GL: Are they really doing this?

I will only think this will be a good idea if I see numbers aka ratings skyrocket.

GL is far from the people who knows how to make anything work in this medium. I understand that comics are serial type reading, but that does not mean they should have a place on the oldest soap around. Passions, perhaps but not my GUIDING LIGHT. While I respect your opinions, I find this crossover and this episode and huge waste of time, talent and a slap in the face to lifelong fans.

GL and Marvel could do the crossover. They could write the comic and sell the heck out of them, but that does not mean that they writers have to come up with a story about it. Think how long it took for them to write this and come up with the idea, imagine if they would do that when it came to real stories, like Reva's cancer, Dinah's troubles and stuff like that. Furthermore, it would be okay if they done this and continued to tell top notch stories, GL is far from doing either. We have Reva running around not telling the love of her life about cancer, Josh is to stupid to know that Reva's been weak and her hair has basically all fallen out, I mean seriously Reva was wearing a wig months ago and Josh was too stupid to think, what the heck, why is she wearing a wig.

Kwing, this is nothing like Reva's ITL episodes, even that one were she fulfills her wish list. And I beg to differ, this Harley's a Marvel and Ross campaign/election episode...did you see that episode, how could you even compare the two.

And I will get off GL's back when they star thinking outside the box and telling character driven stories, like they used to. Tell some thought out, good stories and then maybe when they feed us this comic/crossover episode crap we won't b!&^# about things so much.

Well said!!!!

I have watched the show a long time and I have been very critical of the show. The shows from last Wednesday to yesterday proves they are capable of putting out a good show.

To throw this comic book crapat us just messes things up though.Wheeler and Kreizman need to go-like yesterday!!

I really don't see what people are getting into such a state about. So long as this is an individual whimsical fantasy episode, where's the harm? I'd rather this than try to pad out time with repetition and exposition and it sounds a darned sight better than serious fantasy stories such as DOOL's Garden of Eden.

I'll go against the grain here and say I think DK and EW do a very good job with the show given the obstacles they have in their way. Their ratings are only shades away from the ABC soaps and they still produce an innovative but grounded show on a shoestring budget.

I know this GL is not the show it used to be. As an outsider and occasional viewer I see it as a totally new show and enjoy it on its merits.

I might actually watch this.

First time I've seen GL in about 2 years.

JamesF in regards to your ratings, the thing is, it's not like GL is rising to beat the ABC soaps, they're just falling into GL's territory.

  • Member

Wow! Somehow GL has managed to beat the Reva clone storyline. At first I thought this was just a one-day, ITL-type s/l, but if it's a legit s/l, then DK is definitely on crack.

But like King said, anything w/ Harley is FF-worthy IMO.

Thus far, DK says this a one shot thing, but then added, something along the lines of, you never know when Harley's superpowers could pop up again!!!

Jeez....spare us all.

Okay so there is a thing up at TVGuide.com and I'll just post stuff and then gripe about it:

It's all part of GL's special crossover episode with Marvel Comics. "This started with our costume designer, Shawn Dudley, who designed Storm's wedding dress in the Black Panther comic book awhile back," says GL head writer David Kreizman. "We began brainstorming other crossover ideas from there."
First off why is David getting ideas from the costume designer. Stop reading comic books or looking at them and write better stuff at GL. I'm all for co-workers going out with one another, but I swear I think David and Shawn along with Ellen got drunk one night and made the committment to do this. Blah!! Shame on you both.

Just to play devil's advocate here: What's the point? Does GL actually hope comic fanboys will be tempted to tune in for love in the afternoon?

"There were never any expectations that we'd draw in millions of comic-book readers or that Marvel would draw in millions of soap-opera watchers," Kreizman says. "We just thought it would be a really fun show for our audience.

BAM! There it is. They have no idea what the heck they are doing. NO EXPECTATIONS!!! JEEZ I mean come on at least they know this is boring and stupid. So why in the world would they even do this. This is a waste of airtime, special effect money...OMG!!! This is not a fun show for a majority of the people. David pull your head out of wherever you have it stuck and start listening to what the viewers what, this S&!( is not it and if you think it is, which I don't think you do is crap!! Here is a concept David, Ellen...something that your viewers might like to see is YOU BOTH RESPECTING THE HISTORY OF THIS GEM YOU HAVE. This p&#*#@ me off so much when you have writers and producer who I don't think even respect the genre or know what their show is about. Dave seems so dumb...I know whe have clled for fresh young blood, but let's get someone who actually knows something. Such disrespect and shame on you both for that!

Soap audiences aren't always exactly what we think they are, either.
That is painfully obvious. Because if you knew what soap audiences were, you would know that superheros have no place on GUIDING LIGHT. It has a better place on Passions. This is Guiding Light who have given us such characters as Maeve Kinkead as Vanessa; Ellen Parker as Maureen Garrett; Peter Simon as Ed Bauer; Beverly Kinsey as Alexandra...I wonder what these talented actors think when they see pure trash like this. They laugh and are prolly glad they severed all ties with this show, except Kinkead, who I think should never return until Kriezman/Wheeler are shoved out the door on their behinds!! Here's a concept Davey, soap audiences like to see soaps, try writing one you hack.

"I hope the audience likes it," Kreizman adds. "If they do, we can bring the comic thing back every now and then. We'll see how it goes. If they don't like it, then tomorrow is always another day. That's something else we have in common with comic books. We put out so much material that we have the chance to experiment."

He seems to really think people are going to like this? And he's appearing as a thug in it, remember what happened the last time a writer appeared in an episode, Ellen Weston...she was shown the door. Here's hoping that the same thing occurs for him as well. We haven't liked a lot of your crap lately, but you still keep forcing it down our throats day after day after day after day, so I find it hard to believe that you'll fix this...fix other things, like Guiding Light for example.

BTW, will Harley's electrically-charged superhero adventure be all in her head? "It's not a fantasy," Kreizman explains. "We're playing it as real. It's not like she gets knocked out and wakes up and it was all a dream. Some things that happen in this episode actually do push story along. It's fun, but the characters do deal with very emotional issues."

The GL scribe says that there is a knowing wink to the audience, though. "Harley and Gus (Ricky Paull Goldin) look at each other at the end of the episode like, 'Did that really happen?'"

Oh sweet mother of the Lord!:blink::rolleyes::rolleyes:

When I saw the promos for Wednesday's show I started laughing my head off! I will not be watching this crap! It is beyond ridiculous!

  • Member

So now Sucksman is insinuating that this might not be fantasy after all? No, bump that, he plain and simply says it is real! WTF?

  • Member

Yes though he has always said it was real and that you never know when Harley's super powers might return. Blah! Gag me.

  • Member

I have this on now, and it even looks like a hott mess!

This is really bad. Really bad!!!!!!!!!
