^ That is terrifying. I feel like the Biden presidency is a little dinghy and we are surrounded by sharks waiting for their chance.

I've spent the last six months quietly celebrating a return to normal, but I'm coming back to reality now. I watched that Q documentary on HBO which was really disturbing. I'd say at best we have a 50/50 chance of beating these nuts back.

Sadly, the likes of Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney and now Rep. Anthony Gonzalez of my very own Ohio who refuse to be cowed by T**** and his ilk are few and far between. I am completely appalled that these sheep follow his every command when he would sell each and every one of them out in a second. Do they really think we don't see what they're doing?

Even political pundits who love to be contrarian and downplay serious concerns, like Nate Silver, Matthew Yglesias, and Dave Wasserman, are now openly saying things like if something doesn't change, democracy is likely finished and if a Democrat does win in 2024, the results will not be certified.

Manchin, Sinema, Warner, Feinstein just don't give a damn about the reforms needed to safeguard democracy. And unless that changes, then we're well and truly screwed.

And the leftists who spend their time berating Breyer to retire (as if he is going to listen or care) are just distracting from the point.

I make no judgements in the NYC mayoral race as I no longer reside/vote in NYC but people like Wesley, a NYC transplant likely underestimate how well known Adams is among older Blacks, blue collar union people and those outside of Manhattan. He has made some missteps and definitely been associated with problematic people (which, since Trump's election, doesn't seem to be as damaging to reputation as it once would've been) but he is also known as the man who talked about police brutality issues and started the 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care over 20 years ago (which didn't endear him to the white police in NY). Whether media analyzes that as self-serving or not, people remember because he was out in front of this issue, speaking at community events and platforms and people remember.

Like I said before, it will be interesting to see where this all lands, especially since NYC will be engaging in ranked choice voting for the first time.

I think Biden is being very vocal tbh - saying all the right things. A lot of populist lines. I think he acts like they have the majority. Schumer could always be doing more. But do I think they're going to do nothing or that we're screwed, no. That depends on a lot of things. It's easy to spend all one's time on doomspiraling Political Twitter and think it's the real world, and generally it is not - it is always trafficking in hyperbole and high emotions and high-voltage statements. This is definitely an urgent moment and a lot needs to be done, that much is clear. But do I think Manchin and Sinema won't ever budge and hold all the power and we're fùcked: No.

Meanwhile, a thread:

Aww, Bo.

That post by Mrs. Obama got me.

It can become a tangled mess if the Biden administration gets too caught up in tit for tat with the GOP, which is likely exactly what they want.

POTUS and VP need to focus on their agenda. This is not the Trump years... people expect actual legislation to be passed, not just parting shots and insulting twitter posts.

If anyone needs to be speaking up more, it's the Democrats in states where the GOP's lies seem to be having impact.

Yes, there are likely going to be times when Biden-Harris could feel compelled to speak but their first job is to address the many issues at hand that, if not dealt with, could have a lot more impact than loose cannons trying to inflame some people on Facebook and Twitter.

Ugh I am so tired of people like Nate Silver and Matty Yglesias. We'd all be better off if we didn't listen to them along with Nate Cohn. Just a few weeks back they were lecturing everyone on how these voting laws being passed across the country were not really bad. I mean these are the people we need to stop giving attention to. They by no means are anyone I would consider an ally to democracy particularly after their behavior over the last 10 years. And NOW they want the democrats to fix everything. Maybe these fools should look in the mirror. Anyway I see Nate Silver and Wasserman have moved onto COVID analysis and telling us all the reasons the jobs report released yesterday didn't hit expectations. Wasserman had the nerve to tweet that stmt out from the US Chamber of Commerce stating that benefits are too high. He ended up deleting it due to the ratio.

The situation is serious, no doubt and it's OUR JOB as citizens to continue to put pressure on our own legislators. Volunteer in a group that is already prepping for 2022. I'm sending out letters to people in swing and red states about voting and making sure people know what's on the line.  I also joined the Poor Peoples Campaign where there are initiatives you can get involved in. Rev Barber is amazing and the work they are doing is fabulous.  THey also have a 50 STATE STRATEGY. Sound familiar.

True story - this morning as I drove to church, I spotted the license plate of a car going the other way. It read "TRUMP D". I wanted to pull over somewhere and hurl. Never, ever will I understand why people choose to ally themselves to that monster. Never, ever, ever.

