Oh it's good. I'm getting vintage soap with this show and Hanna & Candace are giving me that told soap trope that I miss, the ambitious social climbing daughter (Rachel & Erica) and the poor old mother (Ada & Mona). Katheryn is giving me Kay Chancellor/Phoebe Tyler too as the rich, bitter, and clueless wife.

I haven't like Sharon's return either. It was just all over the place and not well thought out. We can tell that Newman was so anxious to get Letitia Dean that she failed to do a good long term story projection. All of Sharon's stories have been half assed and not plotted all the way through. Her "engagement" to that man was too rushed. They rushed her romance with Jack. They didn't address the Dennis/Phil issue, which IMO should've been the thing to bring Sharon back to Walford. They should've had Ben send Sharon a tape (like he did Denise), thus causing her to coming to town in a blaze of fury. This drug addiction story is abysmal. I seriously thought that Sharon's return would be to solidify her in the spot of central matriarch, to fill the void that Pauline, Peggy, and Pat left behind. I agree that Shona does well when given material but I'm over the antics of the town mattress aka Whitney. All her stories are the same to me. And even though I don't think that Tony Discipline is the best actor, they should've played to his strengths if they were going to keep him this long--play on him being a heartthrob. Make the character a sleaze and have him bounce between Lucy, Whit, and Lauren. Instead, they've brought in Joey, who I felt could've had potential, to basically make Tyler pointless. They're basically the same the character except one likes his drunken cousin (and don't get me started on that incest mess b/c I hate that pairing altogether) and the other one likes door knob--everyone gets a turn. Only thing appeasing to me at the moment is Ian & Denise and their romance. I just hope that they don't ruin that because I feel like Denise needs to become a central matriarch eventually too.

I agree, All My Shadows. I think that Fatboy can be a fun (and valuable) asset but not nowadays. His romance with Poppy is dull as h*ll. I've always said that they should've brought a feisty vixen on the show to swoop him off his feet and usher him into manhood. I think my issue with Fatboy is that he still acts like a teenager. He needs a real woman. Poppy ain't cutting it. But I want Tyler Moon gone more than anyone. Him and Whitney can exit stage left. Whitney is played out and Tyler never brought nothing to show IMO. They domesticated him to fast when they should've molded him into a loveable lothario for the young female characters. I've always said that the wrong younger Moon brother was kept. Anthony (IMO) was the better one and had great potential, which he showed in final weeks on the show with Alice.

Oh me too. I like how those girls were unphased by Traci when she took her shoes off. I loved it when that one girl kept asking Traci if she had a degree. If I'm not mistaken, that was also the one that corrected Traci real quick when she tried to call her "ho" on the sly. While Drew is sleazy, he's smart. Beautiful women selling a man sneakers is good for profit. Especially is she's knowledgeable about the product. If I was Traci, I could careless who worked in the store as long as Drew ran me my paper every pay period.

EE's problem for me is that there is too much dead weight on this show. I'm fine with UK soaps having huge cast b/c it gives that communal feel, which I wish that US soaps would adapt again, but they don't have the money to do so; however, many of these characters can go, so they can usher in newer, more vibrant families. Shirley can go. Even though I loved Linda Henry last year and felt she carried the show for the most part, I feel that Shirley has done all that she can do under Lorraine Newman. They didn't (or haven't) had Shirley bust up Phil's world like she should've (especially with the fact that he knew certain details about Dennis' death), and all they have her doing is working in some crap chicken restaurant. Mo can go. The entire Masood clan (IMO, when Zaniab & Syed left, they all should've followed). Kat & Alfie can leave again. Tyler REALLY needs to go as he's the biggest deadweight on the show. Whitney can exit stage left too. Joey, though sexy, can go too, and take his kissing cousin Lauren too. Hell, the entire Branning clan can go with the exception of Dot, Abby, and Alice, who is gradually growing on me. I like Fatboy but him and Poppy can go too. I want the EE back that I fell in love with back in 2002. The gritty, scandalous, exciting soap that it used to be. Now I feel that it's suffering from the same problem that American soaps suffer from, a loss of their identity.

