Gabby is getting a new storyline now. I like that. Everyone that is not Cain, Charity or anyone with the Dingle name is appericiated.

LMAO not only did they suddenly make Jimmy a long-year cheater, they also made Vinny being a non-intentional murderer.

I really hope that there is a twist with Sadie.. But I do liked her acting. I’m in the minority but I enjoyed her back in the 2000’s…

What I really loved is that Sadie wasn’t hostile or mean and actually tried talking to Nicola and not fighting her on it… That’s mature!

Someone said before in the pub that Jimmy was ruthless too back then in a way like his brothers and I do think so many forgot about it cause Jimmy has been our funny little teddy bear for so long now.

I really don't like this kind of unrealistic twist they're trying to pull off with Jimmy and Sadie. It's like they have no clue who Sadie was. Why would she even look twice at Jimmy now after all these years? She never loved him the first time around, so why this sudden shift? I guess Patsy Kensit became available and they had to find a way to shoehorn her into the show, logic and history be damned.... 🙄

There is more to it. She was looking for something. Some Papers. I bet they didn’t had a secret relationship. He was probably helping her with something.

I’m more shocked we lost Jimmy but keep people like Sam. WTF? Hell even Vinny gets sacked but they keep Sam?

Hopefully you're right. Even so, I'm not enamored with Sadie's return. It feels contrived and something that happens simply because Patsy Kensit became available, not because they had any real plan in place. Sadie was a golddigger of the highest calibre, and there is no gold for her to find in Emmerdale. And she didn't strike me as petty enough to come back for revenge on Cain or Charity after all these years. She would have forgotten about them as soon as she found another rich guy to latch on to.

Vinny's departure makes Tina's brief re-appearance and the revelation that she is his birth mother even more bizarre. It had zero consequences for anyone, and just made Tina look like a fool. Way to go, Emmerdale! Tina had a brief, satisfying run that came to a natural end. It would have been much better to leave her in the past, instead of bringing her back, with a recast, for that short visit.

I'm much more interested in the story of Kim's secret daughter, even if I wish they didn't go for the overused story of child given up for adoption coming back to get revenge on biological parent. It's been done too many times.

And I hope they don't try to be clever and throw in a surprise daddy. And for the love of god, don't make it Graham! If they are so keen on honouring the show's history as they say they are, just make Steve Marchant the father....

This story went on for too long the first time around, and now they want to go back to it?

I was abroad very recently and found myself watching Emmerdale online. The first time in a number of years, and I couldn’t get over how ‘hollow’ it looks and sounds. There’s so little energy.

It looks like a show that has had its budget slashed and its production gutted.

The writing does it no favours, either. It’s so serious, absent of the with and humour I remember weaving in and out.

To be sure I wasn’t seeing things, I watched episodes from (roughly) the same date in 2016, 2006 and 1996, and the difference is obvious.

How long has it been like this?

I can't really tell you how long it's been because it feels like it's been going on forever, but Emmerdale has been a seemingly bottomless pit of darkness for years. It's been one dark, depressing storyline after another, with no respite in between. It has made watching the show absolutely exhausting and more of a chore than anything else.

I put this in the In Memoriam thread, but it deserves a place here too.

If you go to the Emmerdale page, click on playlists, then classic Emmerdale, the first episode is the only one available, BUT it does say that 3 other videos are hidden. Interesting! Still, how great to see the episode in HD. Happy Birthday Emmerdale Farm, and all of those who celebrate!
