April 10, 201411 yr Member Marland departed Guiding Light around September or October 1982. I think St. Croix happened during the summer. The writing shift was fairly noticeable, in my opinion anyway, especially when Pat Falken Smith launched that weird story of the house crashing into the Reardon's boarding house. I've been watching some Quint and Nola clips with my mother (who was a fan of theirs back in the day - not a big fan but she liked them - so it's been nice to see the clips with her), and I'm trying to figure out when Marland left exactly and when the writing shifted. Was it around St. Croix? Watching this clip is weird, because I don't remember Gracie ever being so aggressive toward Nola before (or toward anything). She says some pretty harsh things about Nola's patterns with men and about how untrustworthy Quint is. While I guess someone did need to say this, I wonder if it would have been said when Marland was there (or was this still him)? I mostly just remember, in the few clips I've seen of Gracie before this time, happily enabling Nola.
April 10, 201411 yr Member Very cool. Was that James Lipton in the scenes with Reverend Keeler, who couldn't seem to remember his lines? this aired 61 years ago today

April 28, 201411 yr Member Does anyone know whatever happened to Frank Beaty? The person who uploads mid-90's GL episodes knows him. I think he's an organic farmer now.
April 28, 201411 yr Member I think Beaty's breakdown while portraying Brent/Marion forced him out of the profession -- which is understandable, but also sad, since I think he did some very good work during that period (in spite of the horrendous writing).
