I would say it may have been because AW had never developed a popular younger generation the way GL did. Richard Bekins and Chris Rich were clearly popular, and Laura Malone too, but they didn't ever take off the way Beth/Rick/Mindy/Phillip/Lujack did, or, for an older group of characters, Alexandra and the Lewis family. That gave GL more cover with viewers, whereas AW just had, from about 79-83 or so, a never-ending sea of new families and characters, most of whom nobody cared about.

Yeah, from the looks of it, GL had a lot more to fall back on than AW did in that time period.

I guess the purging of the vets in the late 70s and early 80s was a P&G thing LOL.

If any of you were fans of Scott Bailey/Sandy, and you get Cinemax, then you may want to look for the "Femme Fatales" episode he was in a month or two ago. It's rerun a fair amount. It's not anything explicit but you can see more than you did of him on GL (and some use of a stethoscope that would probably shock Rick Bauer). The guy who played Manny on GH is also in it.

I have that somewhere, or used to. It's sad seeing that with Zaslow and Garrett. As awful as Rauch's era was for Holly I do wonder what his version of Roger/Holly would have been like.

May 1956 TV Radio Mirror. This was one of their award issues. James Lipton was runner up for most popular daytime actor, radio and TV (radio was won by Sandy Becker, TV by Terry O'Sullivan).

I wish some of Barbara Rodell's Leslie was available. I have read in more than one early 70's soap magazine that "thousands" of viewers wrote in angry letters when GL brought Lynne Adams back as Leslie. Rodell herself says this in one interview.

They also mention, in a July 1974 Daytime TV Stars, about unpopular stories wrapped up, that Leslie's trial for the murder of Stanley Norris was supposed to go on longer, but fans wrote in talking about how sick they were of the story, so it was quickly ended.

Ethel Remey played Elsie years before becoming Alma on ATWT. I think years later (in the 70's?) Bert got news that her mother had died.I wonder why, after years of ignoring the character, they decided to write in her death?

How did Zimmermann die? Was he still in the role when he passed? I've read his successor Anthony Call had huge success on other soaps after leaving GL.

BTW a few years ago Lynne Adams posted a very strange video of herself of her talking about her work and love of the arts while taking a shower and then walking around her house with just a towel on.

Is that video still around??

Zimmerman had a massive heart attack, I think. He was still on GL. He had also written a book and was doing theater work - I think he was on the road with a play when he died. It was a big shock. Then Theo Getz died only about 6 months later.

I looked for it but couldn't find it. It came out in 2006 or so and someone had posted it on the old WOST site. Hilariously strange.

That's a real shame about Zimmermann. How did th audience react? Was it as big as Chritopher Bernau's death in the middle of storyline?

    • It feels like the show hired Hank Northrop first and are still deciding what to do with him lol. I don't have a judgement on the character yet, but this non-story (so far) has been happening for at least a month and he's only made 2 appearances lol.
    • I know Anita mentioned that she no longer was investing in the trust, while Leslie had stated that the interest was multiplying at a decent rate... but I do have a feeling she'll wipe through the trust in a short amount of time with the amount of spending she's doing. The show always throws in tiny nuggets of foreshadowing and having Anita's remark and Eva warning her mother not to overdo the spending tells me that Leslie will be blowing through that money eventually.
    • I honestly don't care if Laura is friends with Sonny.  She's been friends with him for decades.  The way she goes about the friendship is stupid.   She has no sense of self-preservation or awareness about the optics of parading her friendship with Sonny around town.  She practically celebrates it.  There's no reason in the world she can't just keep the friendship low key and explain they share a grandchild and frame the relationship that way.  A lot of Laura's choices, like getting into a public fight with Dalton, just make her look silly and like a fairly incompetent mayor. Carly is another PC lady that's starting to look silly.  I know she's explained her plan a lot, but it's still stupid and moving at a glacial pace.  If Joss is 45 by the time her revenge plot unfolds, what's the point?  Just dump Brennen and move on please.
    • On that same note, it's astounding to have mobster Sonny in the same office with Mayor Laura chatting it up about their mutual grandson. Think about the reaction if John Gotti and Mayor Eric Adams had a friendship

?? I guess the Logic behind Sonny & Jason acceptance is like when i saw a documentary where FBI agents said they'd rather deal with the mafia than terrorists or cartels---they're the "lesser of 3 evils". Anyway I'm about 30 years late on this convo.
    • Im confused. Does Jessica know anything about June's relation to Tyrell? At the start of the episode, it seemed like June was gonna slip that he was her son but she caught herself but later in the episode she referred to him as "my boy" and Jessica had no reaction like that wasnt a surprise to her No, Anita was putting money in the account every 6 months but we werent told how much was in it when Leslie became a beneficiary. The show has set it up that it was multiplying based off the interest so that its really worth quite alot now. I dont buy it but thats what they've told us
    • What was the point in Lori's return as Mrs. Max Hollister? That little story never made much sense to me.  Were there plans for a permanent return? Or even a new family with her as the matriarch?
    • I guess it depends on your device.  I can watch CW shows via their website on my Windows PC.
    • Ooooo A Liam episode? I'll watch it later today. They sure are churning the daily episodes out early.
