I posted in the DTS forum synopses from early 1975 and Liz appeared to be still quite a mess.

I think that's the scene in which Rachel was wearing pearls (or beads of some sort).  When Liz grabbed her, she also grabbed the beads, and broke the string.  So they rattled all over the floor.  It was wonderful and realistic, but I think it was actually a mistake.  I doubt Irene Dailey could have choreographed it so perfectly, had it been intentional.   Such a great scene!

 

I think Liz's emotional condition was the reason Jim and Mary invited her to go along on their vacation to St Croix in April, 1975.  That's the trip on which Mary died unexpectedly on the terrace.  All we saw was her broken glass of iced-tea on the floor next to her lounge chair.

Lemay would NEVER have gone for it, but a "Who Shot Rachel?" storyline with Aunt Liz, Alice and Iris among the prime suspects wouldn't have been a bad way to generate publicity/build the audience amid the one-hour expansion in '75.

You're right, Lemay would never have written a whodunit.  He didn't seem to mind writing murders, but never whodunits.  And only two of his murders had trials.  Both were extremely brief trials.

I don't believe so, although Russ Matthews had to give Rachel a good over-the-knee spanking once. (I was shocked that the scene was approved by the censors!)

They really didn't exchange punches in either of the scenes.  It was mostly just spiteful dialogue and some pushing and grabbing.  Still great stuff!

I liked that when Lemay briefly returned, he revived the tension between Liz and Rachel that had been mostly written off by this point.

Absolutely- when Liz ran her mouth to Matthew about how Rachel slept with Mitch to save Mac and Rachel killing Janice.  Good use of history.

That was mighty stiff competition in that category - Debbie Morgan, Martha Byrne, Robin Wright, and Jane Krakowsk. Perhaps the best line-up ever in the Younger Actress/Ingenue category. Compare those names to the actresses that made up the category in the late '00s or in the 2010s.

 

Wheeler was so beautiful but also appeared really awkward and shy.

I so wanted Robin Wright to win because she was just so beautiful and natural as Kelly. 
 

I totally respected Ellen Wheeler’s talent though, and as an AW fan, I was happy she won. 
 

But watching the clips again—Damn!  Give Jane Krakowski that Emmy!

You couldn't have gone wrong with any of those ladies winning. I too would have liked to see Robin Wright win at least once (I believe she was nominated three times for SB). She gave what was often a thankless role as Kelly Capwell real gravitas.

Debbi Morgan was under 25 then?  Angie was always old.
