ATWT Canceled

You know what... Now that ATWT has been cancelled... Given that Barbara really has no influence on B&B and not much on Y&R... She might be out to.

They can dump her and create a smaller role, something with much less inflated salary.

Barbara mismanaged two shows right into the shitter. She must be so proud.

Unlike GL, though, ATWT still had some impetus, some pull from its illustrious soapy roots. Unlike GL which, at worst, should have died with the Irna Phillips/70th anniversary tribute show.

I watched As the World Turns during the Marland years and for a year after Marland passed away. Even though I haven't watched in over 15 years, I feel bad for the fans that the show is ending. At least there's YouTube et al where we can watch clips from our favorite past storylines.

My feeling is that CBS has another game show in the works as a replacement. Maybe the new version of Pyramid?

OLTL has a good year to really push itself. Lets remember in 2008 there were times OLTL was higher rated then AMC and GH. It's the only soap coming in under budget and huge difference between OLTL/ATWT, ABC owns OLTL lock, stock and barrell. Anyways I am sad for ATWT, I think it had a couple years left where GL was just dead when it was canned. I think Chris Goutman is a good producer with the right head writer, he stayed in his position for too long. He has been ATWT executive producer for 10 and half years. I actually would love to see Goutman at AMC where he was a director during the Felicia Behr years. I cannot stand Julie because she is a non visionary whereas Goutman is a visionary. His biggest mistake keeping Jean Passanante as long as he did. She stunk for so long and hiring David Kriezman was too late. Anyways also on the DAYS front, NBC is absolutely renewing the show. It is getting over 500,000 more viewers on a budget of 50 percent less. DAYS is the miracle/success story of the year and big reason why is because of Gary Tomlin. Tomlin really was a huge force for DAYS. AMC they will not cancel for at least 2 years, too much is at stake with the move and everything. ABC would not be moving AMC to LA if they were cancelling it. We will be left with six soaps and here will be the pecking order IMO:

6th: OLTL

5th:AMC

4th:DAYS or GH

3rd: DAYS or GH

2nd: B&B

1st:Y&R

 Wow. You would really wrote AMC into cancellation. Jean Passanante was just a marionette, Goutman was dictating stories for a long time now. And he was EP on two shows which got cancelled under his reign.

Not to say anything about what he thinks of soap fans, which, I presume, you are. Basically, you would hire a person who feels contempt for you.

Oh, it can. And it had before, and i wouldnt be shocked if it did it again.

Some yes, but i wouldnt say most. The show has lost a [!@#$%^&*] load of viewers from all the crap fans have taken, like all soaps. However unlike other soaps DAYS has turned itself around and gained an audience. No, its not where it use to be and never will be again...

It isnt like Fronsie has tried for Days more than once. NBC hasnt dropped it, so it cant end up on ABC. I myself dont foresee it. If Days were to go to another network it would be CBS, IMHO, but i honestly believe it will die on NBC.

Less options overall yes, but in its time slot Days is usually against OLTL and ATWT. Both still there. So what explains people turning into days? and staying at days. Love ir, ahte it, whatever the case may be DAYS has pulled off the one thing no other soap has been able to this year - grow an audience. Why is that? Whatever the reason be, it does go to that it can be done. I mean, 369,000 people dont just come out of nowhere. And if they do, then why cant the other soaps get them?

So not surprised....next up on that CBS Management Soap Roundtable Review will be......?????? Who will it be, we will wait till the .....to find out.... No CBS soap is exempt from this and rightly so. You perform you get rewarded, you don't...cya!! We have soap writers on CBS who can't write worth a damn and I want better for the network and expect better as a viewer.

Yeah it definitely is not good for soaps. OLTL is so next.

Days leave NBC? I don't see that happening unless the ratings and demos tank, but I think they'd cancel it. Would ABC really pick up a show they'd have to pay a licensing fee for when they own theirs? I can't see Frons doing that, it's why he didn't pick up Passions after it was cancelled(his own words, it was too expensive)

    • I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

    •   I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.
    • I wish I cared about the homeless lady as much as everyone else seems to. After the nothing burger that was the lawsuit, this just feels like another boring Naomi storyline at Orphy Genes since she has no office.
    • That's great to hear. Thanks. I wish that was more readily available.
    • Just learned that Clifton Davis wrote this song!  I had no idea.

    • I think even if Marland had wanted to write more for Sara/Adam, his hands would have been tied as Robert Milli was one of the actors dumped by P&G due to his age.  From the bits and pieces I've seen of that period, Sara does have a key role in the Carrie plot, and Marland briefly gave her son Tim a more important part. I'm not sure if they just gave up on Tim once Kevin Bacon left or if they never really cared. I did not even know for many years that there was an actor in the part after Kevin...and then not one, but two. The Spauldingfield video on Tim doesn't even show the last actor (Nigel Reed), which kind of says it all. Anyway, I do get the sense Marland has some use for Sara, or for Millette. It's only after he goes that she is dumped. Of course he didn't ever hire her for his other shows, so maybe I'm wrong. (then again he never hired Geraldine Court either and he seemed very fond of her) Ann is an odd character to me as she is a proto-Lillian in being defined by pining for a Bauer brother and being involved in the death of one of their wives. I do wonder what else they could have done with her. She was friends with Diane, wasn't she? They could have had Diane manipulate her against Mike, I suppose.
    • Yassss....come on Maurice and Brandon...give us nothing!!! Wow, their need to develop their craft shone like a blinding light this episode. Brandon in his Martin and Smitty scenes sounded like he was reading and the facial expressions were giving Disney Channel. He did much better against Maurice in the Martin v Ted scenes. Now, Teddd-dyy (Dana's voice) was just flat. I watched the episode just now after reading the comment on here that Maurice needs to stop swaying, and now I can't unsee it. Has it really been this bad all along?  Ambyr carries. I don't need to say anymore. I am kind of excited to see this Kat/Tomas/Eva stuff play out.  Bill is such a dick to Dani. Like that's the mother of your children that you cheated on with your daughter's best friend but you look to take those low blows. Lord! When he said that thing about it being obvious he didn't care about Dani anymore since he was the one that walked out...that was cold. I even felt for Dani. Bill definitely is all over the spectrum. You can see a villain possibly surfacing, but you also see this great father. The elder Duprees move a little funny. I'm wondering what that is all about. Are they just overly protective matriarch and patriarch because they think it's what's best for their family, or are they afraid their secrets will come out or there's something more sinister there. Why would Vernon want to keep that information from Martin?  I hope something interesting comes out of this June stuff, but as of right now, I'm not too invested. It's not helping my interest on Naomi or Jacob either. However, tge actress playing Naomi has comes a long way from day one.
