Y&R Discussion: Week of May 7

CK may not be a great actress, but that doesn't excuse the writing. When Jack Smith was writing the show she was very agressive in her dislike of Kevin for raping her while she was a child and blaming her for the STD he gave her. If she can stand up to a child molester, then she can stand up to her mother-in-law who killed her mother. Really, what is Phyllis going to do to her? She can't even get an attitude because she knows she's in the wrong.

Bad writing, pure and simple.

I also wasn't crazy about the pleasant convo between Lily and Kevin, much like him hanging out at their apartment a while back. She can forgive, but being friends? Insanity. I'm watching the episodes when Michael returned in 1997 and 4 years later he was still held accountable for what he did. Yes he was remorseful, but they didn't do any propping to make us like him.

To make a successful villian or grey character you have to have that opposition and accountability. It's why Phyllis was so successsful for so many years yet now so many hate her.

I agree. Lily is no rival to Phyllis and it's for the best she stay on good terms with her. Dru got herself killed by sticking her nose in where it didn't belong, on a cliff no less. Actually, I don't believe Dru is dead, but I do believe she is responsible for her own actions. Phyllis didn't push Dru. Dru choose to put her hands on Phyllis and try to take her cell phone away.

Is Karen supposed to be a long term character? I was kind of assuming she was just a glorified extra who would leave after the election, since they haven't developed her at all.

I'm glad BW is on board. I'm interested to see what happens with his character. I hope he mixes it up with Phyllis more. I loved it when he told her to get away from Jack.

Ji-Min was good today. The was he tried to get out of his deal with Jack was funny. If Jack only knew, Ji-Min was only trying to save them both.

If I were Lauren I would insist on not knowing Michael and Gloria's business. Otherwise Joanna will be raising Fen and bringing him to visit both his parents at the state pen soon enough.

Colleen's sudden friendship with Kevin and her friendly conversation with him yesterday was surreal.

Lauren's outrage about Gloria sabotaging the face cream is so fake. She will be laughing and smiling with Gloria next week.

Just by reading the comments, it's no wonder why Y&R is in the toilet. Some of us have thought the show has sucked for awhile now, while others have now come around to see how bad this show is.

The characters are now there to serve the plot. There is absolutely no character development whatsoever. One day, Lauren is ticked off at Michael and Gloria and Kevin, and then two episodes later, she is buddy buddy, and why she was mad is never spoken of again. One minute, Colleen hates Kevin, the next she likes him. No explanation at all. Lily is more worried about Daniel's porn thing than she is about her mother's "death", Neil jumps off and back on the wagon in a week's time, Nikki is all over the place, podVictoria is a complete idiot, Brad is the biggest horses' ass on that show, and Jack goes from being hero one minute to goat the next.

Not to mention that Katherine and Jill hate each other one day, and love each other the next, Cane comes out of nowhere, Phyllis is facing legal trouble (which she will probably be out of by next week).........

I mean, this show is crap. Period. LML is so bad at HWing this show, that you honestly don't know what will happen form one moment to the next. I've stopped reading the spoilers for Y&R, because nothing is followed now, and it seems like she sits on her toilet thinking this crap up while taking a dump. How is it that Brad is still walking upright after the crap he has pulled over the last year? How is Gloria not in jail for what she did? And then what does she do? She blames Jack for sending the samples out early?!

What?!

I still say, that if things don't improve, Y&R may have it's No. 1 streak put in danger. I now watch out of habit, and just to laugh at how the stories are butchered from one day to the next.

This lady needs to be canned. Period.

Sometimes you're just too much, Kenny. LOL!

@ Roman: You expressed the major point why even LML's worshippers slowly turn their back on her, I guess. Even if you like her stories, history assasination, plots lacking any kind of pacing:

HOW DO YOU INVEST IN "STORIES" WHEN CHARACTERS CHANGE THEIR OPINION FROM ONE DAY TO ANOTHER!????

Thank You, Sheila!!!

I mean DAMN! No cohesion at all anymore. They have started and stopped Gloria being busted 4 times now, and now it seems like "Oh! Wait a minute! We haven't had our monthly 'Gloria will get caught' episode! Damn! What do we do? I know! We'll have Lauren find out about it, scream bloody murder at her, then have her scream bloody murder at Michael about lying to her....AGAIN.....and then we won't touch it until June! Is that a plan?"

She makes me sick. This truly great show, which was one of television's best, is just garbage now. And, why won't TIIC see that viewers are turning against it?

I am depressed.

Amber without a doubt is an idiot bitch! Why would she stage a break-in at the Chancellor mansion instead of her and Cane's bread box??? If she wants to move in with Kay and Jill, making her place look unsafe would have been the better choice.

Oh my gosh, it’s trash ahem Amber!

Brenda Dickson would have been SO proud of Amber today. LOL!

La Frantz looked kinda sexy but at Crimson Lights such a dress had a very slutty whorish.

And this Daniel-story is just too dumb for words (Daniel doing "it" in everyone's office. Ewww!). AGAIN. Why do they revisit this awful crap I thought we’re done with.

Log for Tuesday: Y&R still sucks.

Dru did is NOT responsible for her fall off the cliff. PHYLLIS is.

Dru had EVERY RIGHT to defend her friend from bein bullied in the same manner that Toothy Boll Weevil did to her.

But as usual St. Phyllis Of The Glittery Hoo Hoo gets a free pass for EVERYTHING.

 Words from a devoted Drucilla fan. I'm sorry, but if you look at this realistically, Drucilla is the only one responsible for her fall. She should've minded her own business and stayed with Lily and Daniel, on the phone with Neil. No, she had to butt into Sharon and Phyllis' conversastion (like always) and she ended up dying. How is Phyllis resonsible? She didn't push Dru. Dru was in the wrong place at the wrong time and it was her fault.

