  1. John McCain made an awful joke about Chelsea when she was a CHILD at a fundraising event during Clinton's presidency. It was also wrapped in ugly homophobia. "Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father" Some can say whatever they want without blowback from the press. And then you have the leftist idiots on twitter who know nothing about the 1990's other than listening to the extreme left tell them how everything is the Clinton's fault. The worst part of all of this is that it take attention away from where it should be which is on the massacre and especially the innocent victims. This is a great thread.
  2. Neither are good options. I am wondering if this end is what the Brexit folks (not the voters but those pushing the referenda) wanted. No real solution and chaos,, knowing the information they insisted would happen like more money invested in the NHS was a load of BS and has now been exposed. The UK is divided for some of the same issues that were spun here. I think Theresa May is awful but she has tried in an impossible situation and has downplayed the idea of another referendum. And in a way she's right. These people get elected to do what they are being asked to do, Rather than cowtow to extremists, work together to solve the problem. Both parties in their own ways have completely failed the UK and are also being blown apart in the process. I don't understand what the purpose is of extending the date. If no one is going to budge it's pointless.
  3. Hey thanks for posting that. He's incredible. I have tuned out of CNN for the most part but had to watch tonight. He's my second donation. following Kamala Harris.
  4. This is Eisenhowers farewell address. Watch this and his warnings surrounding the military industrial complex. A prophet.
  5. So much for our humanitarian effort in Venezuela. Can we finally just admit we don't care about sovereignty unless it's us. What a disaster. And I am sure this surprises no one. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/10/world/americas/venezuela-aid-fire-video.html?fbclid=IwAR14uGESSenW5u7Pm1m3yDM2uOot2qxyMLZzEU0Wig880Fs9R3SYM0P9WHU
  6. Someone should sent this to Michael Smerconish who was using the so called "unfair persecution of Kraft for hiring a hooker(ignoring the trafficking aspect of it)" to get on his soapbox about legalizing prostitution. He was lambasted on twitter, but he never apologized or backed down on this dumb false narrative he tried to drive. Why on earth anyone has Starr on boggles my mind. He gets fired from Baylor for covering up the sexual assault scandal, yet can still get gigs. But this was almost worth it. I was laughing thanks for sharing.
  7. I hear that, regardless it's disgusting if you ask me. White collar swampland justice and justice for everyone else. It's a prime example of the imbalance in our criminal justice system. I'm reminded of Elliott Abrams and his involvement in Iran-Contra and how he ended up being allowed to plea for lying to congress, after his involvement in the El Mozote massacre - he should have gone to prison for the rest of his life. He's now the lead official on the Venezuelan "humanitarian effort" translation regime change - program. And all the pardons William Barr our current AG, encouraged GHWB to sign for the Contra crooks as Bush was leaving office including Casper Weinberger.
  8. I apologize and acknowledge I was wrong about Yair. I was reading through some tweets between he and Mehdi and did not go back further to look at past writings. And honestly that article equating King to Omar set me off. I'll just say I don't know if Omar is a bigot but if I apply the same standard to her as I apply to Jim Jordan or Meadows from the GOP who I do believe are bigots, than the answer would be yes. Tribalism I guess - I let my own allegiances shape how I saw her versus these others. That was wrong. And I'll admit to having a ton of animosity still for anyone who participated in any way or to staying silent, including the media, for not quickly condemning and squashing the birther lie. I think the question I have is AIPAC as an advocate for Israel, are they advocating on behalf of Israel or the current government. Maybe the 2 cannot be separated. But is it ok to oppose Netanyahu's leadership and government and not being considered anti-Semitic? Part of the problem is we the US have allowed this to fester for years with no real solution, probably a good reason as to why AIPAC exists, because of our own ambivalence. I do have an issue pushing legislation to make it criminal to boycott Israel . And I hope no one considers it anti Semitic to believe this to be wrong. We can boycott Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, even our own states in this country, but what is the purpose of making it illegal to boycott Israel? And this is legislation AIPAC has been advocating for. So I do apologize that I allowed my own incorrect biases to influence here. And I certainly don't want to be seen as far left. That's definitely a toxic label. And this will be my last comment on this issue.
