I agree.

As much as I want DAYS to survive, I'm not going to support bad writing by continuing to watch (even though I'm enjoying the show right now, there are many that aren't), and you'd be hard pressed to find many fans who will.

If DAYS does die (Knock on Wood) the only person who will have blood on their hands is the person who murdered it, Corday!!

I agree! If anyone needs to show some loyality it is the people behind the scenes of soaps! We've spent years and years invested with these characters, far more years with them than current head writers and EP. They should reward us and be loyal to their fanbase. Actors and actresses know the fans are loyal, why does TPTB not realize this and gives us good soap opera stories with people we know! This is not rocket science...

8 of the 9 soaps are an hour and that's FIVE hours a week to watch. I wonder how many of the total viewers are true loyal fans (gluttons) who watch the whole five hours. That is a huge commitment. We are the most loyal fans of any genre but TPTB do not show us the same loyalty with their bad decisions which makes many of the most loyal soap fans turn away. No one owes that many hours of their lives per week (how many is that a year?) to any TV show when the writing and production values seem like TPTB don't even care.

I watch mostly ATWT but it insults long-time fans on a regular basis - Adam is now an attempted rapist, Emily is a hooker, Ali is a meth head porn star. TPTB are cluess about what fans want and offer little to explain sudden behavior changes. Characters change with each story and recasts come on with the same name but nothing the same. Now Brad is Jack's "younger" brother. It's just stupid. I am trying to be loyal and there were some positive signs this week, but I wouldn't be surprised if this ticks some people off to the point of saying "to heck with it". And I think ATWT is one of the better soaps.

Sure, we love to pick apart our shows and the writing, but it's not like we all just love to complain. There are legit issues with all the soaps, even Y&R. It's amazing to me how some soaps are up over last year. That's a good sign for the genre but I still long for the days of the great soap writers who knew how to tell a long-term story.

Passions hasn't lost that many viewers because they never had a large viewership base to begin with, compared to other soaps. So really they don't have much to lose, whereas Days had all to lose from a huge fanbase and it's lost it. I tend to apply the depreciation theory:

- a very cheap car isn't likely to lose much of its value because it doesn't have farther to fall

- a very expensive car can lose half its value and still be expensive

if you know what I mean.

I'm starting to think that the cancellation of Passions and speculation on Days' future has had a domino effect on the entire genre. Everyone's asking if their show will be next.

Because that's always the perfect solution, right? Our ratings are down! Let's...um...let's tell our fans that we're bringing back the vets and Stefano! That'll get 'em jumpin'!

DAYS has been using this same type of cycle since I started watching in 2003. The ratings go down...there are major spoilers and rumors that go around (usually involving the "vets" and Stefano)...the ratings pop up for a week or two...the continuation of whatever event/storyline that made the ratings go up ends up sucking...the ratings go down...there are major spoilers and rumors that go around (usually involving the "vets" and Stefano)...

And it goes on and on and on. They're all alive! Lucas and Sami are getting married! So-and-so is returning! Austin and Carrie! Hogan Sheffer is the new HW! PATCH AND KAYLA ARE RETURNING!!!! STEFANO IS COMING BACK!!!!!

It's always the same thing! And until TPTB at DAYS can get their act together and actually offer some decent follow up to these things, they'll continue to lose viewers. So many things that I've seen DAYS fans look forward to have turned into complete flukes. I've seen people who were thrilled beyond thrilled to have Steve and Kayla returned, but now they're ready for them to just leave again. It's a pathetic thing what Corday and Sheffer are doing to this show's loyal fanbase.

But, whatever. We'll see what happens as time goes on.

On a lighter note, yay, AMC and ATWT are doing fairly well! They both deserve it (AMC moreso than ATWT, but eh, I take what I take).

Why are you quoting my posts? I have never stopped watching Days and am always positive about it. Ask anyone on here. I am the last post you should be quoting in regards to not watching Days  .

Nevertheless, you can't tell people what to watch. There have been a few times where I made a post just like yours and then realized that it is wrong to do that. People care about the show and have certain expectations. Some of those expectations are based on the individual and if they aren't satisfied, that is the way it is.

It's weird that Days actually went up a bit in total viewers and men. I mean, seeing any positives right now is nice but I just that was strange given the decline in HH.

AMEN. Give us something worthwhile watching and we *may* return.

The cancellation excuse is so lame. If that were true, Corday would be begging NBC to re-issue a statement to make things sound more hopeful instead of telling his headwriter to get his act together and write for the characters people want to see.

I'm really happy for B&B's numbers.

I enjoyed last week A LOT and for once this reflects in ratings...

LMAO at this sudden rise in teeange girly viewers? What's going on there? I thought Days/Passions had a dead-set hold in this demo with GH sneaking in thrice a year. B&B used to be utter last in this demo. Now they're # 2? Huh!?

I thought all soap contracts were in 13 week cycles meaning the guarantees were for that 13 weeks - ie you have to pay Drake Hogestyn for 2 or 3 shows per week whether you use him or not. I never thought you could "save" those days for six months later.

I wonder if NBC will consider moving Days to like 11am ET to come on after the four hours of Today so they have a consolidated block of programming then turn the afternoon over to the affiliates.

    • Valerie Mahaffey Dead: ‘Northern Exposure,’ ‘Dead to Me’ Actress Was 71 I just loved Valerie on my early '90s TV shows. This one gets me.
    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.