    • Brooke was a commercial mainstay back in the day.. she probably made more money and treated better doing that then how she was sort of treated by the show during her time on the show. Ironically.. Kelly was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs

    • I am probably veering more toward the classic thread, but I felt like her original run had her more as a moral voice for the Quartermaines than was needed (I thought her connections with Sonny and Brenda made more sense).  Sonny, Carly and Jason are all suffering the consequences of being too prominent for too long. They are above any relationships due being unable to form human connections. I do still wonder just what their original plans were for Jason this time, if they even had any.
    • Perhaps Lujack/Beth should have been the other couple involved in that location story with Tony/Annabelle instead of Claire/Fletcher or Jim.   Since Lujack was a Spaulding, the whole fallout could have caused him to further distance himself from having anything to do with Spaulding and Alexandra and as a result, pushes Beth away and potentially back in Phillip's direction. Out of the three Pam Long major mystery/action stories in her first stint.. the fishing mystery story was probably the best... although I did kind of enjoy parts of Infinity and the cabin mystery stories as well.
    • I’m now realizing all of Nick and Sharon’s screen time last month all revolved around Phyllis and then they took a “trip” to visit Noah and still haven’t been back? That’s super lame. They should be involved in a lot more and COULD be, especially where any of the Newmans are concerned (Sharon in particular, since I don’t care much for Nick unless he is in the presence of Sharon).
    • Now, you are just not being grateful for the right things!!! There was not even ONE Elvis on velvet!!!! I want to say how magnificent I think it was that we are so unified in our condemnation of the show giving little Ally to Sam & Amanda, so quickly & relatively young & so newly married. Paul, here, I love your description of a different couple that they could have been.  Xanthe, I similarly love your suggestion here, a GREAT one, of how if they simply MUST do the bambino thing how they could have made it better by giving Amanda a very realistic struggle with becoming a mom, etc.    So, I'm sorry that most of us would put Sandra Feguson/Robinson smack in the middle of any pack, as average, but it's nice that some of us saw more, substance, when we got to Brunette Amanda!!  FAST FUN FACT, gleaned from a Locher room: Tucci is not only lucky enough to be Stanley Tucci's baby sister but she & Lorna #1, Alicia Coppola are besties & godparents to each others kiddos & talk on the phone every day.
    • Sharina?  @alwaysAMC I am glad you've kept writing about the Brent story all the way through. I think that Beaty may have had to briefly leave again, rather than scenes being aired out of sequence, but I'm not sure.  You are right that the reveals of Brent's various reasons for being what he was bog down the end of the story a bit, although based on what is to come in 1996 I still kind of wish Beaty had stayed another year.  I'd forgotten J and Michelle were tied to the end of the story. This J is generally just gross. I don't really remember much of anyone caring about Nadine dying outside of her family. The worst part was Frank just giving a rose and saying it was from Harley, which made me very mad at the time. I am not sure if Beth Ehlers was asked to return and declined. Luckily this is addressed when she does return.   I felt like it was one of those stories that was done via mandate - trying to keep the ratings gains they had, via more location shoots, more adventures, more secrets, etc. Tony, Annabelle and Jim were thrown in as they were meant to be important to the show at the time.
    • April 28: Leslie tells Eva "I know all about the Articulettes. Honey, please. I lost my virginity with Anita playing in the background, baby." Who knows what she meant by that.  I had assumed that it meant that the music was playing on a device in the background, and not live, but who knows. Leslie has spun so many tales.
    • I enjoyed Sally's story from her engagement to Peter all the way through to right before Majorca, so I would have a hard time giving that up for the sake of trying to make Amanda and Sam theoretically better. I thought the escalation of Sally's troubles from Donna's interference, secret love child, engagement to David for the wrong reasons, falling for Catlin, jilting David, trying to take Kevin from David leading to David's murder and Catlin's absolutely stupid confession to take the blame for her, and then Catlin's trial and aftermath all kept the story moving in directions you wouldn't necessarily expect but all made sense.  Full disclosure: I don't really care for location shoots on soaps where most of the time outdoor scenes are clearly in studio. It feels weird to see the cast in natural light under real trees and sometimes the destination doesn't make any sense. And although obviously it was good to get a resolution to the murder mystery and get Catlin off death row (probably too harsh a sentence for the crime), the motive and the criminal were not very satisfying. Even though she had started dating Peter, Emily Benson still had minor character written all over her. But also the transition into a lower key daily life, the introduction of Brittany and the recasting of Sally were all less effective. Catlin was limited to occasional private detection work and being protective of Brittany, but he didn't have much else to do once Blaine and Larry had left. (He should at least have been dealing with raising Kevin but Kevin and Liz had also been written out. He could have interacted with Donna more over Brittany but his fling with Donna was mostly ignored once Sally was gone.)
    • This. I'm also reminded of something from the old Cinema de Merde website, something I've tried to carry with me. "(paraphrased) We will not let our dislike for a movie impede our efforts to engage with it."
    • I just edited a DAYS episode 8-27-90 with Eve, Nick, Julie, John, Izzy, Victor, Bo, Carly, some young guy named Chad, Johnny Corelli, business men/thugs from a movie that is going to be made & from a construction company, little kid friend of ShawnD's, ShawnD although he is at the bottom of a long narrow hole & is either asleep or unconscious. Full closing credits with voiceover: Next on Another World: Vicky, posing as Marley, will she be able to fool Jamie? Then, on Santa Barbara something about Mack & Gretchen, whoever they are.
