GL

~ I love Ashlee and Caitlin Van Zandt. Under better writers, producers, etc, and during a better era of the show, I think she would have been much more universally liked.

~ I like Beth Ehlers and Ricky Paull Goldin, but Gus and Harley's absence from the show is not that big of a deal. Plus, I'm not looking forward to them reuniting in Pine Valley.

~ Kim Zimmer is wonderful, and everything that everyone else hates about Reva is exactly why I love her.

~ Nancy St. Alban wasn't horrible.

~ I loved Scott Bailey and the character of Sandy Foster.

~ Tom Pelphrey is incredibly overrated and I'll be just fine with him never appearing on the show ever again. AM I YOUR SON NOW REVA?!!??! DO I LOOK LIKE YOUR SON NOW?!?!?!?!?!?!?

~ I loved the "Life Savers" opening sequence from 02-03.

~ Dinah is annoying as hell.

GH

~ Most of the women on this show are interchangeable and I honestly couldn't tell most of the men apart either if I closed my eyes.

~ I don't give a damn if the show has good directing and good acting. If it sucks, it does NOT deserve to win the Best Drama Emmy!

~ Gloria Monty is at fault for much of what's wrong with daytime today.

~ Action/adventure storylines with spies and such are horrible and ridiculous.

~ Spinelli is the most irritating character on soaps today and Bradford Anderson is an annoying actor.

~ Genie Francis can do whatever the [!@#$%^&*] she wants to.

Y&R

~ Y&R does Y&R very well but no, even when Y&R was at its very best, none of the other shows should have copied it (look what copying GH did).

~ Christian LeBlanc is great.

~ Jess Walton is boring and I'd love Jill if Brenda played her again.

~ The "Terrible Tom" storyline was overrated, as was Cassie's death.

~ Doug Davidson is more talented than Peter Bergman and should be getting his screen time.

~ I love Lauralee Bell and anxiously await the day Christine returns full time.

~ I loved the porno opening's music.

~ The show's original premise with the Brooks and the Fosters is more interesting than the corporate intrigue with the Newmans, Abbotts, etc. Granted, I love Y&R as it is (well...not as it currently is, but you know what I mean...), but I have to wonder what it would look like without Newmans or Abbotts (or with fewer of them).

~ Tonya Lee Williams was one of the most talented actresses on the show, as were Beth Maitland and Tricia Cast.

OLTL

~ Kristen Alderson has only very recently become a good, to-be-taken-seriously actress.

~ Brandon Buddy isn't horrible.

~ *sigh* John Brotherton has talent.

~ Erika Slezak is amazing. But she's not THE best.

~ I wish Ron Carlivati cared about 70s-style OLTL as much as he does about 80s-style OLTL.

~ I hate the show's fondness of creating long lost children for female characters...that's one of the most unrealistic and unbelievable plot devices I've ever seen in soaps. As such, I'll never understand how Viki can look at Natalie the same way she looks at Jess or how Dorian can look at Adriana the same way she looks at Cassie (who, of course, was another case of long-lost daughter).

~ I could never buy Joey Buchanan with a woman...ever.

~ The dialogue isn't horrible. Some people call it stilted, yet some people call it high school-ish. It can't be both at the same time.

~ Adventure storylines with mythical countries and jewels and the sort don't interest me much at all.

B&B

~ I love the Forresters and the Logans, but another core, long-term family should have been introduced years and years and years ago.

~ John McCook isn't the worst thing in the world.

~ Hunter Tylo doesn't look THAT bad! I've seen worse.

~ B&B's SORASing is horrible, and it'll always be hard for me to see Bridget and Rick, characters who were originally younger than me, as adult characters with adult lives in adult storylines.

~ Katherine Kelly Lang is fabulous.

DAYS

~ I can't stand the "Big 4" and would not complain if they all disappeared today. Send Roman and Abe with them.

~ Lauren Koslow can act circles around Deidre Hall.

