Does Christel Kahil's Lily act snobby to you?

When I watch Christel's Lily to me she acts like a valley girl stuck up snob with her nose in the air. She reminds me of a sorority girl I went to college with. There is no trace of Drucilla in Christel's Lily, she looks like she belongs more in Beverly Hills. She just acts like a valley girl snobby sorority girl. I know Davetta was fired but I really wish Y&R would have just re-cast Lily all together instead of bringing Christel back. It always seems Christel's Lily has her nose up in the air and looking down at others. Does anyone think Christel acts snobby to you on air? I wonder if Christel is like this in real life.

To answer your question about her Lily, yes. Her Lily is very 'princessy' and not in a lovable way either. It's particularly striking now after getting a taste of Davetta's Lily. And it's not even about Davetta anymore, something really needs to be done about this charater because it's not working with Christel. I don't care if she was the "original". She isn't Lily anymore. I cannot comment on Christel as a person because I don't know her, though of course I have my opinions.

What? Christel's been back for a little over a month. She's been on about a handful of episodes with minor lines. How does she sound snobby?

I know. Shes only been on like 3 times so I dont get that. I love Christel as Lily Winters. I never got used to Davetta's Lily. My problem with Davetta was not about her acting/voice/ etcc it was that she looked to young to play Lily Winters. IMHO Christel looks more mature/adult like where as Davetta could pass as 14 or 15. She just did not look old enough to me.

I have absolutely no comment on the actress herself, but her Lily is more aloof, yes, less personable and warm. "Beverly Hills" is a good description for her. Perhaps that is what they are going for with the character though.

Therein lies the rub. I don't care if Davetta returns or not anymore, but I cannot accept Crystal's version of Lily now that I've seen what Dru's daughter should have always been like. And Beverly Hills Valley is NOT it. With Crystal, I don't see Dru's daughter. I don't even see Neil's daughter. And I sure as hell don't see Malcolm's daughter. So who the hell's daughter is she, because she sure didn't sprout from a Winters or Barber's egg?

The travesty of the show will continue when decisions such as these continue to be made.. when actresses like ED are let go and peroxide bimbos like Amber are brought on.. when greats like JD are killed off and returned only the do what he could have done alive. Dead or alive, John is doing the same damn thing, lecturing Jack.

Although, it would have made it difficult for Gloria to engage in a Will fling if John was still alive. Hmmmm.. Let's face it folks! John was killed of to set Gloria free to roam Genoa City in search of male preys without being labeled an adulterer. How is the ghost of John more instrumental to Jack and the Abbotts than Cellblock John? LML is killing the show!!!

As for why we're stuck with a non-Lily, a non-Winters, a non-Barber woman, a spunkless Lily, I will never know. Bad decisions left and right. At this rate, I'd rather LML do a story saying that Dru's daughter was switched at birth with someone else's, and the REAL Lily is out there somewhere. She HAS to be, because Crystal's Lily ain't nowhere near it.

I am not a consistent enough watcher to agree or disagree with you totally, Foucault, but for what it's worth I enjoyed Davetta's warmer Lily more. She gelled well with her family and brought me on to her side even if she didn't really have her own storyline as I've been watching. Don't get much from Christel to make me interested in her. In fact I'm turned off of her. If they want that to happen, then it's working, but my first inclination would be to not go that way because the personalities clicked more with Davetta's Lily (regardless, as you say, of whether they actually were to get Davetta specifically to return or not).

I still don't know why LML didn't get FRIED for letting John go.

It's f'd up, isn't it? I want that WITCH to DIE! Gloria, that is.

I'm just gonna say it and I'm Mixed race so I'm in no way racist.

this Lily is to hmmm 'white/snobby/Valley girl' to be Dru's daughter and thats the plain truth. I loved Davetta cause she WAS Dru's daughter. The scene when Lily goes to Carmines office to throw down, 'White/Lily' couldn't pull that scene off Carmine would wip the floor with her. Now Davetta acted just like Dru/Victora would have.

