In honor of Search debuting this week 58 years ago,I thought I'd start an official thread for this sometime neglected soap,

Search seems to have a reputation as a failed soap based on the ratings and stories of the NBC years, but during it's CBS run was amazingly successful - throughout the 50's and 60's,always placing in the top 5 shows.

Let the memories and questions begin....

Shaffer did amazing work on Ryan's Hope, often with very messy writing, but she is totally miscast as Stephanie. They also dressed and styled her in the most unflattering of ways.

Those were some lovely episodes of SFT. Thanks for linking these!

Honestly the contrast between Maree Cheatham’s and Louise Shaffer’s portrayals of Stephanie are so stark. Cheatham plays Stephanie with such cunning yet still seeming human at the same time. From what I’ve seen of Shaffer’s Stephanie, she was just always way over the top with her portrayal, to the point where I sometimes cringe.

Always a pleasure to see young Lisa Peluso here. It would be amazing if there were any SFT episodes with her from 1977-82 that would emerge, so we could see just how much she progressed as she evolved into adulthood.

Lastly, who is this actress playing Suzy here? And how long was she on for?

I believe that was Elizabeth Swackhamer as Suzy. I'm not sure how long she played the role but it wasn't very long.

Cynthia Gibb appeared in one of the summer of 83 episodes i saw. Terri Eoff came on right before Christmas of 83. So i'm guessing Elizabeth Swackhamer was on maybe 3-4 months.

From what I can see, Louise Shaffer played Stephanie the same way that she played Rae Woodard on RH. I always thought that her portrayal of Rae was one-note.

I agree to a point. It seemed like Rae Woodard had indeed stepped into Henderson, but LS was blessed with much better writing on RH.

For any SFT historians out there, what happened to Janet Bergman? It's really hard to find any information on SFT

After Ted Adamson suddenly proposed (he needed money and Janet was wealthy) Janet wasn't sure she was ready to marry again, so she decided to take Danny to San Francisco to visit her son Gary and do some thinking. She never returned. This was mid 82 when Henderson was invaded by Warren, Kristin, Jenny, Keith etc.

Thank you.

Not being all too familiar with SFT’s history, I’m assuming the Janet being mentioned here is Liza’s mother? And from the surname, was she related to Stu in some way?

Also, what was Warren Carter’s backstory when he first came to Henderson?

Janet is Liza's mother and Stu's daughter. She was Janet Bergman Gardner Walton Collins.

Liza and Gary and Danny are her children by Dan Walton.

From BOTH OF ME:

”In April, the Bergmans’ daughter, Janet, returned from her long sojourn in Chicago, but she had changed. She was no longer tall and blonde, she was tall and brunette, and the part was being played by Millee Taggart  Janet was still married to Dr. Walton, but he had changed too.  He looked remarkably like a young sailor appearing on Broadway in ON THE TOWN, named Ron Husmann. Along the way, their little boy, Chuck, had been forgotten or lost all together, but then the Bergmans never did have much luck with small boys.  Janet did have two children who manage to survive all the moves.  Their names were Liza and Gary, and they arrived safely in Henderson, played by Kathy Beller and Tommy Norden.”

Dan Walton was dying of leukemia. Millee was pregnant in real life, and that pregnancy became Danny Walton.

Chuck was Janet’s son with Bud Gardner, and he was indeed forgotten, just as Stu and Marge’s son Jimmy had been forgotten for years until he became their nephew.
