  1. Greg Sumner intro in season 5 as the new villain was the finishing touch on Knots Landing going full-on 1980s primetime soap. William Devane had a commanding presence from his first episode, but I don't think he took over the show.
  2. DEATH BY DEMOGRAPHICS IS `MURDER' MOST CRUEL That episode totally shaded CBS. Considering how CBS treated Angela Lansbury after all she did for CBS primetime, I don't blame her for reacting the way she did.
  3. Wow, Y&R series premiere 😍 @JAS0N47 Thanks again for all your hard work in bringing this part of daytime history to us.
  4. Hahaha, and I don't follow Atlanta. I won't post the song here as this is a family friendly board
  5. Annie psycho turn late 1996-early 1998 might have been one of the few bright spots in the final 15 years. It lead to Cynthia Watros pulling off the biggest upset in Daytime Emmy history, in that rookie beats four 15+ year veterans.
  6. Many have said that GL hit its nadir in 1996. From what I've seen of 1996 ratings, they bottom out during the summer and early fall, and Another World even finished ahead of GL some weeks. GL was in cancel territory and it looked like B&B was preparing to expand to 1 hour to line up with the 10th anniversary in March 1997 but as we all know that didn't happen.
  7. Thanks @GymnastGuy for posting this Summer 1986 promo for all four shows. So few Summer 1986 promos have surfaced.
  8. January 1974 Y&R Jeanne Cooper debut.
  9. Jill's descent into madness is one of the storylines that made Knots Landing go off the rails in the aftermath of Laura departure. The other two were Charles Scott and Johnny Rourke.
  10. You're welcome @Paul Raven. There was also the CBS schedule change of February 4, 1980, when an expanded Y&R moved from noon ET to 1 pm ET, and the local programming half hour moved from 1 pm ET to noon ET.
  11. Search for Tomorrow CBS run and Ryan's Hope were time slot rivals December 27, 1976-June 5, 1981. From the 1970s Ratings and 1980s Ratings threads, these were the weeks from December 27, 1976-June 5, 1981 that Search for Tomorrow finished ahead of Ryan's Hope: December 27-31, 1976 January 3-7, 10-14, 17-21, 24-28, 31-February 4, 7-11, 14-18, 21-25, 28-March 4, 7-11, 14-18, 21-25, 28-April 1, 4-8, 11-15, 1977 April 18-22, 1977 ratings not found April 25-29, 1977 May 2-6, 9-13, 16-20, 23-27, 30-June 3, 6-10, 13-17, 1977 June 20-24, 1977 ratings not found June 27-July 1, 4-8, 11-15, 18-22, 1977 August 1-5, 8-12, 15-19, 1977 August 22-26, 1977 ratings not found August 29-September 2, 5-9, 12-16, 19-23, 26-30, 1977 October 3-7, 10-14, 17-21, 24-28, 31-November 4, 7-11, 1977 November 21-25, 28-December 2, 5-9, 12-16, 1977 December 19-23, 1977 ratings not found December 26-30, 1977 January 2-6, 1978 January 16-20, 1978 February 6-10, 13-17, 20-24, 1978 March 13-17, 1978 March 20-24, 1978 ratings not found March 27-31, 1978 April 3-7, 10-14, 17-21, 1978 April 24-28, 1978 ratings not found May 22-26, 1978 June 26-30, 1978 ratings not found July 17-21, 1978 August 7-11, 1978 August 28-September 1, 1978 ratings not found September 25-29, 1978 October 2-6, 1978 October 16-20, 1978 October 30-November 3, 1978 December 18-22, 1978 December 25-29, 1978 ratings not found January 1-5, 8-12, 15-19, 22-26, 29-February 2, 1979 February 12-16, 19-23, 26-March 2, 5-9, 12-16, 19-23, 26-30, 1979 April 2-6, 9-13, 16-20, 23-27, 30-May 4, 7-11, 14-18, 21-25, 28-June 1, 4-8, 11-15, 18-22, 25-29, 1979 July 2-6, 9-13, 16-20, 23-27, 30-August 3, 6-10, 13-17, 20-24, 27-31, 1979 September 3-7, 10-14, 17-21, 24-28, 1979 October 1-5, 8-12, 15-19, 1979 October 29-November 2, 5-9, 12-16, 19-23, 26-30, 1979 December 3-7, 10-14, 17-21, 24-28, 1979 December 31, 1979-January 4, 1980 January 7-11, 14-18, 21-25, 28-February 1, 4-8, 1980 February 18-22, 25-29, 1980 March 3-7, 1980 March 24-28, 1980 May 5-9, 1980 May 26-30, 1980 June 2-6, 9-13, 16-20, 1980 August 11-15, 1980 September 22-26, 1980 October 6-10, 1980 November 17-21, 1980 December 15-19, 1980 March 9-13, 1981 March 30-April 3, 6-10, 13-17, 1981
  12. Even though I wasn't watching GL in real time by then, I was happy that MZ got his long-awaited for Lead Actor Emmy. MZ deserved more wins than the one he got. He wasn't nominated in 1991 but should have been and I think he could have won that year, and I also think he should have won in 1992.
  13. That's right, Kim Zimmer was pregnant with Jake Weary when Reva was pregnant with Shayne. I don't think I've seen a photo of Mr. Weary, but from what I can tell Jake looks so much like his mother.
  14. I won't be. We all know that the shelf life of a villainess isn't very long. Trisha Mann-Grant is the breakout star of BtG and she is destined for bigger and better things.
  15. I feel CBS/P&G got really shaken by 1978-1982 ABC huge rise and domination, thus the changes to the shows. Considering Capitol showed no growth, I wonder if CBS ever regretting cancelling Search for Tomorrow. From the 1980s Ratings thread, Capitol pretty much inherited Search for Tomorrow audience but Capitol ratings were impacted when One Life to Live rebounded in 1985 with Andrea Evans return. Remember Capitol was head-to-head with the second half of One Life to Live. Even if CBS kept Search for Tomorrow, I think it would've ended as soon as Bill Bell had a second show ready. Funny thing is Search for Tomorrow NBC run was only three months shorter that Capitol run.
  16. I feel Audra pretty much replaced Imani.
  17. I watched every Daytime Emmy broadcast from 1985-2011 and 2020 onward and the best years were 1985-1999.
  18. I wonder who Andre was thinking about when he was lying in his bed. Kat gives me feels of Y&R early Christel Khalil Lily, and her being a virgin is a throwback to the 1980s prized virgin heroine ie. Y&R Cricket, B&B Caroline, As the World Turns Lily.
  19. 1999, the last great Daytime Emmys.
  20. IIRC Storm was a nickname given to Stephen Logan Jr. as he had a stormy temper. Much like William Foster Jr. was given the nickname Snapper for snapping at everyone. I remember an interview with either Bill Bell or Bradley where it was mentioned Bill Bell got the name Ridge from a college classmate of Bradley's. Bradley even said that his classmate tells everyone "I'm the real Ridge". I don't where Bill Bell got Thorne from.
  21. There was also nepo babies Ethan Wayne and Carrie Mitchum.
  22. He refuses to have a dad bod.
  23. Is JM making the booty pop too? BtG has all the males shook.
  24. 40 years ago this week.
