AMC: Will Pratt Make It Better or at least Watchable?

Charles ("Chuckie") Pratt is taking over as headwriter on AMC, and veteran soap critic Marlena De Lacroix is hoping he'll write a show which is more intelligent and seriously entertaining. Like the classic Nixon-ian soap was until McTavish came back in 96/97! She finds a lot of a really good actors for Pratt to work with on the show including, a incomparable male cast and some great female talents too. There's a lot of veteran AMC fans who want to go "home" to Pine Valley. Are you one?

Melrose Place is my all-time favorite nighttime soap, and Charles Pratt was a big part of that. Hearing that he was coming to AMC is why I started watching the show a couple months ago. The past few weeks that his material has started airing, there has been a noticeable difference. The dialogue is much more catty and fun (like MP always was!!). The episodes are quicker paced and I have been a long-time fan of OLTL, but AMC lately has been better to watch! I think Mr. Pratt will get this show back on track and make it the fun escapism that daytime is suppose to be (unlike the constant murder/explosions/mayhem on GH).

I thought he was an AWFUL fit (Melrose can be fun but it's very different from a Nixon style daytime soap) and I have to admit so far I'm eating my words. My one real prob is I'd liek a bit more sense of family again--families with many generations--but this isn't all his fault. So far he actually has brought back some of the4 tone of the old AMC I missed (funny fantasy segments, odd yet brilliant matching of characters like Petey and Annie, social issues, humour etc)

I really wish Lorraine Broderick was brought on at least as a consultant. She was like Nixon's Kay Alden. She knew AMC inside and out and wrote such character based storyline. I miss her writing for AMC. I think Pratt is doing alot better then B/E but you need that Broderick touch to really pull AMC up. AMC when Felicia Behr was executive producer was the number 2 daytime soap. AMC needs some big time help.

AGreed 100%. I';ve heard that she was approahced and turned it down--and also heard gossip that part of the reason was she didn't wanna work under Frons.

I remember AMC was always number two when I started watching in 91 and then one day, maybe in 95 or 96 suddenly it dropped down--Iw as shocked (ratings weren't as consistantly strong under Broderick but I don't blame her).

I have always liked Pratt.. From Melrose place to General hospital. He seems like a good fit for AMC so far.

and also heard gossip that part of the reason was she didn't wanna work under Frons.

Well weather it's true or not Frons still has to leave. :)

Pratt's doing a good job so far. True, we all thought that about B&E, but they came in with a big event that boosted the show for two weeks. Pratt came in and is making subtle changes -- really working on the STRUCTURE of the show, building the show back up slowly. I'd be more alarmed if Pratt came in and instantly did his tornado stunt, for example. At least we know he's more concerned with building up the stories & characters first before pulling the big events.

    • She did have a thing with him in the late '90s, before she inexplicably disappeared with no mention as to why, although I can't remember if they had sex.
    • I don't believe she did. She did sleep with Simon, believing he was a Spaulding.
    • -- If I ever get sick, please don't send me to Garland Memorial. That hospital is a YIKES. -- Soooo much activity around the main nurses' desk. Do they move dead people on a gurney past that desk, too? -- 8 months for Bill to recover from a "small stroke"? Uh....I don't think so. Is anyone researching this stuff? The hospital stuff is not coming off as realistic. -- It's good that Derek and Ashley are being integrated into other stories, but it's a real stretch to say Leslie was "stalking" Ashley. It makes Derek seem dumber than we already think he is. -- Ashley spends a lot of time having small talk while she's at work. -- Chelsea is embarrassing. Period. -- Tomas is supposed to pick up the slack for Bill, but he has time to have worthless conversations with Leslie? OK then. -- Kat is destroying the case against Leslie, but that's clearly the way to keep Leslie on the canvas.
    • 6-3   I almost let my system just delete the episode just like with B&B. I am now questioning if I should have. lol.   I just can't believe that Cole sat there and started to get sick and then only Victoria off and ran off and everyone basically went back to what they were doing at Nikki's birthday party. Cole was too much of a vet character for that. And now story back off-screen.   I did chuckle at how much Victor pay Kyle dust. And now Kyle with this deal and a promise to leave town if he hurts Claire. smh. As if Victor isn't going to make that happen.   It was lovely to see Ashley. And actually (misdressed and all) Abby.    And I liked Claire's dress.
    • Oh. That. I pretend that never happened.

I did think of another possibility. Did India ever sleep with Alan? They kind of toyed with pairing them up, but I'm not sure they ever became lovers.
    • While I do love the chaotic energy that is Kat vs Lesile, it is a bit extra. Sheltered, virginal Kat who plays it safe from her man to her wardrobe understands that Leslie is dangerous, but she's out here showing up everywhere and anywhere that Lesile is to be found and actively going to places where she is alone? I mean Kat doesn't even act a little afraid or intimidated by Leslie. Meanwhile, big Ole Derek out here begging for his and Ashley's life to Jacob.  As for Dani, I didn't see it that way. Dani and Bill were together for 30 years and shared a family. I believe there was real love there at one point. Bill is still an ass and Dani is still crazy, but realizing she may lose him and her daughter's may lose their dad definitely struck a chord.
    • Funny I randomly saw Kami’s lengthy post about the 44th anniversary of the Walton’s finale last week pop up in my news feed on Facebook. A few inaccuracies to her post but overall it was pretty insightful and interesting to read.
    • Well, depending on rewrites...Jennifer Richards potentially slept with Brandon and Alan. It does feel like we're forgetting someone, but then again, maybe I'm confusing that with brothers, which would include a lot more.
    • Maybe it’s me, and the fact that RC isn’t at the helm, but since Cwikly and Ford have taken over I’ve noticed the show doing a lot of things differently directing wise, and since the storyline of John’s demise began, the show has been using different scores, and dare I say better ones than this time last year. It’s interesting and I wonder if the any of it is Noel Maxam’s influence before being promoted.
    • I think Nicole is about to figure out what's going on between Andre and Dani.
