  1. It makes a difference. I think Khan was right our news cycle and this need to get out there ASAP is damaging. It puts everyone on the defensive. I'm not suggesting plotting and strategizing to avoid accountability but really talking to people to understand the hurt as a way to really respond effectively. I wish someone would suggest that there be some sort of Commission started in the state. There needs to be a real come to Jesus on race and while someone wearing blackface is horrible and putting on KKK wear disqualifying, there is a deeper problem that needs to be addressed. Virginia honestly seems like a good place to start.
  2. I'd actually be fine with that provided were had responsible leadership that could help guide us forward and were leaving the world leadership in responsible hands. And that does not mean isolationism to me or becoming anti immigrant(pro immigration positions have actually increased in the US). China's been positioning themselves to move forward for years and is quickly gaining footing in areas we have retreated from. Not that the US leadership around the world has not been a failure and still is(see the cheering for Venezuela regime change), but China ugh.
  3. I think it's time to ask who in the VA gvmt has never done blackface or dressed up as a terrorist Klan member
  4. Quote from MLK "This country has socialism for the rich, and rugged individualism for the poor." We have massive socialism in this country. Just not for the regular people. Socialism good - Create endless military actions to keep the likes of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin in business(must keep those weapons lines humming) - Have a lopsided judicial system and highest incarceration rate in the western world to keep the private prison contractors like Core Civic in business. And who do people think is managing all those border camps setup along the border. So you create a fake crisis that leads to those private prison contractors keep humming - Massive tax breaks that leave the mega rich and corporations having to pay basically zilch(welfare) while selling to the middle class a MAYBE tiny tax break(although now we see peoples taxes have gone up) to - well not do anything. But providing 300 million people affordable healthcare is bad "socialism"
  5. Crenshaw has turned out to be just another right wing nut. The thing that is happening that these clowns hate is that everyone - republicans and democrats and independents, in general like the idea of raising taxes on the rich. And Kevin Hassett telling people to listen to economists after lambasting the elite economists the past few years, isn't going anywhere.
  6. Brown is practical and I think if I recall one of the things that was reviewed as part of the ACA was lowering the age for Medicare. I am of the camp by the way who believes we need National Health care but I am also convinced of doing it in a pragmatic way. I think if Brown and Harris frame it correctly it becomes a winning issue and neither has made any hard commitments about specific policy. Notice how I say Brown and Harris and Harris and Brown because to me that is a winning ticket
  7. Is this really the new standard by defining if someone is a racist. I doubt even if a photo of Trump showed up with him in a white hood would the media train acknowledge it. Now the barometer by the likes of Chuckles Todd is "do you know what's in their heart" as to why someone should not be called a racist. I am glad Sherrod Brown put him in his place. And by the way Brown so far is the only white male politician on the stump so to speak that has managed to address these idiocies in the media I have heard time and time again without anger, but just in a matter of fact "factual" way. In the process he makes these people look more and more like the fools they are. https://twitter.com/MeetThePress/status/1092067775802236928
  8. I actually read Ken Vogel reporter for the Post chastising the press for not doing proper vetting for the election. Reviewing scholastic history, yearbooks is a standard part of this process. They apparently failed.
  9. @marceline has gotten me to take a closer look at Sherrod Brown over the past several months. His own record surpasses any of the baloney populism Sanders and Trump spew. And he also seems to be a SJW himself. It's disappointing to see people attacking him for this statement about democrats out of touch with the "working class" but I think the Sanders pandering to that has skewed a lot of perception about whether this is a dog whistle. Well plus the fact that neither Sanders or Trump has any kind of prior experience in working or dealing with real social justice issues.
  10. Doubtful. Foxconn was the icing on the cake for Walker and the taxpayer giveaway of billions was what ended up costing Walker the election. Will the GOP spin it of course. I don't think folks in Wisconsin will buy it other than those that never really cared anyway. But this was also round 2 for Foxconn I believe. Didn't they pull out of a "great" deal in Pennsylvania too?
  11. I still believe the dirt that the Russians have is financial. Remember he could not get a loan from a US bank in 2011 so he went overseas. And money laundering.