~ Sami is no longer cute.

~ I hate the self-righteous Bradys very, very much.

~ Stefano is played out to the zillionth degree.

~ It's hard for me to take this show seriously at all after the possession and Melaswen. No soap should have two storylines as ridiculous as those.

~ I've never watched JER's 90s DAYS and never intend to.

~ Supercouples are horrible.

~ Bonnie Lockhart was fun and much more interesting than Adrienne.

~ Jay Kenneth Johnson bugs me.

General

~ A small, controlled domestic storyline about something as simple as adultery will probably always be more interesting to me than anything involving adventures, jewels, mythical countries, spies, cages, caves, islands, etc.

~ Sci-fi has a place in daytime, but not on shows that were created without it.

~ I don't consider shows like "Coronation Street" and "EastEnders" to be counterparts of what we consider to be soap operas in the US. There far too many major differences in everything about the two types of soaps to compare them as if they're similar.

~ There's no need to adopt primetime-ish visual qualities (going to film, doing single camera set-ups, etc.) at all.

~ Cartoonish, blame-everything-on-them, evil(!!!!!) villains are ridiculous.

~ Every age range, including teens, should be a major part of a show's canvas.

~ Most, if not all, soaps would benefit if they went back to thirty minutes instead of sixty.

~ Soap operas are infinitely more enjoyable if you don't have the Internet and have no idea whatsoever who writes what, who wrote what, who directs what, who produces what, etc.

Tell it!

Ooooh, I agree. I've always noticed a difference in her hair and skin tone, but "ethnic" never hit me as the right word, but it really is. All one has to do is watch Tom and Erica's wedding on YouTube and see that she looks darker, more Italian, and without a doubt sexxxy. Karen Gorney had the same look going on.

I think the Aidan character has/had potential, but I totally agree. It's easy to forget that he's still on the show at times.

That's another thing that bugs me. Most people who are pushing 90 years old are enjoying retirement and life with their family and friends. I am close too 100% positive that James and Eileen would rather do that than work everyday all day. Granted, I'd like to see them a little bit more, but at the same time, I'm not exactly wanting to see this epic Palmer/Opal/anybody triangle going on either, especially considering that James is about 30 years older than Jill Larson.

B&B

Brooke is as important and unrecastable as Stephanie. In the reverse: Stephanie is as important an unrecastable as Brooke.

I seriously wish that they would give Stephanie as lesbian romance. It would be an interesting change of pace. It would allow Susan Flannery to do something different again. The whole maturity angle could easily be what makes it interesting.

Owen does nothing for me.

Back for more

Y&R:

I think Emily O'Brien is adorable and I didn't mind that she got an Emmy nod

I like CK and I like Cane&Lily (alright, I'll go hide now  )

I think Michael Graziadei is underrated

LML's reign was not that bad

I want Heather Tom back as Victoria Newman

I don't like JT and Victoria together

Phick are starting to bore me & I really want Nick back with Sharon

I hate this Useless Style mess. Is that unpopular?

GH:

The Z's are more entertaining than any other family on the show right now. Guza should add more family members.

Johnny and Lulu have no chemistry...AT ALL

Jason is a better mob boss than Sonny

I am probably the only non-Liason fan who really wants them to be a family already

I'll be back with more soon ;)

I only started liking Nicole Walker udner Cwikly and Brash, and that was the only time I have liked Nicole.

Anthony Geary isn't all that great, at least currently.

I'm not excited about Genie Francis/Laura's return to GH, because it'll be the same ole stunt as before, used to garner the show another Emmy, and quite frankly I've given up on GH.

Millee Taggart's time on GL was saved by the arrival of Carolyn Culliton.

I still don't think the decision to have Bianca being raped by Michael Cambias was a bad one. It was riveting drama for me as a viewer, and for the first time I was wowed by the performance of those involved. Maybe it's because I started watching AMC in 1998/1999, but ever since I had started watching AMC I was never actually into the show until that point. I think this was McTavish's strongest story when she first started, and I believe her tenure on AMC started off pretty well, but ended pretty badly.