  9. I really don't want Biden but Id be ok with Biden/Harris. But I think a steady calming influence might be what.s needed. Im just afraid with Biden it would be SSDD. This country has so many institutional problems that were broken long before Trump. Biden doesn't seem like anyone interested in reform more like going back to the same.
  10. Thanks for sharing @marceline. Im not surprised about Biden, the rigging comments, or how they don’t care about Harris’s so called “bad” criminal justice record. . Smart women. i don’t want Biden but I get their points especially with another 2 years of Trump still to come.
  11. Ok Ilikely agree with you on part of this regarding Omar but there have been plenty of folks of Jewish faith Yair Rosenberg for one who’s crticized her tweets but have indicated she is correct about AIPAC and the Saudi lobbying groups she mentioned. I just can’t get outraged when the same folks turn away with the anti Semitic , islamaphobic, and racist “trope” peddled by those who are now waving their finger at her or the Jim Jordan’s and Mark Meadows of the world who live in this stuff daily. The comparison to King is nonsense frankly as King has sat in congress under both democratic and republican control for years and they did nothing .until this year about him. As far as Corbyn, I find it really diffiicult to find any news source that says anything positive about him anywhere that doesn’t also justify May, the Torres, and their own support for Victor Orban in Hungary and Duda in Poland, so it’s always hard for me to judge what’s fact or propaganda in the UK. That all said there is no question anti Semitism is on the rise all over and definitely in Europe. The Yellow Vest movement in France had cases of personal attacks and Jewish cemeteries desecrated . And I am not justifying Corbyn or Labor for that matter, Labor PMs left the party partially due to this issue a couple of weeks back, but there is a huge media bias in the UK worse than here, that frankly doesn't even touch on the abuses the Tories have perpetrated and how they cozy up to the likes of Orban and Duda. And UKIP is a whole other story.
  12. This is one of the most ridiculous hit pieces I have read recently. I was kind of hoping Rep Omar would kind of step back after some mis-steps but all this is now showing me who the real bigots are. I am not an Intercept fan(Greenwald is a crybaby propagandist) but I do love Mehdi Hasan who by the way did criticize Omar's tweets originally, has criticized Corbyn for his missteps, but vehemently opposes the idea that either are anti Semitic. I think this column nails it. https://theintercept.com/2019/03/05/republicans-and-democrats-say-their-criticism-of-ilhan-omar-is-about-anti-semitism-theyre-gaslighting-you/
  13. Finally. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/israel-prime-minister-benjamin-netanyahu-indicted-bribe-fraud-charges-n977571?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma
  14. There isn't any factual basis in this article it's a bunch of what if's. And frankly not a surprise for Politico but I am tired to death of all these "right leaning" publications telling Democrats what we need to do. Let them go take care of their own house. They lose in record numbers in 2018, gain just 2 senate seats in the best senate map they have had in 100 years, and of course it's the democrats. I'll be the first to complain if democrats start making assumptions about voting bases, but I;ve seen the work people in my own state did this past election winning red seats all over the state, so Politico can take a hike.
  15. All this stuff is getting exposed now. Although I am not surprised, the extent of the corruption so entrenched in our institutions is frankly horrifying. Trump's blatant disregard has exposed the hypocrisy. He's the poster child for all of it. It's ingrained in our institutions, our media, and our so called free market.
  16. The joke here is they are being offered prime real estate in Chicago. At least with the Obama Library which there was a huge fight over, the 2 locations in Chicago are in areas that can actually benefit from having it there. As a resident of the area, I would have been less cynical about the Amazon deal here if they were being encouraged to go into areas that could also benefit from having their HQ location there, not a prime downtown location. By the way same thing happened in NYC which is one reason residents were so upset. https://patch.com/new-york/new-york-city/parts-amazon-talks-were-kept-secret-under-non-disclosure-deal
  17. Now my hometown Chicago is reaching out again after Amazon's phony nationwide yearlong tour to find it's 2nd HQ, when they already knew they wanted to be in NYC. And the deal here was unknown since apparently the mayor of Chicago and Governor at the time had to sign NDA's. Seriously they use taxpayer money and they are legally bound not to tell the public how much.
