July 5, 200916 yr Author Member Ugh...not being a Jackson fan, I'm more than a little bewildered by all the hoopla. The man was an entertainer, and this coverage is more in line with heads of state, not a man who was more than a little controversial in his later years. I would just rather have my CBS shows completely preempted, than get stuck with ten minutes on-air, and the option to watch it online. They are getting preempted PJ. None of the CBS shows will be shown. I agree with you about MJ. But as Errol said he is bringing in big numbers to CNN and other broadcast channels. Like has been said, Farrah's death has pretty much been ignored in favor of Michael's. Poor Farrah I agree Zendall Fan. I guess I am more pissed because she is a texas girl. I found it interesting that the stores not only had MJ CDs but Farrah's DVD on Charlie's Angles available. Most stores didnt even carry CA before Farrah's death.

Anything not to feed the coverage whores associated with marketing this "news". I can't wait for the endless commercials hawking this "once in a lifetime tribute" for $29.95.

I bet they will release those soon too with the video of him practicing for his upcoming tour. Edited July 5, 200916 yr by Ruxton Hills
July 5, 200916 yr Member Eh. Announcing the death is one thing, but the funeral is another. Why, exactly, are there 24-hour news networks? If the regular networks are just gonna air the news at any time they want to anyway?
July 5, 200916 yr Member Does anyone know if the Canadian stations are affected? (Is that the right one? I always mess that up.) Edited July 6, 200916 yr by Amello
July 6, 200916 yr Member Eh. Announcing the death is one thing, but the funeral is another. Why, exactly, are there 24-hour news networks? If the regular networks are just gonna air the news at any time they want to anyway? The news whores drive me NUTS. I have a story for you. In Kansas City, Joe Montana spent the last few years of his career with the Chiefs, and when that SOB announced his RETIREMENT, our local CBS affiliate interrupts Y&R with a news bulletin to announce this, at 11:45 AM!!! 15 MINUTES before the 12:00 newscast! If it was any old eppy of Y&R it would be one thing, but the VERY MOMENT they chose to interrupt the broadcast was when Crazy Veronica had Nikki in the stables, and was holding a gun on her. I thought my head would explode! Edited July 6, 200916 yr by alphanguy74
July 6, 200916 yr Member Btw..where was the live coverage of Farrah Fawcett's service? I know Michael was the King of Pop but not covering Farrah's service was kind of lame. She was just as big of a star. No, she wasn't. Michael Jackson was one of the top 10 most famous people in the world I'd wager.
July 6, 200916 yr Member No, she wasn't. Michael Jackson was one of the top 10 most famous people in the world I'd wager. Yeah, I don't think there is any comparison. That said I'm not interested in watching either memorial and if I were I'd do it on CNN.
July 6, 200916 yr Member Like has been said, Farrah's death has pretty much been ignored in favor of Michael's. Poor Farrah I don't think she's been ignored. I think people have talked about her life and her work, whereas with Michael Jackson, it's all tabloid all the time. In some way the timing helped shield some of the tabloid focus away from her passing and memorial service (like when Ryan O'Neal's oldest son showed up at the funeral and was barred from entering), which I'm glad for.
July 6, 200916 yr Member Errr Farah Fawcett is in no way near the status of Michael Jackson. That's insane. Michael Jackson deserves this. This is pretty huge people, the man is known worldwide. 30,000 people don't gather at Dundas Square (in Toronto, Canada) to celebrate the life of just any star. The man had his troubles, but his music brought so many different people together, and that alone is his greatest accomplishment. Edited July 6, 200916 yr by MTSRocks
July 6, 200916 yr Member Like has been said, Farrah's death has pretty much been ignored in favor of Michael's. Poor Farrah At least her family is being left alone. NBC did a secial look back at her life. and TVLand ran a special too, i think. Errr Farah Fawcett is in no way near the status of Michael Jackson. Thats debatable.
July 6, 200916 yr Member If it's pre-empted in US, it'll be pre-empted in Canada, so we can stay a day ahead.
July 6, 200916 yr Member NBC said Sunday it will cover the Micheal Jackson Memorial. Like Michael, Elvis had the same news coverage, except that there was only 3 networks and no internet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie6pxDkF-wg Edited July 6, 200916 yr by reallyhateskateonlost