Richard Culliton's tenure on AMC was highly underrated. Anna Teresa Cascio's, wasn't that bad, nor that good.

Up until I started watching Y&R videos on YouTube, I never thought Y&R was that good of a show in the past. Now I've seen the light :).

I think Nancy Curlee's tenure on GL started off pretty uneventful and quite boring, until around 92/93 things really got interesting. Gasp...could it have been JFP's arrival?

Pamela K. Long hurt and helped GL (as many of the writers of the 80s i.e. Gloria Monty). Taking in consideration of Long's other tenures on soaps, she's not that great, but not that bad either.

This might be a popular opinion now for GL fans, but I long for the days of Paul Rauch, esp his final months on the show.

AW rocked under Margaret DePriest in the mid 80s. M.J. McKinnon, etc, etc. I'd say some of her tenure even outshined Donna Swajeski's.

Marcy Rylan is the best thing to happen to the role of Lizzie Spaulding since Hayden P., though her voice does get on my nerve sometimes.

GL: I didn't think the possibility of a "Shayne Lewis coming out of the closet" storyline would have been that good of a decision, probably because I've always seen Shayne becoming like his father in the early 80s, somewhat of a villian while also involved in a love/hate relationship with Lizzie. Ah but DK has already done this, but with Bill and Lizzie.

OLTL- I have never liked Nora or Todd. I hope they never reunite Bo & Nora. Couldn't care less about Marty no matter who's playing her. I find Dorian tiresome most of the time. I can take David Vickers only in small doses. I like Natalie better than Jessica. I neither loved nor hated Natalie/John but I love Natalie/Jared.

AMC/PC- I dislike(d) Thorsten Kaye's uber-presence on those shows and the way he was inserted in so many storylines.

GH- I have never in 30 years liked Tracy Quartermaine nor has JE ever appealed to me. Tony Geary, good an actor as I think he is, seems to me to be going through the motions for the most part at this point. I can't tell if it's Luke that's weary or TG. And Luke/Tracy...ick. Also couldn't care less about the Cassadines (and I saw the original 1980s contingent so I know the history).

GH:

- I have intense dislike for certain actors only because of their fanbases

- Nancy Grahan is amazing, but Alexis is a pathetic character

- Kelly Monaco should never have come to GH as Sam (only as Livvie)

- Tony Geary contributes nothing of substance to GH

- Rick Hearst acts circles around the shows "leads" and will never truly ascened to "leading man" status because of jealousy and politics.

- Natalia Livingston wasn't as bad as I originally thought

- Tyler Christopher is underrated as an actor

- Tamara Braun is a better actress than Sarah Brown

- Robin is a selfish, hypocritical bitch who thinks she's better than everyone else

- Spinelli and Maxie are sex on a stick

In that case:

- Michelle Stafford is THE most overrated actress on all of television. She's a supporting player; she has some talent but is not nearly as versatile enough to be lead and to justify the constant praise/Emmy love she receives

- Same goes for Kelly Monaco although she does not even have "some" but zero talent

