I'm with you on this. And do people not remember. Reagan cut federal funding to state public universities by something like 75%. So anyone who went to college before I think 1995(I think that was when the final federal funding cap was in place) was able to goto a state PUBLIC university at affordable rates. I get the idea that people think these students should be looking at other options. But students should also be able to goto the public school of their choice. Also Many places including Chicago for example provide tuition free assistance to students that are within certain income brackets and maintain reasonable(not super exceptional) GPA. Our governor here has talked about subsidizing community colleges funding for students that fall within similar categories, but then we also have a huge budget deficit the state is trying to work toward resolving.

They have been one of the worst in terms of Kamala Harris - reporting on every problem in her campaign - any passing over the problems Buttigieg md others have had.

Oh no my apologies for misunderstanding. I think the media focus on the leftists is driven by the push to say the party is split and to push centrist candidates friendly to those who run the media. I can't take anyone seriously anymore frankly in the media who pushes centrists and centrist ideology. They all come across so disingenuous and in it for themselves, its not even believable. That doesn't mean I don't believe a good number of Americans are moderate, but these media people push wealth taxes and higher tax rates on the rich like these are leftist ideas, when they are supported by most Americans. Why? Because it hits them. I also believe a good majority of Americans believe in breaking up the tech industry and most see none of these people are operating in good faith. M4All is different and I have come around to actually supporting the idea but I actually like Sherrod Brown's approach, which is lowering the age on Medicare and instituting a public option. Those things in particular might drive private insurance prices down, and if they don't then look at expansion. And frankly I don't think they will. I've had my own experience with the private insurance market as it relates to insurance for people like me who have PEC's. I am a breast cancer survivor and while my insurance costs are still on the high side(I am self employed), it's far better with the mandates in place than it was before.

This is why it bothers me when people come here parroting right wing talking points. Don't we see them enough watching the MSM and reading most of the mainstream press. This was mot Mississippi where the candidate had ZERO connection to the AA community. Bel Edwards got elected to begin with, with the support of that community . There is no way they would have had those Obama robocalls set if they weren't trying to leverage that base. No one trashing Obama is going to win. He's the only one in years that has put together a multi gender multiracial multi age coalition. It's amazing that it seems only the candidates of color and Biden seem to get this. While not a Biden supporter, I am relishing the fact he knows how the black vote is going to keep him in play while Warren, Sanders, and Buttigieg keeps dismissing them and Harris is quietly picking up even more endorsements.

I hope people here know this is one of the ultimate southern insults and is not Bel Edwards sucking up to Trump. He also won by 3 points. Not a squeaker.

How has John Bel Edwards sucked up to Trump. He hasn't . If anything he focused on the kitchen table issues democrats in many districts in 2018 focuses on. Yes his anti abortion stance is problematic IMO, but that doesn't mean he fell into the Trump dungeon. Obama did a robocall for voters in LA before the election to get voters in the state out to vote. I know the leftists on twitter hate Obama. So what. They don't speak for the electorate.

The lead republican in the state legislature would not back his effort and "suggested" unless he could produce evidence of problematic voting, he should drop it. Bevin is not popular with republican legislators in KY either.

Lord how hard is it for me to say Bernie Sanders is right about a few things. First buying themselves into elections, buying elections, and they are also sociopaths. Pre-meditated murder is not a MISTAKE.

While I do blame politicians I blame the media first and foremost. Look at the landscape of the media, the press and see how many reporters and media personnel are PoC. This fixation for the last 3 years of trump voters is nauseating. I don't recall in Obama's LANDSLIDE over McCain anyone spending 3 years over Obama voters or the coalition.

Lol yes we all know they said that about Hillary. I think after reading that Politico article, it explained a lot. If anything she has seemed more uncertain than anything. And I do think she took a big hit after the first debate. What seemed like a bold move initially, was painted as her being opportunistic. And then Biden's wife went on TV in that interview and lied about Harris. That I cannot justify. I think the past couple of weeks, that recent speech she did in Iowa, her being the ONLY one who called out what happened at Benedict College(with zero comments from her running mates), is the Kamala I imagined. Someone confident and a fighter. I am still hoping things can turn around and that she has learned well from the earlier missteps in her campaign. I am imagining what everyone in the media would said if Hillary decided at this point to enter the race. I am really confident(only not) she would have gotten the same glowing treatment Bloomberg is.

What was done to he and Dilma was criminal and corrupt. Lula would easily get elected. He was quite popular. This is really fantastic news. I have been following what's been going on in Brazil, particularly his case, and he initially refused release to house arrest. The prosecutors were trying to save face after they "illegally" persecuted him.

Why not? What exactly have they done in terms of voter suppression since 2016? Abrams started an organization as did Jason Kander. Holder has been working on gerrymandering but what exactly has the DNC done for African Americans, particularly women? Nothing.

