Oh yeah, I definitely feel the threat is real.

I have friends and relatives in the Caribbean and oversees that want no part of visiting the U.S. at this time (consequently, tourism in the U.S. is way down from last year) because they believe war is a more than a distinct possibility, although they believe it likely will be a civil war within the U.S.

This country looks like an out and out disaster to people on the outside. TBH, it doesn't look very good from the inside either.

Yes. None of us really believe he's going to get us in a nuclear war, if we did we'd be getting out of Dodge no matter the cost.

I believe it. I think we will either bomb N. Korea or they will launch at us perhaps hitting Guam. This election showed me that nothing I took for granted about this country applies. We have a significant part of the population on both the right and left that simply wants to break shite and watch the world burn.

^ Right. I mean few people seem to think North Korea will launch a bomb that will hit where they are.  I see a lot of reporters/bloggers on twitter joking about it, but if they believed it they'd be reporting/blogging from Europe.

Except we are not just talking about North Korea. if we launch an attack it will ultimately involve China and possibly Russia. Lots of people in this country have the attitude out of sight out of mind. Many don't understand why so many in the Middle East hate us. I listen to my sister in law who thinks they hate us for our freedom. They have no clue that it's because the US has bombed so many countries there and have sold arms to countries like Saudi Arabia.

Anything could happen, but my point is a lot of people are in denial while pretending they aren't. I'm talking about people in the media.

The media treats it as a joke . They are worthless.

And now John Bolton interviewing for Sec of State. We'll be at war with North Korea and Iran

It's terrifying. What Vee just posted is unthinkable. Everyone in Congress knows we are being led by a madman but they won't act.

This is when someone of substance, ANYONE of substance, must declare him unfit and boot his war-mongering ass out.

Football was ruined a long time ago - it's a toxic, dangerous system that uses people and spits them out.

Wouldn't he have to be confirmed? I wonder if the Senate would do it at this point.

I guess he could just make Bolton a recess appointment.

After you said that I looked it up and it looks like we're down $2.7 billion.

I wonder if some of that will come back when people get numbed to Trump or if they will never come back.

I think a lot of people believed Trump would somehow calm down at some point but he just keeps going and going and going. The news cycle today means that if you do the same thing a lot and then pause the media and the public will move on to something else. That never happens with Trump because he's always finding something new to trample over.

We're on the cusp of nuclear war, but it seems like all folks care about is whether or not a bunch of football players stand for the national anthem.  So, you know, whatever happens to us, we had it coming.

It's insane. There are so many terrible things happening right now and people are still going on about this.  Hell, the fact that these players leave the game with serious brain damage almost down to a man is no problem. Taking a knee is the problem. It's infuriating.

Rand Paul may be my new  (temporary) hero.

Some reporter from the NYT was doing the media rounds today. He's been in North Korea recently and he was saying he thinks the threat is real. That's why it's feeling more real to me today I guess.

Was that Kristof? I read his column after I saw your post. Or maybe it was someone else who went with him. Kristof's piece is very disturbing.

Frightening. No understanding of history. I'm continually disturbed at how many balances we have for the executive branch. Lord if we had a functioning congress they might actually put some checks and balances back in place.  I still can't believe how quickly the United States has deteriorated.