    • I remember seeing him briefly when Rick went to confront her about her blackmailing him. (I briefly forgot that Rick's sleeping with Claire at this time was a retcon - or her lying that she slept with him, whatever that story was). I wonder if he interacted with Kurt given that Mark Lewis later took his ATWT role. I tried to watch some of the full episode and it was all so alien and uninvolving. Roxy having a meltdown on that construction site for Mindy and Kurt's house that never gets built. Ed with Ross and Vanessa dealing with custody issues. Even Ross and Vanessa seemed flat, with Vanessa seeming oddly meek.
    • She did. It was during a party at Amanda's. She didn't literally throw herself at him, but she was subtly coming on to him and he quickly shut her down. Yes, I remember she not only made a pass at Justin, she convinced Jackie that he was harassing her sexually. She also tried to convince Sara that he was pestering her. Everyone banged Josh back then, LOL. Whoa. I must have missed a good chunk of this first time around because I don't remember Reva going to India.  What I recall is Harley being a nanny to the kids and then Reva driving off the bridge. Then they kind of toyed with the idea of Josh and Harley getting together but I don't think that ever happened. Yes, that all happens but I don't recall the tumor. Maybe that's coming up soon with the videos being uploaded to Spauldingfield. The last one I watched, she was planning to vamp Kyle while taking care of the pregnant Maeve.
    • I am a little disappointed that the show will be writing Jenn as in the wrong for her not liking Cat, when she's actually in the right.  Maybe if Cat was played by a competent actress and had a purpose, I would be more behind this propping of the character. And I can't wait for the funeral for John Black to be over and then we can proceed and move on.
    • I'm not sure if the boy Carrie 2 seduced (I think his name was Ron) was still in high school or in college, but I remember he was very shy. I don't recall her making a pass at Alan, but she did make one at Justin, and she ended up banging Josh. I think there was an out of town business man too. Reva thought Josh and Vanessa were having an affair. Vanessa had just been fired by Roger, and when Reva took off to India, Van started helping Josh with the children. He then hired Van to work at Lewis. She would hear him on a business call with Van and think they were arranging a tryst. Or they sat too close together on the couch, so of course they were hiding an affair from her. It was very weird and blew up really quick.  It culminated at the party Reva was throwing at the club to introduce Dylan to Justin. Reva imagined everyone whispering about her and then she dumped a tray of drinks on Vanessa. When Vanessa hauled her into the ladies room to ask WTF, Reva accuses them of having an affair, asks if Van's pregnant, and then knocks her to the floor. I do think Claire had a tumor. I know around Valentine's day, Claire is making passes at a young businessman (or maybe even someone college age), and Ross (Van kinda pushed her at him because she's not keen on Calla). There's also a young intern played by Burke Moses that I think she sleeps with.
    • Congratulations to Carlos Alcaraz on his second win at the French Open!

If the standard of play in the women's final yesterday wasn't of the highest caliber, that is not something you could say about today's final. It was absolutely fantastic tennis.
    • When Barbara's letter was read (partly in Barbara's voice), there was commenting upthread that Barbara's voice is similar to the voice of Naomi's unhoused client June.  It did sound like her.  June is played by Jasmine Burke.  Per closing credits, Barbara was voiced by Sherita Bolden.  Still possible that they are connected. From our discussion on the May thread:  Looks and/or voices similar between June, Haley, and Tracy.   Tracy looks like Debbi Morgan. LOL so June might be connected to Haley, Tracy, or Barbara; and/or Samantha&Tyrell. I love that we don't know!
    • In the 1987 episodes, Mary has wonderful conversations with MJ and Cheryl. This is a realistic family with believable dynamics. Mary's ambivalence towards Vince is played nicely. Denise Alexander is so good here. I don't know what happened that the writers or producers just decided to chuck it all away. I don't FF these scenes. The show had a strong family that could have had years of storyline and they did nothing with them. I really don't get it.
    • I can't speak for Sonni, but I thought Annie came off as neurotic from very early on. That's just how Cynthia Watros plays her parts, and the writing went along. I don't think Claire was mentally ill - they claimed she had a brain tumor, didn't they? I am never sure just why they made the effort given that she was leaving anyway.
    • @DeeVee Claire is a perfect example. So many women came to Springfield as competent, smart, and talented professionals. Then they’d attract a so-called “good guy,” get dumped, and spiral into complete chaos. What always strikes me is how clearly it plays like a male fantasy—yet it was written and sold to a female audience.  I'm not a content expert, but I don't think cis gendered women fantasize about losing control of their mental faculties in response to an orgasm. Similar to Holly's story, it seems repulsive, because I don't believe women fantasize about becoming more vulnerable and appealing to men after they've been assaulted.