  12. Apparently the short term CR has a few nuggets included Yes Paul Ryan allowed this to expire with no vote last year.
  13. Oh I totally agree with that sentiment.
  14. Meh Trump has never operated that way in his business life. I don't buy that there was some grand strategy around this. He's been trying to turn the public sentiment in his favor for weeks and it's gotten worse. First that Oval Office address, then the desperation to have a SOTU address. Since when has he been that tactical? No one should feel this is settled I agree, but sorry I don't buy Trump is playing 5 dimensional chess. And while I respect Sarah Kendzior, the US has been semi authoritarian since GWB and the stretch of executive power. This is a man who was using the wall as a way to remember to talk about immigration. I'd believe he settled this more due to trying to drive the news away from Roger Stone's arrest than some super strategic move. Heck Jared was on Capital Hill and based on stories believed he could work democrats on this issue. They had been leaking snippets for days on how there were democrats willing to work with them. And did that ever happen? I remember something from the Watergate days that Bob Woodward was alleged to have said. He told Bernstein to not overthink the strategy that was going on in the White House because the people involved were just not as smart as they thought they were. That included Nixon by the way.
  15. I don't know what Jonathon Chait has been doing this days but this is not the first article he's written where I have scratched my head. And I wish I could get one example of when Kuschner was right. Allegedly he helped get the criminal justice reform bill passed but I don't hear any republicans crowing about it. Maybe Jared thinks he earned some goodwill as a result who knows.
  16. Sorry I was not disputing that if it came across that way. There is a lot of baggage pre Obama. Obama did help rehabilitate Biden's image, but I hope people don't think it's just the extreme left that has issues with Biden. He lost primaries, Bill Clinton won them with his own set of baggage, and I don't think ideologically they were that far apart at the time.
  17. The social media aspect is important. I was at an event some months back Jason Kander spoke at and as he had been traveling a lot, he was asked about places he traveled to, particularly those that tend to swing towards the right. One woman in particular pointed to social media and he stopped her and told her most of the world does not live on social media. Social media is filled with political extremists from across the board but it's not a true reflection of the concerns of everyday people. Bidens issues by the way did not start with social media and the hyper sensitivity of the left. He has had issues for years. He has never won a primary solo for a reason. And for me I will forever remember and associate him with Anita Hill. Does it mean I would not vote for him as the democrat? No but he certainly is not anywhere near the top of my list.
  18. I think Biden is being tone deaf. Biden ran for president 3 times and in not one of these times did he ever win a primary and he is always filled with gaffes. Obama salvaged his image with a lot of people IMO. I came to tolerate him and even respected the relationship that he had with Obama. But we are not in the same place we were during the times when Biden was in the senate and had an opposing functional party to work with. The GOP needs to burn down and its time for politicians to stop pretending it's salvageable. And Upton was one of the leading crafters of the new so called HC plan that would have cut the ACA and pre-existing conditions. I don't think Biden had any bad intentions and it was not a campaign event, but the optics are not good. And like it or not it will get scrutinized. He doesn't have Obama to shield him anymore and he's now in the spotlight.
  19. There are a ton of stories about Covington out on twitter. It's awful and lord knows they are no where near alone
  20. Churchill who was not exactly a role model for fairness during his lifetime in his advocacy of colonialism, said “Democracy is the worst form of government - except that is for all of the others” You also need leaders Who care enough to foster those values that makes it work. Plus you can’t have one political party who doesn’t give a crap about anything other than retaining power at all costs.
  21. Frankly it's ridiculous regardless of security concerns. Deliver a state of the union when the gvmt is not even functioning at full capacity? When employees including those who supposedly "protect" us like Border Patrol and TSA are forced to be on the job and not being paid. And lord who exactly wants Air Traffic controllers disgruntled. That job in particular is one of the most stressful jobs period. Pelosi is a real strategist. Take note the only people that have stood up to the so called President who is not a king by the way are women. All the white men cower and snivel to him and end up resigning anyway,
  22. Does anyone give a crap what Lieberman thinks anymore? Not that I ever did. he was the one that sunk the public option under the ACA so he can shove it. He also escorted Kavanaugh through his confirmation process. All these old white MALE fossils I wish sometimes would just die off.
  23. There are still cases pending in court that were brought up during Bush2's presidency regarding property seizure for fencing. Same damn thing.
  24. AMEN!! I am also loving Ocasio-Cortez right now. She's got their attention and like the Parkland students, they can't win the game on twitter. And frankly they have all looked ridiculous for example in going after her for dancing. I may not agree with her on certain things, but she knows how to play the social media game and her interview on 60 minutes with Cooper - well Cooper looked like the idiot. She's learning. Maybe partially from Pelosi.
  25. They're all airing this racist political stunt.
