Yes. That was my first rant about him when the hearings first started. On July 27th, these four officers from the U.S. Capitol Police and D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department gave their harrowing testimony. On January 6, the officers' actions caused significant physical and mental harm. However, they asserted that Congress owes them the duty to hold those in authority who may have encouraged or abetted the revolt accountable. And THEY DO.

I think of the officer who was left bloodied and screaming for help as rioters chanted "heave ho!" and they continued to try and push their way through the entry, and I think of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died of natural causes the day after the riot on Jan. 6 after he suffered two strokes. I don't want to go further because it's going to get me heated, and I'm going to try to be civil.

This [!@#$%^&*]. Because of this selfish, self-seeking, narcissistic mother !@#$%^&*]. And all I remember the news reporters saying throughout the whole time of the insurrection, Trump was sitting in the dining room watching television for 2 hours. Well, that's certainly not the case. No. The DOJ needs to act immediately, but another (hopeful) part of me thinks that the House Committee are slowly starting to squeeze in.

God. So much is going on. This, reproductive rights, voting rights, inflation, war in the Ukraine, etc. I'm mentally exhausted. And pissed.

Something similar happened to an African-American teacher (or was he a Vice-Principal?) who was asked to remove photos of his wife, who is white, from SM. I think he was fired eventually, but the reason cited was parents upset that he was seen to be embracing a “Woke” curriculum.

More on the Supreme Court decision on the EPA:
via the Guardian:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jun/30/us-supreme-court-ruling-restricts-federal-power-greenhouse-gas-emissions

The U.S. Supreme Court just ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency does not have the authority to mandate carbon emissions from existing power plants.

The ruling could also have sweeping consequences for the federal government’s ability to set standards and regulate in other areas, such as clean air and water, consumer protections, banking, workplace safety and public health. It may prove a landmark moment in conservative ambitions to dismantle the “regulatory state”, stripping away protections from Americans across a wide range of areas.

The Supreme Court has sided with West Virginia, a major coal mining state, which argued that “unelected bureaucrats” at the EPA should not be allowed to reshape its economy by limiting pollution – even though emissions from coal are helping cause worsening flooding, heatwaves and droughts around the world, as well as killing millions of people through toxic air.

Comment from me:
The only workaround to save the environment is for congress and senate to agree on legislation to protect the planet. But Manchin hasn't cooperated because he's from a coal state. (and because he's horrible)

from the NPR link that @DramatistDreamer posted:
https://www.npr.org/2022/06/30/1103595898/supreme-court-epa-climate-change

Justice Elena Kagan, in a furious dissent, said essentially that the Court is making up new rules that contradict nearly a century of regulatory law. The text of the Clean Air Act, she said, clearly anticipates that the EPA will have to deal with new problems and uses broad language to allow that. The Court majority, she says, "does not have a clue about how to address climate change...yet it appoints itself, instead of congress or the expert agency...the decision-maker on climate policy. I cannot think of many things more frightening."

I feel dumb that I didn't make the connection between the Jan 6 committee talking about witness intimidation and the need for a previously unscheduled hearing with Cassidy Hutchinson.

I thought she was there to ferret out the testimony of White Counsel Pat Cipollone.  The committee wants him to speak, but he could have used the excuses of attorney/client privilege or executive privilege to recuse himself.  However, I thought Hutchinson's testimony was being used to provoke Cipollone to try to refute her account of what happened on Jan 6.

Now I see that they used her to demonstrate how Trumpworld is trying to intimidate witnesses and defer justice.  Obviously, after today's reporting, the images of text sent about "him thinking about you" were sent to Hutchinson.  While I find it distasteful that this young woman who worked for such political deviants as Ted Cruise and Mark Meadows is being hailed for bravery, I appreciate that she was willing to share the behind the scenes defiance of legal authority that continues in Trumpworld to this day.  I just wonder why they didn't ask her directly about any messages that she's received from the former president's staff?

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.
