Another World may only be #4 or #5 on the list of my all-time favorite soaps but, in my opinion, Another World 1964-1975 was soap opera at its best. You're welcome. I will post the 2nd part mostly dealing with Steve/Alice/Rachel but this is stuff I guess everybody already knows.
August 9, 20205 yr Member Ive never seen any of AW in the 90s so I was wondering if y’all could explain why they brought him back as a new character? Did they kill off Sam Fowler? It just seems weird that he played that role for 3 years and they brought him on as someone new.

Not sure why he was brought back to AW, but after RKK was fired from DAYS, I guess he moved back to NYC and landed the role. The rumor was that Alice Barrett was fired so that the show could pay his salary. The role of Sam was recast twice after RKK left. After he and Amanda remarried, it was discovered that Sam actually could sing. He became a singing star and when Amanda refused to accompany him on the road, they divorced. Sam was never seen again after that.

It was reported at the time, he said he would only return to the show, if he played a new character. He had no interest in playing Sam again. And for some reason, TPTB said yes.

August 13, 20205 yr Member I love when AW actors talk about how filming in Brooklyn was part of the reason why the cast was able to bond so well. I know the neighborhood where the studio was. It's safe but there is literally nothing do to and nowhere to go. There was a store around the corner from the studio and a pizzeria and that was about it. Actually, my mom swears to this day that some of the props that we saw onscreen were bought at that store. Edited August 13, 20205 yr by AbcNbc247
August 13, 20205 yr Member IT was interesting to hear Alice Barrett say that she was killed off to pay for Robert Kelker Kelly. Yet again a woman is killed off to make way for a man. Most of us knew this but to have it confirmed...just ugh. I also wonder who the actor is that Barrett, Coppola and Tucci didn't like. I think even Browne cosigned.
August 13, 20205 yr Member Does Alicia Coppola ever age? I saw a repeat of Law & Order: Criminal Intent that she was in just a few weeks back from S3, so 2003...and I swear the woman has not aged a day.

They pretty much had favorable things to say about everyone else. Also, I wonder what 18 month storyline had to be scrapped because of Douglass Watson's death? I'm sure it was a story that Donna Swajeski took from Harding Lemay's story projection.
August 13, 20205 yr Member I had heard in the past the focus group situation occurred with Alice Barrett as well...and if she hadn't had a story for a year..that could be why she scored low in a focus group...and the other possible contender for being killed off was Paulina (she scored slightly higher in the focus group than Frankie did). I think the Brooklyn location is why the AW cast were so close...plus anyone on ATWT in the last decade. It seems like Brooklyn was another world of it's own

But the story wasn't that well written. The original plan was for Donna to be killed off, but fan outrage is what saved her. And yes, Brooklyn, especially the neighborhood that the studio was located in, is definitely another world of its own.