ITA. And not only did Dru go over and get in the middle of Phyllis and Sharon's arguement, she was pulling on Sharon to get her to let go of the phone. That was STUPID! All she had to do was mind her own business, which has always been a problem for Dru. This time her nosiness cost her her life.

Phyllis is just as complicit in Dru's fall as Dru's desire to help her friend was. There wouldn't have been a situation if Phyllis had not instigated the tragedy. Regardless, I'm surprised by just how quickly her death has been forgotten. I didn't think it was possible for CK to be any more paralyzing, but her Lily actually making nice with Phyllis was too much. Spin some Dixie Chick and remember just who the hell you are and that's Dru's kid. Lily only seems more converned with the fact that Daniel likes to play the human bongo as he watches his porn.

Today's episode alternately bored and frustrated me. Amelia H simply has no energy in her scenes. As a result, I didn't feel for her miscarriage.

I'm beyond sick of that walking blonde joke Amber getting one over on Katherine and the grande Dame of G.C. not having a clue.

Meanwhile, Victor and his ocurt Jester Michael are acting so morally superior to Jack. Jack is a prick, but I can't stand Michael acting all self righteous when he helped Gloria cover up her crimes.

    • The letter reading was very emotional, and Maeve really got to me too. I was a little worried because Vanessa doesn't give a speech at the funeral, which surprised me, but then we got the private letter reading and her true emotional reaction and I was satisfied there. The YouTube channel I watch these episodes on (if not on our Vault), also had upset commenters talk about how Nola's line about Henry not accepting her at first/seen as a gold-digger was totally untrue. It's sad the writers don't do their homework and give fans the respect (and the characters respect). And yep, Bill got up and spoke at the funeral too, which was nice.  I didn't even realize that was Sharon Leal until you said it!  I had to Google it. I loved Sharon Leal in Boston Public back in the day haha. LOL at your Reva/Josh ALWAYS commentary. What is RME though?
    • Leslie is an extreme liar and manipulator. I'm not sure what her point was in trying to convince Nicole she wasn't trying to hurt her. As much as Eva did help orchestrate the entire plot I feel like there was too much piling on. Eva never said she wanted to be a Dupree so Anita was extremely out of line for that comment.

That's positive and something to look forward to for sure, because you're right, 1996 so far isn't nearly as good as 1995. Ohh - what is Lonatrat?  Sadly you're probably right. I did feel like David was rarely seen once Marcus came on. That would have been an interesting spin, having Frank and Tina be teenage lovers and Dahlia really being his daughter. I'm getting the sense that Tina won't be seen too much anymore, as she just left Dahlia with Frank/Eleni as she's heading to jail for a while. I like the Tina actress too!  Her voice sounds a bit like Rosie Perez to me, which I love. I tried to find her online, but coming up empty. This was the only thing I could find about Tina Crede - a character snapshot video with clips and stills of her (randomly starting just before the 1:00 mark):

That's wild that the David actor is nearly 40 here! Definitely surprises me.
    • 5-6   Meh. It already looks like a scattershot week.    5-5 was actually a good episode. Damian and Lily. Phyllis finally going on the warpath that I knew she could get on with Billy and Sally. Nate started to question Audra and Victor's alliance. And I was not even bugged by Kyle and Claire.   But then there's Cole's off-screen story. Kyle and Claire going back to being whiny. And them even wanting Adam's penthouse just sounded like trying to keep the set around. And Diane shouldn't even give a flying frak about Billy's opinion. And Tessa, Daniel, and the guitars...yeeeah no.   But hey...JM looked good in that short. And those pants.  I agree. One of Y&R's good points with fans has always been that you do at least see the vets. And IN stories.
    • One of the things that I found unnecessary and a bit disturbing about Ambitions was that in almost every episode someone was holding or shooting a gun.  Jamey and Ron seem to have the same fetish.
    • I had thought that there was a Tommy Biddles on there, but then I realized I was thinking of Dr. Biddles on Santa Barbara. Never mind!

    • I have watched the scene where Vanessa reads the letter and it's lovely, but I'm really glad now that I never got around to watching the funeral. Henry ADORED Nola! He treated her like a daughter and Stacy like a granddaughter. That's why Vanessa couldn't stand her. He was crazy about all the Reardons. He spent a lot of time at the boarding house. He and Bea--they never explicitly said it was romantic, but they certainly were loving friends. This sounds worse than Bert's funeral. I really did not think that was possible.
    • It always bothered me from the start that Nicole just took Mona's suggestion and never checked references.  A real psychiatrist would have done more before hiring someone. ** I like that Kat's reporter/investigative type instincts caused her to be suspicious of Eva from the start, and to try to spy on Eva and catch her as weeks went by. However, I think that Kat's so focused on what Eva did wrong -- that she won't see that Leslie is the master manipulator, making some things appear different than they actually are. I hope that Shanice's natural snoopy nature will get her to figure out what actually happened to Laura, and who really caused all the problems. *** edit to add: The show never specified what Mona's job was for Nicole.  Home manager?  Office manager?  Head personal assistant?  I'm sure there would have been a title?    Mona asserted today her upset with Eva and with Leslie.  That they used her and ruined her reputation.  I just wish I knew what Mona's job was. If Mona was an official manager, then it would have made sense for Nicole to trust the recommendation, if Nicole thought Mona had done a proper hiring procedure.  But if Mona is just an informal helper, then why wouldn't Nicole order a background check?
