He's the most powerful player in the Senate now that Democrats control the house. He is the most Republican of all the Senate Democrats by far.

And here I thought he was just the world's greatest Joe Theismann impersonator.  ;)

Thanks, @Skin!  :)

I heard the 2022 map for Senate is very favorable to Democrats. They should do all they possibly can to pick up seats because 2024 is going to be rough

2016 was supposed to be favorable as well. Things tend to end up going haywire. They got a huge gift this year. I just hope they aren't going to blow it.

He's the 50th vote. If he votes no, they will have to rely on Republican votes. I don't remember how it works exactly, but I think they may even need 60 votes if he doesn't go along. They will be lucky to get 1 or 2 Republican votes at most - and that's generous.

His people are now trying to twist those knots, right on time:

"Relief targeted to those who've lost their job" is also pushed by old hacks like Larry Summers who helped Democrats lose the House by a wide margin in 2010. It's punishing to the millions of people who have not been fired, but are struggling badly to get by on what they have.

I just hope they do not go along with this, because it doesn't matter how many sensible editorials they get from NYT or New Republic - they will lose in 2022, people will not forget.

Larry Summers is a dead end. And my guess is these people saw the stock market drop after this news came out and are busy trying to justify what Manchin said.

They need to re-evaluate how they are providing relief( I refuse to call it stimulus) because it cannot be based on 2019 taxes  - that leaves out a lot of people that are hurting. I say send it to everyone and then reconcile it at tax time.

In other news:

Wow!

You know, I think the rot has gone too deep. The Republican party is beyond salvation. The decent Republicans (I'm sure there are some out there somewhere) would probably do better breaking free and starting a new party.

Kelli Ward, the lunatic who runs the Arizona Republican Party (and was best known for a crazed primary against John McCain that involved chemtrail conspiracies), tweeted on their account recently asking people whether they should stay with the GOP or start the "MAGA Party." So, that tells you where some of these people are heading.

More on this phenomenon here:

MSNBC and CNN are reporting that articles of impeachment have been released. that was quick.

I think Manchin will fold (his later statement already hints at that), or we'll get enough GOP votes. We'll get the checks, one way or another.

Meanwhile:
