I don't want to leave out the Afrikaner Resistance Movement (aka South Africa's Neo-Nazi movement which doesn't just support apartheid but the exile and killing of blacks, Jews, non-pure blood Afrikaners, and immigrants). Their delightful leaders Dan Roodt and Steyn Von Ronge have issued a glowing celebratory statement of Trump's win and how thrilled they are to have such a powerful ally in their "movement". Maybe they can share with him their tactics of beating people to death with bats, bombing homes of people they consider less than, and siccing packs of wild dogs on groups of people or maybe their symbol which is a swastika.

Geert Wilders has promised a "patriotic spring" and worldwide revolution and uprising for their movement (or as we call it- a white power Nazi movement). Pauline Hanson and George Christensen can't hide their delight. The joy of the Le Pen family, Putin, North Korea, Iran, and the Philippines is well documented.

Since Trump or any of his supporters have yet to denounce these people and have even invited the younger Le Pen in their fold, I can only assume they agree with and accept their support. Maybe they can call appear at the rallies he plans on going to have (also a moment to remember what other fascist leader continued to hold rallies after his rise to power).

What wonderful days await all of us with Trump and his minions in charge of the most powerful country in the world and with white supremacists and nationalists worldwide galvanised and validated.

It's chicken and the egg - a lot of these things have been building in Europe for years. Honestly I do think that Europe did a terrible job handling the migrant crisis and immigration in recent years - it sounds like Merkel was in way over her head about how to handle things in Germany. It hasn't been that bad over here, which is what makes knowing that vulnerable people are going to be banned, humiliated, and dehumanized for their skin color all the more disgusting.

Pardon the intrusion, as I'm not sure where else I could possibly express this that anyone would begin to understand the connection...and I gather that this post would be deleted anywhere else on this site.  Reading news today that former head writer Claire Labine has passed — after not thinking about our old soaps in days — was kind of the exclamation point (at least, I sure hope it wasn't another comma) at the end of a truly miserable week.  My 16 year-old self would be crying out in horror, "Sweet jesus, not Claire!" upon learning that the writer who brought us the stories and characters that she did is no longer with us just after Donald Trump was elected president.  My allegedly grown-up self isn't taking all of this too much better.

Watching Ryan's Hope in reruns on SoapNet as a young adult after I'd all but given up on the soaps that were on the air at the time brought me some welcome escape in those early years of the Bush administration.  It was a small comfort, but this news quite viscerally took me back to those dark days.  I hope it's not presumptuous (Ms. Labine did make her political persuasions fairly explicit in the press, and I think they were somewhat implicit in much of her writing) to say that I hope she was able to cast a ballot this week.  I'd just rather not think about this strong, intelligent, trailblazing woman presumably(?) learning about the outcome of this election in what would be her final days, though.

As I posted in the main thread about this news, RIP.

Trump needs to make a statement asking his supporters to stop the violence. Not that I think he has control over what he's unleashed, but the very least he could do is try.

Disgusting.

A few days ago I heard some people talking about how they wanted to go back to the "good old days" in dealing with these protesters (you can guess what that means). People are emboldened into violence and hate, and nothing is in place now to stop them. It's sad that the protesters are the ones who have the onus put on them, who are expected to hide. It reinforces just how little place in America many are expected to have.

He could, and he should, but he won't.

The part of this that annoys me most is all those who roll their eyes at the protestors, laugh at them and tell them to "grow up."  First of all, weren't some of you prepared to mount another Ruby Ridge if Hillary had won the electoral vote?  Second, even if what the protestors are doing is ridiculous, belitting their need to express themselves in this manner isn't smart.  As a matter of fact, it escalates their anger.

    • There are so many beats that could be played with relationships and history b/w  characters. But cast/set restrictions (and loust writing) are destroying that. Really liked seeing Jack and Nikki catch up. Trouble is, in the current version of Y&R it had to continue the entire episode. Hearing Lily talk on the phone to Maddie-how much better if we had actually seen the kids during Cane's return. Would the original actors return for a short stint? Maybe not and perhaps they don't feel a recast would work. All of this could have been avoided by letting BF be a new character. For the amount of difference it's made , there was really no need to bring back Cane.
    • Zeman said Marland created Barbara Jean Spencer, they called her Barbara until she and Monty decided Bobbie would be better as a nickname. It was almost Barbie IIRC, and they didn’t think that was right. She also has said on more than one occasion that she came in during the transition and Monty didn’t hire her, but ended up liking her. So Scotty and his friend must have been talking about her. This episode was fascinating. I am so happy it was shared. I can absolutely see why the show was in trouble. It’s lifeless and old fashioned as far as dialogue and some of the staging. Monty herself said she threw those episodes out, so that makes me think they were even worse. Which really made sense to me watching this because I only saw a glimpse of Monty in the less static scene with Rick moving all around while talking to David and the same type of staging with Scotty, Laura, and his friend’s name I cannot remember right now. That long ass scene through Monica’s eyes was very old fashioned as far as style. I can also see why the ratings started rising relatively quickly. Most of the earliest Monty shows I have seen are a few months later, and the show is very different. It moves, the characters are more intense, the staging has movement, and it feels more modern for the time. By the time you get to 1979 it’s really rocking and I totally get it in a way I didn’t before just from seeing this. Genie was so young to play that story with creepy Hamilton. And Kin sure was cute as nice guy Scotty.
    • Kate previously shadow directed or directed some scenes? on Days before GH, so it's been a passion of hers for a bit.
    • Who is monitoring her spending? Maybe the upshot is that Leslie is spending way beyond her means and she'll end up broke again. The house will be repossessed etc, Part of her comeuppance.
    • Kimberly McCullough shadowed at GH and completed an ABC directing program, but I don’t believe she was ever credited as director or given an episode of her own to do. One of the reasons why she got work so quickly was because she had multi-cam knowledge from years on soaps.
    • Do not apologize for this. I was thinking just today it's bringing me fond memories of when I was a teen of Angie and Jessie. Jenny and Greg, Philip and Beth. And although they were teens, Steve and Betsy.  I like a good teen story.
    • Yeah Suzanne mentions Y&R here  (no spoilers in the article) https://www.tvinsider.com/1227485/days-of-our-lives-suzanne-rogers-anniversary-maggie-storylines-mickey-victor/
    • I wonder if she may be transitioning to behind the scenes.  How many GH actors have also directed while acting on the show?
    • Despite my wish that Ric get revenge on Alexis and the gang, I really enjoyed their scenes today. RH and NLG have honestly never lost their chemistry with one another. Seems like Carly genuinely let herself give into Brennan today and regret it. Also just cause I smoked earlier it, it randomly hit me for the first time in over a decade. They had Michael murder Claudia played by the actress that played all of the most important early Michael stories. Kinda twisted lol
