PETER BERGMAN SOUNDS OFF: "I'M NOT HAPPY."

The firing of Eileen Davidson continues to send shockwaves through Y&R.

"I am eternally grateful to Lynn Latham for putting Jack Abbott back on the map. At the same time, she decimated the Abbott family," declares PB. "It's scary. I'm not happy about it. What used to be the Abbott house is now Jack's place. What used to be the Newman family taking on the Abbott family is now the Newman family taking on Jack."

Davidson broke the news to PB herself. "I don't worry in the least for Eileen's career," says PB. "I'm sure some show will snatch her up immediately . I'm sorry for us, because we're losing Eileen. It's a tough, tough loss."

Jerry Douglas, who portrayed Abbott patriarch John Abbott, was killed off last August, and now this. Does PB have survival guilt? "I do," he admits. "This is a good time to test my faith. My faith has been renewed in Y&R and daytime television and Jack Abbott because of LML. I know this is her doing and I have to have faith that she knows what she is doing."

As for the atmosphere on the set, "Everyone is stunned," sighs PB. "Eileen was not exactly high on the list of anybody's 'most likely to go' list. Everyone has that 'but for the grace of God' feeling. I, in particular, have always felt that a character's strength is tied first to the relationship he's in and second to the family he's part of. Right now, Jack has neither. Jack's relationship with Ashley is terribly important."

And PB's relationship with ED? "It was a relationship of extraordinary trust," he says. "Here is a genuinely attractive woman who I felt nothing for from the waist down because she's my sister! She's a lovely, intelligent person who knew her stuff when she came to work. She's a great actress."

Peter has always admired Eilleen and I knew he would be upset about this. You tell 'em Peter!

WOW! Good for him. I like LML. Some of her stories really do suck and leave me shaking my head. But if ED asked to be let out of her contract then I don't think LML can be blamed too, too much.

I absolutely love how with so many actors being let go from their shows, their co-workers are defending them, and publicly. I love it and I love Peter for being one that can be added to the list of great people.

What sucks is that whenever I watch Y&R I'm constantly thinking who's going to go next? It scares me.

I believe only PB and DD have spoken up for ED thus far.

Eric Braeden in the latest SOD:

"It makes absolutely zero sense...It is inexplicable to every single one of us here. She's a wonderful actress and an extraordinarily important part of this show and its history. I don't get it."

Did you voice your dissatisfaction to Executive Producer/Head Writer Lynn Marie Lathem: "You bet your a-- I did. I don't know what the reasons are ... This has nothing to do with Lynn Latham." [Huh?]

Has the axing of a mjaor actor like Davidson given rise to uneasiness within the rest of the cast? "The decision to get rid of Eileen has raised a lot of antennae...It makes a lot of people think, and if that's the intent then you're playing with fire. That's all I'm going to say."

Can't argue that, he goes on and on about it in every interview about her exit.

Eric Braeden is nuts, that Ashley triangle is the reason her character is ruined now.

I'm extremely pissed about Davidson's exit, but I wouldn't agree that Latham has decimated the Abbott family. This happened years ago which is why there are only three Abbotts around. She didn't have much of a family to decimate, lol.

With Christel Khalil's drama they've been keeping her on the backburner while fans calm down, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are interested in listening to fans. I expect next year a big revamp of the Abbotts based on this backlash.

Everyone talks about what a nazi she is, but a nazi wouldn't call their actors all day and collaborate with them on stories. Everything about her says (to me) that she wants to please people, so I'm keeping faith.

She hasn't brought on a ton of new characters and she hasn't heavily featured any of them. In addition she uses a wide range of the characters on the canvas and seems dedicated to them, not her newbies. I don't expect a mass firing spree anytime soon. I'd expect more returns.

I agree with everything Peter Bergman says. I also notice that while he expresses (completely understandable) feelings regarding Eileen's departure and his position on the show, he is careful not to single LML directly.

I have hope that Y&R won't pull an ABC and marginalize Swoop Jack. After all, that brainless piece of landry lint *cough* JT *cough* is still featured on this show. Dude has NO family ties to anybody and yet he shows up at John's deathbed and the Newman Christmas like he's a founding character. Peter Bergman, I suspect, commands a lot more respect and fans, so I cannot see him being written off just yet. Maybe Traci will come back? Maybe some Child He Never Knew from his past will show up again (played by Cynthia Preston, hopefully). There's still some life in Auntie Jack yet.

So far, Y&R still compells me to watch everyday, regardless.

Maybe if more people complain like the actors & viewers they get rid of The Hack LML.

For the most part the actors have been very positive in regards to Latham, so I doubt that will happen. Even in Eric Braeden's harsh statement he mentioned that Jack Smith is reponsible for the situation Ashley is in now.

I think it could be that they enjoy her writing, but are unsure about her as an Executive Producer. This is how I've felt as well. The EP should be someone unconnected to Latham who is connected to the show and can give her perspective. With a Y&R related EP they'd know better than to fire Davidson and not expect a bashlash.

Still, I say we should expect a big Abbott revamp next year in response to this. We bitched and moaned about a Jill Katherine storyline and we've got it. Soaps write and tape in advance so it will be a while before all the changes are shown, but I do believe this will be a collaborative team that wants to please the fans and the cast.

It's so funny to be having this discussion when SOD named The Abbots as soaps most rejuvenated family. WTF!

Kudos to Peter Bergman and Eric Braeden for speaking their minds. The firing of Eileen and a lot of other things shows a blantant disregard for this show's rich history. I think what made this the best is being lost and yes I blame LML.