I don't think this primary has been that unusual. You have to remember the media and social media environment magnifies everything tenfold. I am burnt out but then I am not 90% of Americans who are not really paying attention to the primaries. When you see numbers like 80% of Iowa voters still have not decided, that says a lot. It's why I still think it's possible for Harris. Maybe a long shot, but I am still hoping. 2 issues IMO. I agree with Vee on Warren except for one thing. I don't think her political instincts are great. She got played into that DNA test. And while I think she proved people wrong in paying for M4ALL, some have said she was goaded into that. We'll see how she deals with being a frontrunner. What I will say about Warren, is she does believe in what she's selling and despite the DNA debacle, I find her authentic. Her biggest hurdle IMO like Sanders and Buttigieg is the black vote. I would say at this point not one top 4 candidate has demonstrated they can get Clinton's numbers there much less Obama's. Oddly I think Beto had that ability had he managed to succeed. I have heard folks talk about the MS Governors race and that Hood could not match Espy's black turnout numbers. Why? He waited until the election to reach out. How many of these folks actually have the ability to reach these voters other than Castro and maybe Harris(I discount some because she's a female). Now I am not African American and maybe those of you who know better than me can shed some light, but I don't think being anti Trump is good enough for that voting base. Maybe I'm wrong. The thing with Warren or even Sanders is that they have the anti establishment wave - associated with them, where you have folks like Harris IMO who is the same IMO for different reasons and coming from a different place. I think the policies of both like taxing the rich in particular is very popular, equity in pay and the wealth taxes popular. And we know that's why. I also think both are positioned to win over younger voters. But again not the black vote. Time will tell. After Trump I am not buying the electability argument for anyone.

Ok now why is Bloomberg entering the race.. These people have all lost confidence in Biden I guess but Bloomberg ain't going to get the black vote. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/07/us/politics/michael-bloomberg-president-2020.html If a billionaire is going to run with limited experience(Well Bloomberg was mayor of NYC not South Bend) at least recruit Oprah for goodness sake.

I still have no idea why he is running, but he reminds me of Schultz who thought being a billionaire qualifies him to be president and they can buy their way in. Even if he doesn't step out, he's going to get challenged in the next debate and he should. On a positive note regarding Kamala Harris this is kind of a big endorsement. https://www.essence.com/test/kamala-harris-endorsed-higher-heights/ And this is kind of a big deal in Nevada http://www.startribune.com/kamala-harris-gets-coveted-invite-from-powerful-nevada-union/564357992/ I am not counting her out yet.

Well that has more to do IMO with her political instincts or maybe her team. I think she has an A1 group of experts helping her translate her policies into potentially workable solutions, and the messaging when she was not the front runner worker - maybe because she wasn't the front runner. Notice no one challenges Bernie on how he's going to pay for it. All he has said was "I don't need to map out details now" - very Trumpian. Frankly this doesn't bug me that much right now. I talked about her political instincts. Does she really believe she would never be challenged on her M4All plan when she set the stage herself with the "I have a plan" for everything. That's the real issue I have with her. Plus she actually started out making attempts with black voters, something she seems to have abandoned.

I'm trying to understand your concerns with Warren via this statement. She has been for Medicare for All since the onset, so I am not sure if you expected something different. She actually in fact did what Bernie hasn't which is to lay out a way to pay for it. We can debate the merits of M4All or how she has mapped out the road to fund it, but it's not a new policy with her. I have issues with Warren, and actually am not fully on board with M4All right now, but her positioning herself with a detailed plan is not one of them. A lot of this IMO is exhaustion. The primary season starts too soon and I know I am burned out, but I'm still hoping Harris can turn things around. And while I believe she's the most capable along with Klobuchar of taking trump on, she's going to have an uphill battle. She's a WoC and we already know that part of the electorate will cancel her immediately just for that reason, same as Buttigieg will be discounted by people for being gay. Unlike Buttigieg, I think she has the fighting power, background, and experience to work her way to a win.

It disappeared quickly because that tool cannot keep his big fat mouth and everything else shut. I don't care if he's president or not, if the press and media would stop their fixation on him he would implode. He can't stand not being the center of attention.

This primary season has been disappointing. So many good candidates. She is still my pick. I know her campaign has been problematic, but I firmly believe a black woman is the only one who can legitimately take on the orange menace. Biden isn't going to win. If he runs as he's run in the primary forget it. While I can feel horrified at what Trump and Guliani have tried to do to Biden, I also resent the media giving him zillions of passes and his stumbles being excused as gaffes. Trump would eat him alive. And after that confrontation at the first debate, the MSM and Bidens wife came after Harris in fact Biden's wife lied about her. Warren who I think does come across in some ways as Bill Clinton did, relatable and she does have a gift for explaining as he did, her getting baited into that DNA test shows me she has poor political instincts. I like Buttigieg but he doesn't have experience and I resent his pandering approach to African American voters. Yes he's gay and I thought he had a great interview with Maddow when they both shared their feelings and experiences in coming out, but little experience and I don't see how he will win AA voters with his pandering approach and his record in South bend Sanders? I have said all I can say about him.

It's admirable that they did this and I appreciate the historical significance of where they held it BUT. Where was everyone. Lord Harris who has been attacked endlessly for some concerns about her record yet I don't see anyone who criticized her(Bernie) at this event. Shameful.
