Y&R: Not surprising...

Backstage sources say more heads are set to roll among the cast. One vet is on the chopping block because the character's profession is redundant.

Yawn. Give us something new LML, and write something interesting for these fuc*ing characters.

My guess, Paul. <_<

if it is Paul isn't JT still going to be doing that kind of work that doesn't make sense to fire Paul because of the work but keep JT on. & it's Paul mother suppose ot come back next year.

Perfect time to bring back his mother to kill him.

JT is a fricking God to these HW, they'll find a way to put JT in Paul's old position.

I'm sure if it is Paul then he will will the practice or whatever over to the golden boy.

Why does this effin woman think that we care about all of these new bozo character's she's created?

She has me barely watching as it is with the Nick and Phyllis show and Jack is the most evil character on television.

I'm to the point where I want to say sayonara anyway, but if she keeps it up, I'll be writing the show off.

At this rate nobody is going to want to renew there contract. If any vet is next in line to leave I hope it's BRAD.

I can't blame all the casting changes on LML because she has people over her head that make the final decisions. I think she gets too much blame for the backstage stuff because she's the name everyone knows. Eric Braeden even said that LML was NOT the one that fired Eileen Davidson.

Eric Braeden would say anything to cover his ass. He knows that LML means business, unlike JS. You can't speak up with this HW. Besides when JS was at the helm all these casting decisions were not occuring.

  • Member

Like I've said, six months from now, this show is going to be unrecognizable. And that's a crying shame!

  • Member

It could be Thad Luckinbill who is redundant. He has been on the show for 8 years, which in my opinion, makes him a vet.

that rumor was started on Wikipedia, which seems to say every actor in soaps is coming back "next year"

I completely disagree. Several actors have spoken out while Latham has been here and nothing was done. Hell, Jeanne Cooper complained and now she's in a huge frontburner story which landed her the cover of CBS SID. Latham (and the actors) have made it clear that she is very collaborative on every story, so again I say there is no evidence to prove she's this Nazi everyone says she is.

As for Jack Smith, I disagree. Did you forget Heather Tom, the biggest disaster in a long time? Oh and tell me...where are Olivia and Mamie, two long running characters who didn't even get an exit? What happened to Paul's mom and secretary? Did Latham write all these people off? Did she re-write history to make Jill Katherine's daughter? Or Malcolm Lily's father? I guess so.

And lets not forget Eric Braeden and Jess Walton who were both going to leave the show had Smith stayed in charge. I still have the SOW where Braeden clearly states that he wouldn't re-sign his contract if he's not going to be used. He completely blasted the show. Then JS replied saying he had a huge story for Victor and Nikki starting last Fall. Did they ever happen? NO. Because he is a liar. At least with Latham she promised Cooper/Walton a story and they got it.

In addition you have Kristoff St. John and Victoria Rowell whose fates with the show were seriously in doubt when JS (who didn't write for them) didn't bother to start contract negotiations until well after they expired. I recall St. John saying he had absolutely no idea if he'd be sticking around because he didn't know if they wanted him. LATHAM is the one who saved him with the Carmen story.

So this is what bugs me about all the talk that Latham is destroying the fabric of the show. All the potential exits I mentioned would be HUGE for the show. Doug Davidson has not been relevant since his story with Eva Longoria. Besides, most people complain when they DO use him. Latham has brought so many characters to the forefront, not the opposite.

I don't think Latham and her team gets any credit for anything positive she does and everything else is blown out of proportion. It's not like they fired Brad Bell, they fired two headwriters who were causing the ratings to drop and on this board (and many others) people couldn't stop talking about how much they hated the show.

I would highly recommend you checking out the Television Without Pity thread from the beginning. It's about two years old and you can see the day to day comments to see what I mean. But of course now that there is an outsider running the show everything is forgotten and she's the devil no matter what.

Please, she manipulated viewers into thinking she was bringing back Jerry Douglas. But oh yeah, only to kill him afterwards. You're right JC did speak up and I bet LML killing off John was a warning to JC to keep your mouth shut or you'll be next

Nope, I remember Heather Tom. And yes, in the end JS orgasm for Sharon Case won out over Heather Tom's fantasticness (huh?). Still, killing off Cassie was WAY worse than letting go of Tom. No clue where Mamie is, and TLW is doing her damn thing in Canada. Still, a lot of Y&R characters disappear without explanation. Lynn left because her husband went over to B&B.

Jill and Katherine could have been better if it was developed more. That's where Smith's problem lied with that story. There should have been more angst. And atleast it made sense, unlike that fricking reliq.....

Eric Braeden would never walk. Jess Walton was going to leave because Latham wasn't writing for her.

With KSJ and JS, I believe it was just miscommunication. I do think that Jack Smith did write for the Winters, and atleast he kept them in character, with you know, character driven drama.

Doug Davison is shamefully underrated. He's probably the best male crier on the show. He deserves something more than to be the clueless detective in GayT shadow. YUCK.

I think she gets a fair amount of praise and slams. And atleast with JS and KA the fabric and integrity of Y&R was still intact. With Jack Smith I didn't have to fear that one of my favorites would be written off. As well, ever since LML came on board the overall quality of the show has dipped. Bad editing, plot driven madness, shitty writing.

