  1. Jacquie Courtney was on OLTL for years with no mention of difficult to work with (of course there was the matter of sleeping with the boss...) The shakeup at Days is fascinating in the choices made. By writing in all the new characters in a matter of days and then pretty much pivoting the story towards them seems a recipe for disaster. Really Kellam and his assistant Max should have been introduced and left the audience wondering what their motives might be. Have them connect with various characters over the course of a few weeks. then bring in either Tod or Liz. If Donna had have stayed around she could have met Tod and the audience wouldn't know for a while that he was Kellam's son. Slowly bring on the newbies while keeping known characters front burner. Maybe some exits should have been delayed eg Bill and Laura so they get a proper goodbye. Perhaps Jordan could have been revealed to have a connection to the Chandlers. He'd been around for a while and not much was known about his background and audiences might have been more interested than atotal newbie like Joshua. The other puzzling thing to me was making Kellam and Max roughly the same age and therefore adding two more over 40 characters. Why not have Max be a hotshot younger guy? Same with Joshua- Stephen Brooks was 38 - why not make Josh 28? Liz could have been younger also. Days needed younger characters at that point, especially that Laemmle ignored Mike and David pretty much

  5. Kings Crossing debuted on a night when NBC had one of the lowest rating nights in recent network history at that time. But it was CBS that took advantage airing Disney 'Tales of the Apple Dumpling Gang' at 8 and ranking 10th for the week (23.6/37) And its movie 'Help Wanted Male' ranked 3rd (28.6/47) NBC aired 2 specials Alice at the Palace (with Meryl Streep) 5.2/8 ranking 69th and 'Caruso Remembered' 3.3/5 70th and lowest ranked for the week. In the middle was the 90 min Kings Crossing premiere on ABC 17.1/27 and a 90 min Fantasy Island rpt 16.3/27 So not a bad sampling but viewers were not interested and the ratings fell each week. ABC had a history of poor performance in that timeslot despite Love Boat and Fantasy Island dominating the 9 and 10pm timeslots. They had better luck with Kings Crossings replacement TJ Hooker.

  13. That was such a bland opening. I agree re the characters talking. But they weren't even consistent with that - Doran Clark wasn't gabbing.. Marilyn Jones...butch much?
  14. I get that for various reasons, certain Horton family members might need to be offscreen but TPTB should have taken the time to keep them alive in viewers memories, either as a reminder should they return or just to keep long term viewers happy. John Lupton seemed happy enough to return so why not some Xmas visits or have him around when Sandy finally returned. Same with Lisa Trusel. When Marie leaves in 85 have her visit Jessica who has just given birth. Doug and Julie return from their cruises saying they had a fabulous time with Robert and Dougie or met up with David. Just a few mentions or visits.

  18. I get what you are saying and agree that sometimes longer scenes are necessary to dig deeper into character and motivation. However, sometimes those longer scenes were underwritten and a throwback to the live/live on tape days when scenes had to be a certain length regardless. Once VCRs were available the temptation to fast forward took hold. Nowadays scenes are often of the blink and miss 'em category which is quite annoying. I think a balance between the two is ideal.
  19. To Have and To Hold from Ruth Brooks Flippen and John Haggert. No date or details available.
  20. If that clip is any indication, one reason for Days doldrums is those overlong scenes. By now GH was now using editing for shorter scenes, giving the illusion of more pace while Days would have seemed draggy in comparison. When did other shows begin to follow GH's lead and begin tape editing?
  21. Bob dying could have been the spearhead for new drama for the Andersons with Stephanies identity revealed, and battles b/w her and Mary. Add Linda,Alex and Chris into the mix and possibilities are endless. The Sam kidney story got a Daytime Emmy award for Hugh McPhillllips as Hugh Pearson in the guest performance category, beating out (amongst others) Joan Fontaine and Sammy Davis Jnr.

  23. I think Sam was brought back just as a complication for the Craigs in their newly married phase. Andrea Hall was only ever recurring and did short stints. The whole kidney transplant thing keeps getting played but goes nowhere. Harrower only has a short time left so just about everything gets modified or tossed aside.
