Members janea4old
Quoting the above debt-ceiling article: Brian Riedl, a policy analyst at the Manhattan Institute, studied prioritization plans at length while he was a staffer in the offices of then-Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio). Riedl said such a plan would involve lopping off about 20 percent of federal spending immediately, or about $1 trillion, because revenue covers only roughly 80 percent of the $5 trillion the government spends each year. Huge numbers of people could be hurt immediately, he said, with no good way to pick between options such as forcing hospitals to deal with the cessation of Medicare payments or depriving the Defense Department of funding. End article quote. --- My reply to that is ... you could tax the rich! The idea of stopping the increase of the national debt is a *THEORETICALLY* good idea, if the politicians actually cared about people. It used to be that the only good idea (in theory) about fiscally conservative politicians, is that they didn't want to saddle future generations with debt. But that was long ago (if it ever was true). Right now, there won't be Medicare or social services for those who are currently in their teens/twenties/thirties. It won't exist. No budget for it. And no budget to fix climate collapse, which ironically will lead to planetary economic collapse. Our youth will suffer. But the Republicans just don't want to tax corporations and themselves. So they want to cut that which is needed.
Members DRW50
LaSalle is likely another judge in the vein of those who struck down maps that would have helped Democrats keep the House. I can see now why many on the left don't care for Jeffries.

Members Juliajms
What are Jamie Raskin and Axios talking about?? I sure hope that subcommittee meeting was held a decade ago. It's been known for years that Exxon predicted climate change in the 70's. So what really? Are we expecting corporate America to regulate itself? Any politician acting that naive is a damn liar. The scandal, if there is one, is that the governments of the world have known about climate change for decades and have not responded appropriately. The force that could have slowed down climate change is the U.S government. An article about Exxon for 2015 and I don't even know if this is he first one. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/exxon-knew-about-climate-change-almost-40-years-ago/
Members DramatistDreamer
Have you seen this 2 part Frontline special? It was excellent in how thoroughly it presents how “Big Oil” essentially gaslit (pun intended) the public, using the paid research of scientists, academics and researchers. Some politicians also used this research to promote their political agendas. I am not sure whether PBS has these episodes behind the paywall (they have an annoying habit of doing this now, although educational videos tend to have a longer grace period for viewing) but it is definitely worth checking out. https://www.pbs.org/video/the-power-of-big-oil-part-one-denial-redxh6/

Members DramatistDreamer
It’s just become impossible to keep up and keep track of all the things. It’s not about shaming drag, it’s about someone who aligns himself with ultra conservative and right wingers who put laws in place to try to dehumanize people, including people who dress in drag. Do people not see the conflict?
