Sorry to bump up an old thread, but I'm surprised the 90210 thread has more activity than the Melrose thread.

The best years of Melrose were 1993-1995. While the show started slow (basically a twentysomething 90210), it really picked up midway through the 1st season when Heather Locklear joined the cast, and the jump the shark moment was when Kimberly blew up the building at the end of the 3rd season, which reminded me alot of Dynasty's JTS moment 10 years earlier, the Moldavian Massacre. Seasons 4 and 5 were the decline and after a good chunk of the original cast left after the 5th season, the show became unwatchable.

To the best of my knowledge:

Seasons 1-3: Darren Star

Season 4: Frank South

Season 5: Charles Pratt, Jr.

Wikipedia lists Carol Mendelsohn also but I know up to Season 5

Aaron Spelling and E. Duke Vincent where there throughout.

Ooops, my bad. Checked the Season 5 DVDs and, you are right, South did exec produce Season 5.

So I assume Pratt handled the much-hated Season 6?

And with Mendelsohn for season 7?

So

Seasons 1-3: Darren Star

Seasons 4-5: Frank South

Season 6: Chuck Pratt, Jr.

Season 7: Chuck Pratt & Carol Mendesohn.

(I like making these lists lol :P)

I don't think she ever had a real career to begin with. But damn, that's horrible.

But not to get OT - I'm currently in the middle of season two and I like the show. I'll stick with it until the end of season five and then decide if it is worth losing my nerves to watch the remaining two seasons. But I still have a long way to go until then - all seasons are just soooo long. :)

    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
    • I also never understood Alex's friendship with Sonni or keeping the secret of Marah's paternity.  Not exactly heartbroken about Ms. Sally being ushered to the Hereafter.

I'm sorry but I'm a glutton for punishment. Would love to see this woman OWNING the canvas. Telling off Leslie who tells her she's the head b!tch.