But it's true! I mean what grown a** man or person in general does not know that the "pull out" rule is a myth. Him implying that just shows how stupid he is. He was stupid before but he's really stupid now. And Rasheeda wonders why her career is and will always be in dumps . . . you have an invalid running your ship. Furthermore, Kirk is gay. You weren't alone. I like Cynthia too from jump. She's a classic beauty, so of course she doesn't need to say anything. And I've always said/felt that her personality isn't as over powering/domineering as the other ladies, which is a good thing IRL. That doesn't mean she's spineless. I feel like these shows need one sane (or boring to other people) person on the cast to balance out the crazy b/c everyone on these shows nowadays are trying to be the crazy/boss b*tch one in hopes of reaching Nene, Teresa, or Kenya status.

Did you notice too how Kari was quick to toss Toya under the bus about three times in one sentence? But Toya is willing to lay on the cross for her massa boss lady! SMH. . . .

Kirk . . . yeah I can believe that he wouldn't know about about the idea of pre-cum and that it can get people pregnant too. I guess he's been pounding behinds (or vice versa) so much that he wouldn't realize that. And for Kirk to just blame Rasheeda getting pregnant deserves to result in a divorce. That statement alone would make me toss his bum a** OUT if I was her. Traci is too extra for me. Did she really think that she could take then girls on? She better not sleep on them "video hoes" b/c those hoes might be the ones to TKO that a**. Mimi is so clueless. She has two friends with gaydar (as Ariane and K have both openly admitted to being with women at one point in their lives) and she's still clueless. They then have friends in A that've told her that ole' dude was gay but she still doesn't get it. Johnny is gay and I believe Nikko is too. Mimi's blind a** is going to walk away with egg on her face once again. I wanna love Shay b/c she was one of my faves on FOL but begging/stalking a man is not cute. Distance yourself from that clan before you sucked into that vortex of suck and can't get out.

Mariah & Quad at this reunion were EVERYTHING. IDC what y'all have to say, I love them.

^ Not that I recall. The show had some looney stories towards the end (i.e. the Lumina mess ) but I don't think they got that looney.

^ So it can be said that during Cecile's last run, she was written out of character? B/c I've seen old clips of Cecile and to me, they don't match up to the last run of Cecile, which I got to see in real time. I mean she's still a schemer but she wasn't as vicious in the past as she was when JFP was at helm. Also, would the Maggie/Cass paternity thing considered a retcon? Going off from what I've collected, was Cecile and Cass even courting then? Didn't Cass debut around the time Cecile was already embarking on the custody battle with Sandy?

Khan, CarlD2, and any other long time viewer too: Seeing as you two watched the show longer than I did, and you guys brought up the friendship of Wallingford/Cecile/Cass/Felicia--how did you guys feel about Cecile's return the last time in '96 (I think)? Do you think that they did the character justice or do more harm than good? B/c I've been reading/hearing people express their opinion on this in the past and it's a polarizing topic. Some people were fine with her return while others felt that it was OOC for Cecile, and didn't care for the entire Cecile/Maggie trust fund saga.

See all this talk about RHONYC S3 makes me want to rewatch the madness again. That season ranks in my top three favorite seasons of a Housewives show--Season Four (yes, people) being #1 b/c of the Africa trip & Marlo and this past season of RHOBH.

I think what separated Another World from many other soaps was that it was rooted in normalcy. As aforementioned, they rarely had sensationalized, over-the-top stories. If they did, they typically didn't translate well on this show like they did on other soaps. To me, Another World also had a strong cast, which translated well on TV and their characters relationships. As we were saying in the status area of SON, the bonds on AW were stronger and more important than anything. Furthermore, this show just felt like home. Even when they got ritzy, the show still felt like home--not to farfetched; I could've been part of this community, I could've known these people.
