's gains IMO are short term because they have no identity either and soon enough they'll probably drop just as Lifetime's have.

Does SoapNet ever release ratings info for their crappy reality programming? I'm really curious how crap like "Bank of Mom and Dad" is doing.

I think Nuke was very different from Kish. The Nuke story seemed organic and encompassed characters that the audience cared about. Luke was a character from a major family whom the audience knew from birth. It was interesting to anticipate and then see reactions from characters like Holden, Lily, Lucinda, Emma, etc. That's the same reason the Bianca coming out story was so successful. We cared about the characters involved. By contrast the Kish story has seemed forced and came out of nowhere. Why should we care about Kyle and Fish? How does their story impact characters the audience has known and cared about? It really doesn't. If they had gone the route of making a legacy character gay, then the story might've worked better. Also there's something very sweet and appealing about Van and Jake. The chemistry seems natural. I just don't get that same vibe from Scott and Brett. Another thing that's bothered me and maybe has bothered others is that just about every aspect of their story is related to the gay issue, from the coming out to the bashing. In the Nuke storylines, on the other hand, it's the story of two characters in love and their sexuality for some reason seems incidental to the storylines, which I think is a smart way to tell their story.

As for gay male storylines turning off female viewers, I don't buy that. Queer as Folk and Will & Grace had a HUGE female audience as does Brothers & Sisters. Judging by the women I work with, they love seeing hot gay guys in action...if the story and characters are appealing. I just think that this particular gay story in not attracting viewers for the reasons I mentioned above.

Admit it..you're Christopher Goutman....LOL. The story with Nuke coming out might have been good but after that the story went downhill. Van and Jake having chemistry....nah.....they were so forced. You just gotta be CG....LOL Too much ATWT praise not to be him..and Noah of all people.....lol

IMO, gay stories have little impact on viewership. I think stories focused on two new characters that no one gives hoots about is a problem for any soap. This is why soaps usually romantically pair new characters with more established characters. The audience isn't interested in a couple of characters who showed up yesterday having a romance regardless of their gender. A better choice would be have long established character like Matthew come out and eventually having a romance. AMC had success with Bianca despite its attempts to sabotage her romance. On ATWT, I so looking forward to Luke's romance with Kevin, then horrible Jake Sieberman showed up and it was downhill from there.

IMO OLTL stinks. I agree. I have NOT enjoyed OLTL these days. The Mitch SL is stupid. These characters are NOT being written as they are. Clint has turned into a complete weirdo, while we see Dorian as a weaker character while she is in this "Mitch" storyline.

Good for AMC. I cannot wait to see what 2010 has in store because we have changes and the spoilers actually sound really good.

Well, at least Carl, Toups, and Chris B, as well as the other EastEnders and Hollyoaks followers know who she is.

Bingo!! ATWT blew it when they didn't pair Luke and Kevin. They oozed chemistry. Instead we got Jake dull as paint Silberman.....ugh..and yes it went downhill and so did Van's acting.

Kevin was so yummy! He would have been the perfect top for Luke. Poor blind Noah can't tell Luke's belly button from is ...

Kish is somewhat new for the show so this isn't an issue of the story getting them viewers but, instead, driving them away. The str8 stuff is mainstay and garnered viewers since day one. I remember OLTL doing well six months ago and being ABC's top rated soap in households.

somewhere on this forum in one of these threads there is a quote by Agnes Nixon about why she did not want P&G to be where she created AMC and OLTL, about how P&G had too many restrictions regarding race and minority characters on their soaps. I would hate to see OLTL cave in to the narrow thinking of bigoted viewers. It's a pity but this is probably what will happen. The fact that OLTL had probably lost a trillion viewers since ComaCop McBain took over the show is never factored into these decisions, or Todd and Blair, or Fara Fath and whoever plays Brody...it is always the marginal characters just passing through who just have to be the scapegoats while the status quo gets preserved.

LOL! The atrocity that is the American daytime serial in its current state is enough to get me riled up and passionate, to the annoyance of many, I'm sure.