She spoke out AFTER Jerry Douglas was killed off. Including the time to film it was probably two months after. I'm still waiting for one piece of solid evidence to prove that she is this Nazi yall say. A Nazi leader wouldn't speak to the cast about their character or storyline. This is how most writers work, I recall Nancy Lee Grahn saying she just shuts up and does what she's told. Latham is the complete opposite, hell Jeanne Cooper had a heavy part in writing her story. Nazi? I just can't see it.

Eric Braeden would never walk. Jess Walton was going to leave because Latham wasn't writing for her.

I don't know if Braeden would really leave, but he did make it very clear in the magazine that he would and he is stubborn enough that I wouldn't count it out. And Latham is the only reason Walton is around. If Smith was here Jill and Katherine would still be on the show and she would probably be fired, not choosing to leave.

The reason she wanted to leave was not because of Latham, but because she hasn't had a storyline since 2004 and even then it wasn't a big story. That is long before Latham arrived, which hasn't even been a year. Latham assured her that she planned on using her when she had a story and begged her to stay. For this she deserves all the thanks in the world, IMO. And she's followed through with her promise by giving Katherine and Jill a GREAT storyline AND Jill got a romance to boot.

With KSJ and JS, I believe it was just miscommunication. I do think that Jack Smith did write for the Winters, and atleast he kept them in character, with you know, character driven drama.
He wrote for Christel Khalil's Lily, Dru and Neil were her parents. They were written largely as the token black couple and lost their personality with him. And the way Malcolm's return was handled just goes to show how little he cares about the family (if Mamie and Olivia's exits weren't enough). Here Shemar Moore is returning to end his story and it was highly publicized, but nothing really happened. The paternity was left open and Latham had to play the story without Malcolm. It should've been tied up when Moore was there. Instead he was in that boring romance with Adrienne.

Smith gave the black characters just enough to pacify them and that's it.

Doug Davison is shamefully underrated. He's probably the best male crier on the show. He deserves something more than to be the clueless detective in GayT shadow. YUCK.

I like him (big Christine/Paul fan), but the majority opinion seems to be negative about the character in recent years. Most people find him boring. I hear more complaining or talk about his bad toupee than anyone wanting his character to do more. Losing him would not be a big loss, IMO. Especially if it led way to a big return like say David Tom.

So she speaks to the cast. So did Jack Smith. Victoria Rowell suggested the Foster Care story. She is the one who wrote John out of prison, gave fans FALSE HOPE and then KILLED HIM OFF. It was stupid to put him in prison, but it was just nonsensical to kill him off. And oh yeah she had Jack Smith write the majority of that because she doesn't.know.the.characters. Yet she fires the ones who DO

I don't know if Braeden would really leave, but he did make it very clear in the magazine that he would and he is stubborn enough that I wouldn't count it out. I believe that Smith in the end would have to write for Jill and Katherine. Sooner or later his Fisher obsession would end. Besides I'd rather no Jill than STUPID Jill we had to endure around Gloria. Braeden is stubborn, but not stupid...he would never walk because it's a steady paycheque and he knows the chances of him finding work is slim. Unless he chose to retire.

The reason she wanted to leave was not because of Latham, but because she hasn't had a storyline since 2004 and even then it wasn't a big story. That is long before Latham arrived, which hasn't even been a year. Latham assured her that she planned on using her when she had a story and begged her to stay. In the magazine it said she wanted to leave but LML kept promising her a story. What romance does Jill have? The little Jill/Will stuff here and there. She pairs Jill with her loveryboy Ted, instead of bringing back fan favorite Larry. And this storyline for Jill and Katherine is far from great, it's just OK at this stage. Plus the writing for Jill and Kay has been OFF.

He wrote for Christel Khalil's Lily, Dru and Neil were her parents. They were written largely as the token black couple and lost their personality with him. And the way Malcolm's return was handled just goes to show how little he cares about the family (if Mamie and Olivia's exits weren't enough). It should've been tied up when Moore was there. Instead he was in that boring romance with Adrienne.

Yeah, and why didn't Latham just let the story be instead of continuing it when Victoria Rowell was leaving for vacation and Shemar Moore wasn't returning. She also promised loads of flashbacks in that story, but nope didn't happen. That story was inconsistent, and it lead to that stupid miscast Carmen debacle. I never saw Dru/Neil as the token black people under JS. I saw a mature married couple in love. Yes, I disliked that they were centered around there kids, but I also loved the Dru/Phyllis rivalry. Where is that now? Oh yes, Phyllis (although I still like her) is a saint. Sharon and Phyllis rivalry is weak, and playground ish. VR/MS had a MUCH better dynamic.

Smith gave the black characters just enough to pacify them and that's it.

What made Bill Bell so great was that he didn't always listen to the fans. That and he was damn talented. Plus, if Paul is boring then why not make him interesting. TPTB just don't want to write for this man. Paul has a family and has been neglected for far too long. Plus a seasoned vet like Doug Davidson for David Tom...I think I'll pass.