Does this thread even have to exist? C'mon, people! This is nothing but a poor redux of infamous Christel/Davetta thread from a few weeks back. It's not necessary. I could've sworn that we have come to the agreement that some people do not like Christel as Lily, while others accept her warm-heartedly. I guess not.

Now, I'm not going to JOHNNYSBRO for starting the thread, because this is obviously bothering him/her. He/she wants to talk about it. I give him all the credit in the world, although I personally do not find the thread necessary. Just go back a few pages and check out the other thread and you'll see the exact same thing people are posting in here.

Quite frankly, I don't give a damn if you're mixed or not. What you are saying IS racist. You are being racist towards Christel because she doesn't appear/behave in the stereotypical "black" manner. She's not talking with her fingers. She doesn't shake her head every which way when going off on someone. She doesn't say things like, "Hey girl!" or "You my girl!" like Victor Rowell tends to do. SO WHAT!

If you all remember correctly, Lily was raised in Paris. Now I don't have an almanac in front of me, but something tells me that Paris doesn't have many black citizens. It would be unbelievable for Lily to be raised in Paris and come back talking "ghetto" if you will :) I take it that's what you all want, right?

I will agree that Davetta's portrayl of Lily and Christel's portrayl of Lily are like night and day. It's obvious. However, I will never, ever criticize Christel for acting too "white/Valley Girl/Beverly Hills" to play Lily Winters, because she is the original Lily and if anyone was acting out of character, it was Davetta.

Hey Vetty! Your character grew up in Paris! Why are you portraying her like you grew up in South Central?

I haven't watched Y&R in years, never liked Khalil's portrayal or the character of Lily, and never saw Wood's version but...interesting discussion here.

I completely agree how idiotic it is when people try to claim they're not racist just because they're mixed or part of a minority group. Now, I'm not sure if you mean racism with CK's portrayal of Lily...the issue seems to be more about ethnocentricism..since she's not acting "black" enough...not that about her not looking "black" enough (actually, I'm pretty sure that's another issue as well)...

If you all remember correctly, Lily was raised in Paris. Now I don't have an almanac in front of me, but something tells me that Paris doesn't have many black citizens. Um..I think Paris does have a lot of black citizens. Still, considering the fact that Lily was raised in a European, upper class lifestyle (I'm not too savvy on Y&R history so someone correct me if I'm wrong), it should comes as no suprise why she would act like some Valley girl.

I do see where other people are coming from. Family has more direct impact on someone's personality than the society they're living in so it makes sense why people would think Lily's snobbiness is a little far off.

I have to disagree. I don't think Paris raises Valley girls. I believe that's an American phenomenon, specifically Southern California. Also Lily was hanging around a "rough" crowd and getting herself into trouble, that's why Dru brought her back to Genoa City. Given that I wouldn't expect Lily to be Valley, weak, and stuck up.

You got it here. This is Dru's child and there is no piece of Dru in her. I don't see any Neil either. She would be better suited as Sharon's child, I think. And for people who like to see realistic families or are fans of Dru, it's bothersome.

DrewHamilton, I remember listening to you on the radio show, you said that Davetta's Lily was not the "type" of girl that would go for a guy like Daniel. Not to mention some of of your comments here and on this thread. If that is not engaging in sterotypes, I don't know what is. Not to mention completely disproven by the fact that Michael and Davetta had great chemistry, chemistry that Davetta admits was not acting. And for the record, in Davetta's run as Lily, she never said things like "Hey girl" or "You my girl". I felt a real connection between Davetta and Victoria Rowell that went beyond they way they acted or the things they said, a connection that is completely nonexistant with Khalil as Lily.

And to be perfectly honest, anyone who calls Davetta's Lily or VR "ghetto", obviously knows nothing about the REAL ghetto.