  18. Amen. I don't agree with all of your posts about the media but this one is so blatant by the media its sickening. Trying to make it about how Trump is a fighter versus a colossal failure. I have zero use for Ann Coulter but at least she knows enough about the constitution and the National Emergencies Act to know this is all show. And to the poster who claimed Trump is so picked on, read up on the NE Act. It was tightened up after Nixon when they were actually concerned after the fact about executive overreach. Trump makes what Nixon did look like kindergarten. A National Emergency that requires funding but doesn't have time to work with congress to appropriate the funds is legal. Using it because congress denies you the funds is no longer legal. And if it was such an emergency, he had 2 years to work with an all GOP congress to get the money or how about he get it from where he promised it was coming from - MEXICO. In the words of 45, "I didn't need to do this but I wanted to do it much faster" That really makes the case for an EMERGENCY.
  19. Ditto. I'm glad I've been following him more closely over the past several months. And this is something that was proposed as part of healthcare reform when the ACA was being architected and refined. I'm assuming he''s going to run. It going to be really hard to decide between he, Harris, Booker, and Warren - all I like. But I am so glad to see we have so many choices.
  20. Fewer black residents in Virginia want him gone than white residents. Maybe they are seeing the alternative, something those of us who are white I don't believe can comprehend. Northam should work on getting all those felons their voting rights back. He should get it on the ballot in November and let Virginians vote on it. It would likely pass as it did in Florida. That would be living up to what he has promised he was going to do.
  21. I so agree. In one of our congressional primary races here in Illinois, Dan Lupinski a blue dog democrat was up against progressive Marie Newman. I canvassed for her because I've never liked Lupinski and they way he got his job the first time was a coronation not an election, by the Illinois machine. As Newman was gaining endorsements from teachers unions, the SEIU, Lupinski was security police union support, machine endorsements, and trade union support. What put him over the edge was the trade union support. When we talk about union solidarity, don't always believe it. The Trades look down on the likes of SEIU because they look down on the workers and work they do. And look at who traditionally held a lot of the service jobs and who in many cases were locked out of trade jobs and unions for a long time.
  22. You know how sloppy reporting is on The New Green Deal when I have already read several reporters saying "The senate will never pass this nor will the president even sign this" It's not a bill it's a simple resolution. These folks need to read up on that and what that actually means. Its not intended to be legislation that will be voted on as a normal piece of legislation would. It's aspirational. And folks pointing to AOC as the author and all encompassing goddess on this also neglect the fact that Jeff Merkley signed onto this and he certainly understands the legislative process, coalition building, uhm how a bill becomes a law. I'm not sold on everything in it or it's targets but it's a starting point. I like the fact that they are actually putting things on paper and hopefully starting the process to get people to believe the good things government can do. And I like its bold. We have people like Sherrod Brown who IMO is talking about healthcare solutions in a pragmatic way and that's needed too. And listen to this interview with AOC yesterday. I started out not liking her but she's learning. And she's not getting baited into hating on Pelosi or the situation happening in Virginia. Its interesting that she and Sherrod Brown are the 2 people I have seen now make Chuck Todd look like a clown. With 2 different approaches that are effective.
  23. I was just going to post this @Faulkner thanks. This is SHOCKING. And yeah a HUGE HUGE change there is coming. It's actually a good development. This will be a case where the monarchy, who are still revered in Thailand and carry power, can help unify the country. It will be interesting to watch.
  24. Speaking of Virginia "GOP state senator in Va. oversaw yearbook with racial slurs, blackface photos" https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/428975-gop-virginia-senator-oversaw-yearbook-with-racial-slurs-blackface-photos
  25. Knowing McCain over the years and hearing how ignorant his daughter is on TV makes this the least surprising thing I have heard. The worst part of this is how superior she acts after the smear her husband went through at the hands of George W Bush in the 2000 campaign and their crying about that. Those who have claimed not to be racist- showing their colors. She hasn't apologized to the victims? Typical
