  1. @Soapsuds Capitol was a time filler/placeholder until Bill Bell had a second show ready.
  2. Big changes coming up on CBS: Y&R EP change from John Conboy to H. Wesley Kenney, Search for Tomorrow ends, Capitol premieres.
  3. I still watch Y&R and will probably stay until the end, even though I consider 2006 onward to be not classic.
  4. No. Their pairing was so random. Probably not. Another random pairing.
  5. It will always be a crime that Beverlee McKinsey never got a Lead Actress nomination for her work on GL. Beverlee could have easily won at least one of 1991, 1992, 1993 as the Lead Actress races in those years I thought were rather weak.
  6. Also Jason Thompson has played Billy the longest (7 years).
  7. I have no idea. Maybe someone who was following in real time would have better insights.
  8. It's amazing that GL was able to hold its own against General Hospital when that show was at it's peak as a pop culture phenomenon. From what I've seen of the Allen Potter/Douglas Marland era, the main storylines that I'd say impacted GL right until the end were Roger's fall off the cliff in Santo Domingo, Alan/Hope marriage, intros of Chamberlain, Lewis, Reardon families.
  9. Primetime soap reruns were probably more successful on cable. I didn't know Falcon Crest was rerun on Lifetime. Was it in the 1990s? The Soapnet reruns were early 2000s and AFAIK the whole series was not seen again until FreeVee last year.
  10. We can add members of the Abbott family to the list. John: Dina, Jill, Jessica, Jill, Gloria Jack: Patty, Nikki, Luan, Phyllis, Sharon, Nikki, Phyllis, Diane Ashley: Steven, Victor, Blade, Cole, Brad, Victor, Tucker, Tucker Traci: Danny, Brad, Brad, Steve
  11. If the new Bell show was at 1:30/12:30 it would be in direct competition w/ Reilly's Days and no way CBS and the Bells are having that. Also by 1997 GL was not airing at 3/2 in many major media markets so I don't think the Bells would want B&B subjected to the same fate. Maybe some 1992-1997 articles from soap magazines have info about Coming of Age, but I don't remember reading about the story bible.
  12. Fall 1986 was not good timing to start reruns. I haven't seen anything to confirm this, but I doubt primetime soap reruns on network affiliates were beating Oprah.
  13. Y&R Victor and Nikki Christmas at the ranch where we first learned the backstory of Victor's childhood. Y&R Victor and Nikki New Year at the ranch that we've seen in flashbacks numerous times over the years. 1982 had Y&R big cast change, Search for Tomorrow CBS run comes to an end, GL Douglas Marland leaves as HW. There's going to be lots of movement in the ratings this year.
  14. Janet two best slow jams
  15. Victor: Julia, Nikki, Leanna (not legal), Ashley, Hope, Diane, Nikki (not legal), Nikki, Sabrina, Ashley, Meggie (not legal), Diane, Sharon, Sharon, Nikki Nikki: Greg, Kevin, Tony (not legal), Victor, Jack, Josh, Victor (not legal), Victor, David, Deacon, Jack, Victor Am I missing any?
  16. Luke/Laura turned ABC into the rapemance network. Same s--- happened with One Life to Live Todd.
  17. Madonna two best ballads, released a decade apart.
  18. Dallas went off the rails in the aftermath of Pamela disappearance and was effectively over with Sue Ellen departure. 1987/88 to me feels like the natural end point of the show. The final three seasons were not needed and I feel they only happened because CBS was such a mess in primetime back then.
  19. We saw Y&R from November 2, 1981 during the classics. Nikki first visit to the Newman ranch.
  20. ABC had successful daytime and primetime runs overlapping in the early 1980s but the paths diverged by the middle of the decade. ABC was killing it in daytime in the early 1980s thanks to General Hospital massive rise in the late 1970s but started losing its dominance in the middle of the decade, and General Hospital was knocked out of #1 by the end of the decade. ABC primetime was doing well in the early 1980s, became a mess in the middle of the decade, and would rebound by the end of the decade.
  21. General Hospital became a pop culture phenomenon because of Luke/Laura and starting the whole action/adventure and supercouple crazes. Susan Lucci transcended soaps and became known in pop culture. Even people who never watched All My Children or soaps at all know who Susan Lucci is. It's quite fitting that she is the only Daytime Emmy acting winner whose win got a People cover story.
  22. Y&R Victor sees Nikki climbing the pole, which leads to the My Fair Lady storyline and the rest is history.
  23. Search for Tomorrow also seems forgotten despite a 30 year run on CBS.
  24. It was the combination of Roger's return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP that ushered in the early 1990s golden era. The best period was June 1989-July 1991 Robert Calhoun/Pamela Long/Nancy Curlee. July 1991-August 1992 JFP/Nancy Curlee is still good but it's coasting off the groundwork laid during the Robert Calhoun years. September-December 1992 is not bad, but the big cast departures of the summer (Kimberley Simms, Sherry Stringfield, Beverlee McKinsey) left a noticeable void in the canvas. Of course January 1993 Maureen's death changes the show forever. The whole period from the aftermath of Maureen's death until Nancy Curlee leaves the writing team in March 1994 was a chore to get through. At least Michael Zaslow got his long-awaited for Lead Actor Daytime Emmy during that period.
